Backing up Trainz 12

I have been recently buying a lot of payware for trainz 12 from jointed rail and auran and I am worried if someting were to happen to the game forcing me to reinstall or my computer breaking or anything that would make me loose all my downloaded stuff. How can I back it up? And heres another question that is totally differnet: When I am installing content and there is something the same, Should I overwrite or skip? Thanks!

Just copy the whole N3V Games directory to a backup device. You can play from the backup location if you wanted to (although I advise against that.)

This is a very successful way to back up and ensures that everything is replaced just in case the system fries.

If anything should happen then all you need to do is install from the orginal disks and then copy your stuff back in. The reason for installing the program, plus any add-ons from the original disks, is to ensure that the program registers in the system properly. Other than that, it will run fine even if it's just copied back from the backup media.

This method also works well if there are new service packs out. Do a copy first then do the SP. If the SP blows up, restore your whole install back in, and your're off and running without a hitch.

For your file copy, I recommend the following program, which will run a heck of a lot faster than Windows Explorer, and offers some nice features as well.

Fast Copy 2.8.
