The latest official version of each product is and always has been the only “supported” build. You need to patch to the latest version as there is a good chance the problem is already fixed.
if the problem is patching, then advise helpdesk of that since we obviously support the process of installing and updating any version.
If we fix nothing, people say we’ve abandoned the product. So we fix things, and update things. We do our best to make sure there are no showstopper issues in each new release, and I can assure you that the list of fixes far, far outweighs the list of new issues.
