Agreed. I have a feeling that some things cannot be dumbed down and still be expected to perform at the level everyone wants. That's like wanting to fly a high performance airplane but not wanting to learn how to do it by. Some thing just need to be learned, otherwise you're just a passenger. Trainz Driver comes to mindIf Trainz ever goes down the dumbed-down, lousy-graphics, unmoddable, freemium route that is the mobile gaming market, I'll stick with my "geeky" old versions of Trainz.
And I've spent less on new hardware in the last four years than many (if not the vast majority) of smartphone owners have during the same period of time.
can you guess which direction we are headed?
In five words Bill:
"Yes and No"
And just to use the other two words:![]()
Certainly the diversification into Android and 'i' operating systems has proved worthwhile by broadening the user base and bringing in some extra revenue. I'm making an educated guess that re-writing the old Jet Code into TANE engine code will have made such diversification easier (same code base ports to many platforms). I'm sure there are still good commercial reasons to continue on that path.
I bought one of the early 'full' versions of TS for Android but basically found it unusable on a 10" Samsung tablet for anything other than casual driving - but then, personally, I'm no fan of touch screens.
You have been around the Trainz scene for a long while now Bill and inevitably will have found your comfort zone in a pre TANE version (it's human nature) so why not just stick to that for your personal use ? Nobody is asking you to move to TANE - indeed I was very comfortable with content creation in TS12 and am now faced with new challenges in TANEbut I think the effort will be worth it for the improved visuals & performance in TANE.![]()
So, in summary and in 5 words:
"TANE plus variations equals happiness"
(Maybe)![]()

...as much as I am a Manchester United fan...
Ah, that explains it. Never mind I hear you can get a cream to sort the problem these days!
Cheers
Chris
Exactly ... Fix T:ANE to what was promised to Kickstrter backers, some of which invested several hundred dollars ... and they got a game that was half finished, and soon will be unsupported ... We all eventually want an SP2 for T:ANESnip~It would be nice to fix the problems with the last version before attempting to make a new version...like a SP2 would be more welcome than another epic fail version).
I think TS12 is still far better than this new T:ANE... and now you want to create yet another buggy version (why why why why why why...)
Trainz is getting to be like buying a lemon automobile: So you bought a Corvair, and it was a piece of junk, so you junked it ... and bought a Pinto, and it was a fire hazzard, so you junked it ... so you bought a Vega and it was another POP, unsafe for the road, so you junked it ... and bought a Gremlin, and it also was a huge POS ... now you are going to have to go out and buy another automobile that was put together with sticky tape, and Bondo
A version that helps me loose weight would be good.
Failing that can we please have reference material (wikis or something) that explains how things work/ how to do things in fairly simple language. I look things up only to find there's no information, or it's too obscure and I don't know where to go to try and understand. The manual and top level stuff is ok, but trying to go a bit deeper is difficult. I expect the info is there, but disorganised?
Thanks.
