Can't change sky

I have TS10 and can no longer change the sky. In Surveyor I can change the sky and the new sky is dispalyed in Surveyor. But when I go to Driver it reverts to the old sky. I have tried saving the new sky in both Sessions and Route layers but with no success. I previously could change the sky but can't anymore. Any ideas?

After selecting your new sky, try making a change to an assets in your route. You could add a tree for example, or simply rotate a piece of grass which is already there.

Save before you go into Driver. The new sky should then appear as required.

For some strange reason Trainz seems to need a change in at least one of the objects for sky changes to take effect. I don't know why it should need to be done, but the above fix should work.

Per your suggestion I changed the sky and added a tree, but still no luck when I went to Driver. This happens on any route that I try.

The sky might be affected by changes to the session rather than the route. Try changing layers and see if that makes the difference.

I found the same results when I tested it, I could not get the sky to change either.

You have to "save as" and choose "overwrite route". The sky options are saved in route asset.

I've just re-tried my workaround described in post #2.

All skies change for me with no problem.

The only thing I didn't mention was that I use Quickdrive (Ctrl F2 on my version) to get to Driver from Surveyor, not the Menu.

If you've not already done so, Quickdrive could be worth a try, but it's beginning to sound like a bug to me. Odd though, that there has been little or no complaint before now.

I've not had this problem either, but I too use the quick drive out of surveyor and my new sky's stay in the routes. Try it that way, could well be a small bug.
I bet most people use quick drive to test their new work after a session in surveyor, I know I always do.

@ Deano5 and Euphod

Good to hear that the workaround seems to work fine on various versions.

I reckon most users of Surveyor must use the Quickdrive option; possibly the reason for this problem not having been previously aired as a major issue.

Hopefully doker will be able to confirm the good news once he’s had a chance to test it (and thus be eligible for immediate honorary membership into the Guild of Quickdrivers).

PS I've not tried it with all of the World functions, but the same workaround also applies to fixing time changes to the World clock in Surveyor

Thanks, Casper. I tried your suggestion and it worked. Unless you make some change to the Route layer, the sky will not be changed in Driver. You need to see three screens when you save it.

1. Do you wish to save changes & start Driver?
2. Overwrite existing route and existing session?
3. Overwrite route XYZ?

If you don't change something in the Route layer, you won't see the 3rd screen and the changed sky won't be saved.

I do like a happy ending

Glad to have been of some help, though I think it was a combination of answers that solved the problem.

I know nothing about layers.

The principle of overwriting the Route and Session after any change of an object appears to be the key, whether it's done via Quickdrive or regular Save.

I've not tried your method of changing the water colour. I must try that one, although I guess that there is a risk of then having a water colour that's not wanted.

I'll probably stick to simply rotating a small object (usually a small grass tuft). As little as one degree of rotation is all that is required, so it has little impact on the scenery.

(Still in the stone-age!)
