I can see some parts of old and new Mayne there in that screenshot. 1950s looking it ain't. You need to do some serious research, for instance the Mayne Station was curved not straight, there was a turntable at Mayne in the steam era, Some of the storage tracks look more like they are modern era additions.

yeah i know there is something that will come to me later.

Hi Michael,

I am pretty sure I have mentioned the following in previous messages, here as well as on "Railpage" and "Wheels on Steel" forums, all of which I know you are a member as I have read your messages there thus you can use the search function for those forums, but in case others have missed it, I will repost.

As Ghosty mentioned above, there was a turntable at Mayne in the steam era. The Mayne sheds and turntable in 1950 were in the same place they were in 1946 and early 1960s. Aerial Photography of Brisbane in 1946 shows the sheds and turntable. Look for turntable east of far end of coal stage within the balloon loop. http://www.railpage.com.au/f-t11347745.htm

The above Railpage thread also mentions other rail items that may interest people modelling the Brisbane rail network from that era.

The Mayne sheds and turntable track arrangements, plus the track plans for the rest of Brisbane, are in the following ARHS Bulletins which are available on DVD from the ARHS Bookshop in Sydney. Very good value at $25 for a decade of magazines. http://www.arhsnsw.com.au/bookshop.htm

THE SUBURBAN RAILWAYS OF BRISBANE
Knowles, JW

This extensive article covers the entire Brisbane suburban system at the height of steam in the 1950s. Detailed track diagrams are provided for the suburban passenger lines from Brisbane to Ipswich, Shorncliffe, Petrie, Ferny Grove, Pinkenba, Exhibition Loop, and South Brisbane to Kingston and Lota, drawn by CC Singleton. The track and stations on all the above lines and to Beenleigh, Cleveland and Caboolture are described individually with details of operations. The goods lines (Bulimba branch, and Wooloongabba (with diagrams) and Redbank-Bundamba loop, Dinmore to New Chum Colliery, Tivoli branch, Abattoirs and SEA Powerhouse) are covered, also the 1435 mm gauge line south from South Brisbane briefly. Nothside and southside passenger and goods services are treated, with details of running times and speeds, carriage working, exhibition and other special services, plus locos, railmotors, comparison with Sydney electrics, competition and plans for quadruplication, and electrification.

35 photos, 3 maps, 107 diagrams. Article is continued in Bn 317 Mar 1964 pp 47-57, Bn 318 Apr 1964 pp 69-76, Bn 319 May 1964 pp 91-9, Bn 320 Jun 19614 pp 112-20, Bn 321 Jul 1964 pp 121-9, Bn 322 Aug 1964 pp 150-5, and Bn 323 Sep 1964 pp 166-75. Corrections appear in Bn 327 Jan 1965 pp 18-9.

The Ipswich line DEM was released by Jerker some time ago as noted at http://forum.victrainz.com.au/index.php and look for the DEM thread.

im just getting stuck when i try and make the ICE, i want to know how long the cab is and would it be better to build it by using boxes or use a cylinder for the main part of the body

Cheers,
Jake

PS there might be some screens coming from the ferny line on sunday

Messages from the milepost

Hi Everyone, Posting from school..trainz never sleeps:hehe:

I am currently begining to get stuck into the Ipswich Line, I have built as far to the Albert Bridge and down to Corinda with the four track arrangement. Its very fun, becuase I can race a BB18 with Green Evens against a D17 with SX Set 45. Fun hey? :p

Its a slowed progress becuase the SCL gets high prority becuase since it's QGR's premier route. Well track has been laid from Bethania to Beenleigh with all bridges and level crossings put in. I just have to do textures, once the track is laid, I will hand it over to someone to get the buildings put in and all the major textures entered in. Should get some screenshots over to the SCL Page, I have been turning out alot of PB15's, now I need some Evens Carriages + Southport Cars

Well, The QHRA Meeting a Bethania was awesome, I got to meet Andrew, if anyone can attend the next meeting where we are borrowing a Rail-Trike to travel down the Beaudesert line. I will post here whats the basic plan

Regards
Michael G

I have placed samples of the 1961 working timetable for the South Brisbane / Gabba / Beenleigh / Southport / Tweed Heads line over on the QGR South Coast line's pages. I scanned pages that show station height and distance data, for those who want correct station heights. It predates Trinder Park which opened in 1968. It also predates the 1980s changes around Holmview.

The present day main road over rail bridge just west of Wellington Point Station was built and in use just before the line's closure in 1960. It was reused when line rebuilt for the electric services. Unless it has been rebuilt in very recent years, it is the steam era bridge but modified for electric services.

I think you will find the alignment is basically the old steam era alignment, IIRC it was shortened a fraction as the original station was closer to the coast than its current location. Redlands Shire Council again IIRC kept the alignment in the hope that the line would one day be rebuilt. And i think Petan means that some features of the line date back to the steam era.

What I meant is that in the 1970s I used to drive over that bridge I mentioned and dream of trains returning. When the trains returned to Wellington Point in 1986 and Cleveland [former Raby Bay] in 1987, I made sure I drove over that same bridge with the trains in operation!

Image is the steam era Cleveland from my 1960 street map. Present day station was the previous Raby Bay station site. Paxton Street at the end of the line was the site of a long gone jetty.

The former Raby Bay Railway Station in the steam era shown below is now the present day Cleveland Railway Station. As the map numbers show, this is the adjoining map to the Cleveland one above.

Michael maybe you missed "Cricketstar's" reply back on November 12 as shown below

I contributed the 1960 maps of the Cleveland end of the Brisbane rail network because this is the general Brisbane route thread and thus someone may find them of use. For all we know there could well be some person reading this who is actually doing Brisbane in the steam or 1950s era and therefore could make use of the maps. I recall you, Michael, once mentioned that era but I forget what Brisbane area lines you mentioned you were doing as a steam era project.

Michael, maybe you missed Cricketstar's earlier reply as it may have been around school exam time for you. Anyway, school holidays about to start for many here, I assume.
