Hello Kurt

I've been very slack lately! but I've just remembered this.

I would like to find a solution for the following - in some parts of the tram route - tracks are laying within the roads and I get the following phenomenon. Trams are riding over the cars which are driving in front of them, or cars are riding through the trams.

My solution way back in TRS2004 was to make my own 'city street' without traffic, the idea being that where traffic was required they could be overlaid with invisible roads where traffic was needed, avoiding those places where there would be a conflict with trams. This is, I thought, a better solution than just disabling traffic which would mean no traffic anywhere on the route.

Best wishes.

Ray

Hello Ray,

Thank you for City Street without traffic idea. :)

As soon as I feel better ( batteries loaded ;) ) - I will check out your city street without traffic and see where it can be used within the route.

Hello,

Still having some issues with the trams not stopping at several stops. Nevertheless, here are some other screenshots of the tram section within the route.

In the near future some changes will be done on the line Oostende - De Panne. Plans have been made that trams will no longer follow the track going into Lombardsijde. The track going to Lombardsijde dorp will be removed in 2018. In the route both lines are already placed, however at this time only screenshots of the line at this moment will be placed.

Hello Kurt

Re the long station name sign - I solved a similar problem by placing the words on more than one line.

Mine was:
Hillington
for
Sandringham
with all three words centred. This was a station on the M&GN used at times by the royal family as an alternative to Wolverton - until 1959 when the M&GN was closed.

More later with an update on my revised tram models - but it's been most enjoyable having another look at all your screenshots along the route.

Hello Ray,

I'm glad you enjoyed viewing the screenshots of the route :).

I will have a look if it is possible to place the tram stop name on more than one line.

Within the train section ( some pictures will follow at a later time ) some of your backdrops will be used.

All the best.

Hello Kurt

The name board with more than one line which I mentioned just included the names as part of the texture, IE. a second text layer over the background. The two then merged. As this was a one-off I did not make it renamable - although I know this can be done.

Hello Ray,

Mentioning the texture - well that was the signal :D.

Within the route - I use the object renamble station sign 00. I went into the config file ( I often forget it to have a close look at it ) and saw the text - font size.

I downloaded the renamble station sign 01 and changed the font size from 0.15 points to 0.10 points.

And I got this fine result

Hello Kurt - I'm glad you solved the problem.

Do you know, please, what kind of warning signal was used on the coastal trams of the 1930s to 1950s? In the UK, many trams used a very unmusical gong operated by the driver stamping on it with his foot! I would very much to to add the right sound to the models I'm (slowly) working on. There are plenty of pictures available on the internet and the drawing I received from Martin Petch showed a pair of what appear to be horns on the roof. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hello Ray,

Are you looking for the alarm sound of

1) Electrical traction type OB (1906-1958) = 27,28 m type: -A 9965 OB - A 8768 OB - A 11593 OB

or

2) Electrical traction type Standaard (1930-1956) = 47,82 m type : -A 9985 -A 19211 - A 19656 (ex 9944) -A 871

There are some youtube films available - but the alarm sounds in the films are probably the alarm sounds of the modern trams.

I will ask someone if he can give me some extra information about the alarm sound and if the alarm sound is still available for recording.

Best regards

Hello Kurt

I'm really thinking of the diesel trams 1930s to 1950s since that is what I am modelling. Perhaps they all had the same warning signal whatever the means of traction. The drawing that I have been given is of AR234, the first of the last batch to be built, but I'm aiming to do a typical model rather than a specific one.

Best wishes.

Hello Ray,

Have a look at this youtube movie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhwOEwJ56ac - between minutes 1.31 and 2.03 you wil see the AR193.

And this movie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBWohLXGkDQ - at minute 6.24 - a alarm sound is heard - and this alarm sound will probably be the original one.

I will ask extra information about this type of tram ( AR193 ).

Best regards

Hello Kurt

Many, many thanks for these links. I'm using my tablet at the moment and have played both videos but I'll certainly have another look - and no doubt more than one! - tomorrow "large screen" on my computer and try to record some sounds.

Again, many thanks.

Ray
