Blue Passenger Pack

Again with the software! Yes the software that the game uses is only as temporary as the company is operating. No argument there. I agree with you.
Again like a broken record, I am referring to assets purchased through the store. NOT the software that the game runs on.
I own those items outright. There they sit on my hard drive. I don t lose them. They will always be there. Full stop.
Unfortunately, when you stop paying rent, Ka-blam! The items you rented are no longer on your hard drive! Unable to be used. Nada nix Nope! That is why I don t go into the rental market with N3V being the landlord. Talk about going off on a tangent. Sheesh.
You upset that i rocked the apple cart referring to those who make financial rewards out of more renters? Yes It is called conflict of interest, when mr hotbox cajoles, pushes , bullys and puts down those of us (the majority) who do not wish to pay rent, without admitting a financial reward out of more renters on the rolls, yes I will call that out. Or is it the word renter, which upsets and triggers you? Here: RENTERS = SUBSCRIBERS! Reality! :ROFLMAO:
Pilotwoo has admitted that he makes money out of the renters. Cool with that. Honesty and transparency is to be respected. Some fools find that funny, but in business, it is a serious matter.
I mean you dont outright own the DLC you buy from the store either they'll be leased items as well with the understanding that you will have access of them going foward, but if trainz went under or the game that the dlc can work for stops getting supported and the content brakes, there is no promise of that media being there. I understand the argument in our ever growing "you will rent everything and own nothing" world people want more and more to have physical media so it is not just taken from them, but Trainz always will/has been in a leased service and gold is just the next evaluation of that with subscriptions funding development instead of having a new release every year or two like other games do. I actually downloaded all of the Australian DLCs today from the Trainz store as I have been looking to have some fun with that content and to outright buy that would of costed me many £100s, having gold enabled me to explore a new side of Trainz and have some fun experiences I couldn't get with the outright store. I think that's a perspective missed in all this. Likewise while yes N3V are going to promote their subscription services via making their DLC Gold only, the rest of 3rd party devs offer both Trainz gold and outright purchase so the vast majority of content you can just own, so one has to wonder if the reaction N3V gets every time they do anything in the UK Community is proportionate....

Barney

All versions of Trainz except Trainz Plus can be bought and owned outright. It's yours to keep. All DLC you purchase is yours to keep outright. The connection to N3V is to check if you have a valid version to gain access to other Trainz products like the DLS or DLC. If N3V failed, you would still be able to use the products you bought. The only loss would be the Trainz Plus version and access to DLC and DLS assets you have not purchased or downloaded.

Do we own the games we buy?

Your license confers no title or ownership in the Content and Services.” You’re not buying the games, you’re buying the license to use them.

When you buy a game do you own it? Because you have never owned a game you bought. You own a license to the software on the media but you don’t actually own the software itself. So there is no difference between buying a digital and physical copy as far as ownership or rights are concerned.

Renewed my Gold membership today for a month, to have a look at this pack. Class 47 cab is not bad. But the Class 40 uses the Class 37 cab from TS19, which is shocking for payware.
Not my idea of quality payware, when in TSC the Railright Class 40 a much older model, is superior.
Gold membership cancelled.

I think my difficulty is with the right version of TANE I can still run a working SIM and load content into it. For later versions this isn't true and when one spends several years building a layout it is all a waste of time if N3V disappears.

TBH, certainly as regards the coaches the Mark Ones that came with the Settle & Carlisle route and the additional Railsim UK content looked better, particularly the interior. Those window frames are plain wrong.

Yes I do. The items sitting on my hard drives are owned by me. Full stop. Cheers matey. Will not respond anymore. Have a good day.:)
Leasing!

Search it up, when I purchase a game online do I own it or lease it
Google results: Do not own
Bing results: Leasing

We do not and never will own digital purchases we make online, if it is a physical item it is then it is owned, unless of course you are renting it from Radio Rentals
A similar principle is when it comes to purchasing a house or private island, in Australia the maximum agreement leased term is 99 years. Just read the fine print

There's a lot of splitting hairs here about licenses and so on. Truth is, I have previous versions of Trainz on discs or installed on my hard drive that will carry on working whether N3V exist or not (yeah, I know licenses blah blah, but no court is going to stop me using an old game from a bankrupt company that's installed on my hard drive and works). Since SP1 in TS12, N3V introduced DRM and the need for the installation to 'phone home' at regular intervals. So, yes, a problem if N3V go under as my (stand alone) TRS 19 and 22 installations will stop working. No doubt in that (appalling) situation, the community will rally round as best we can to try and find a way through that situation that keeps the lights on. But I'm assuming, in that worst case scenario, only the stand alone installations would be salvageable, not the subscription ones. In that case, it would matter whether you 'own' or 'rent' as the subscription-based stuff would vanish instantly.

Of course, this is all worst case scenario stuff. But as the old saying has it, 'hope for the best, prepare for the worst.'

Apart from the quality issues, IMHO the biggest flaw with this pack is that it’s only available to subscription users, not those who choose to use the standard (N3V or Steam) version of the game. So you need to keep paying the subscription to access content you paid for over and above.

With a normal version of the game, all the content I purchased over the years is available to keep using at no extra cost.

I have no idea why DLC in the Store have prices on them (this pack $24.99 if my memory serves me correctly). When they are only going to be available to suckers oops Gold members like me.

Zec mentioned before that this has something to do with how the Content Store and My Store work and the price is required even for those items that are not available for sale.

You'd think they could put in a zero (zed) value or something, but apparently someone didn't think this through completely or far enough.

I must say my attitude about Gold is hardening due to the arrogance of many Gold users that you see on here who feel a sense of entitlement because they can afford the subscription compared to those who can't. 20 years ago we had a united community that worked together to create the Download Station and a fantastic creative commons of shared models and reskins. Today I see a two-tier community with a Gold elite sneering at those who can't afford a £100 a year subscription for the latest models and apparently have to live with 20 year models instead.
