Right. I think we are there!
Full report:
Had a day out with my wife yesterday. Travelled a fair bit around the south coast. Did some shopping. There was sunshine. Probably the warmest UK day this year. She enjoyed it immensely.
It wasn’t an entire waste of time though. I did manage to see the last of the BR slam door trains still in use on the Brockenhurst to Lymington line which end their service next month.
The DLS was out of action, so it was perfect timing. Well done Auran! I’ve promised to take her out again. Anyone know a stationery store where you can get a 2015 diary?
Tongue now firmly out of cheek!

So. Back in the comfy chair and I’ve got the 9f!
Brilliant. Thank you creators, all involved in its making and the good people here for all the help.
There’s still an endless amount to do on the route. I’ve started it at my nostalgic train spotting position, from where the photo was taken, alongside the Western and Southern Region lines east of Wilton. It was a great place for seeing the Castles, Schools, Standards, BoB, WC etc. All on the same day, and without moving from my perch on the SR bridge parapet.
Not a particularly sensible place to start a route though (or sit with my mates when I think back), but it will keep me happy for a bit. The 9f was going east towards Salisbury. I’ve not been back that way for over 45 years. Just looking it on Google Street View, shows loads of changes. The old SR line is still working, but the Western line seems to end at the bridge, with just a shunt line from the local chalk pit. The rest, towards Salisbury, is now all houses.

I’ve put in the first truck. I think it was a cattle truck, and is the best I can find so far. If anyone can give me a pointer to something closer to the one in the old B&W pic in post #1, I’d be really grateful. Oh, and the bridge. The one in the shot has roughly the correct width & height dimensions, but the top’s all wrong. Is there something like it already made? If not I’ll build one out of asset parts.
Any good advice out there would be nice to have. Thanks again folks.
Cheers
Casper
Here she is (the loco, not my wife – she’s far too precious to share with you lot!):
