Bridgehampton Metro - UK Light Rail / Modern Tramway in Progress

Paulzmay, going through your latest pictures, I found this one: http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b124/paulzmay/BHM/paulzmay_20101119_0005.jpg

You do realise that one of those pylons (that questions stability) have cut right into a road underneath?

Have to agree about with who-ever-it-was about the the questionable nature of those plyons to hold up a structure.

One thing I have notice is that I don't know why, but I get the feeling that something is not-exactly right (not saying it's bad route).

With the Auran built in Concrete Block Rail seems a bit too cartoonish. Just wondering if their maybe something similar, but less cartoonish, but at the same time, easy on the frame rates/computer.

Edit: Paulzmay, not sure if the track called that starts with FGV Via BIBL OQUE MOD (various extra part of name) is versions before TS2010 or if will be harder on the frame rates, but it is similar to the builtin Concrete Block Rail track.

I might have to review those pylons - there's no reason why they couldn't work, but they would have to be very well reinforced, with very good foundations (and yes they would have to dig up 2 lanes of the motorway to sink the foundations). Steel would be a better material for those kinds of cantilever loads than concrete, perhaps with some lateral support to reduce sideways forces - I'll probably have to build them myself...

Concrete block rail is a bit of a bugbear - there is a beautiful one by Mike10, but as it's high poly and not mesh reducing (being very old), it's a serious performance hit. I'll look into the ones you suggest - I remember seeing them, and I can't remember if they are the style I was looking for.

Possible, but the long span is very inefficient. A pillar in the centre, combined with lateral struts (which only have to take small stabilising loads) would be the best way to do it. I'll have to have a closer look at the Dockland Light Railway and others for an appropriate comparison. That kind of American style of elevated railway isn't used anywhere in the UK, and isn't what I'd expect on new build. I'll have to design something for my new elevated kit...

Could I ask why you say that track is a bugbear?

If they are high poly (I'd presume that means similar to kilo/megabytes etc?) then it may be better to go for one that is easier on frame rates.

But I still say that builtin default Concrete Block rail is well way too cartoonish[/QUOTE]

Because anything with detail of individual sleepers, chairs etc will be too high poly to give decent frame rates, unless it's a mesh reducing track. There may be some lower poly tracks out there with decent texture detail, but I haven't found them yet, though I will try your suggestion.

Also How Did You Get The Class 456 Connex South East 2 Car Train

They're from the DLS by tmz06003 - search '456' and tick TRS04.

Paul

p.s. Jamie - it's a reasonable question, I posted pics of them on this route a couple of pages back...

Oops, didn't notice, i thought he was asking random trains becase you're, like an experienecd member of the forum

I don't know nothin' 'bout your pommy trains:hehe:

Like some tea, guvna??:hehe:

Paul is this being worked on?? I suppose you've been busy fixing the DLS content, but I would like some reassurance it's still alive

Jamie

Yes - it's still alive.

The Bridgehampton Metro South 2 route is basically finished - I just need to complete some content for it.

Bridgehampton Coastal is coming along, but still a long way off complete. There's quite a bit of content required for this as well.

I'm also working on an extension of Hampton Mall for TS2010 that will about double its length - very early days on this so far.

The main Bridgehampton Metro route remains largely un-worked on. It's just too big and detailed to be workable in surveyor on my 4 year old machine. It really needs a LOT of work to bring it up to scratch and extend it.

I also still intend to complete Westhaven Branch, including an upgrade for TS10, but I've barely looked at that in a year or more.

In adddition to route work I've got some content projects on the go:
-A comprehensive set of single wire tram overhead items
-A set of modern office and other commercial buildings
-A UK road and road markings set
I also intend to rework and improve my pavement and elevated sets.

All of the above will be for TS09/10 and upwards, and use normal mapping and mesh libraries where appropriate.

Paul

A few more pics of Bridgehampton Metro South. I'm tinkering with road markings, as I change over to my new TS09 UK road kit. Then I think I've just got to add some more street-lighting and signage.

I'm very impressed with your work Paul and as I'm working on a small city centre route at present (2 boards), I think I may well be incorporating some of your tram elements to increase the 'operational interest' level.

Cheers,
Innis

Thanks guys -

@pfx - you may be interested in my forthcoming tram overhead kit - I anticiapate getting it out within a couple of weeks. I intend to get the roads out in the same kind of timescale.

A couple more from (almost) final testing:

I've still got more content to finish and upload - the tram overhead is part uploaded, the only real work to do is on the road system.

This probably is finally a good time to ask about beta testers...

Paul

I will also beta for you. I have TS2009/2010. I could even dig out my '06 or '04 if you needed that too :D
