Australian screenshots

Hi guys,
kind of a long time lurker, first time poster on this thread, and on these forums as well. Here's my first real attempt at doing textures etc, the end of the line before a long since abandoned branch to an old abandoned mine, with some abandoned bogeys and an abandoned boxcar just visible down the track. Any suggestions/tips would be welcomed, cheers.

**gets out scissors* excellent first start, just an observation, and I'm not perfect..not even close...but when doing 'texturing' I like to use the smallest radius for scale and 'brush' for upclose and detailed work, to get a nice 'tight' grouping for the texture, becoming progressively 'bigger' the further away from the track I go. Nice touch with the rail there, I'd run 'slight rust' rail too that, then 'break' the spline point before adding the rest of the track, so that stop block acts as a 'signal' and the trainz will stop there, or if you have one further down, etc, they'll want to 'go past it' and ruin the effect...you've inspired me too 'have a go' and see what I come up with, which I'll do later and try to 'demonstrate' what I mean - as for the bogeys and such, I'd put them 'lineside' (beside the track) give it a few more weeds and such, and all that, make it really look abandoned and forgotten!

Thanks for the tips. :)

I've had a bit of a muck around, and changed things a bit. I've changed the ground texture, 'broken' the spline point and added some rusted rail a little bit along the old track, and moved the bogies and the boxcar off to the side of the track as per your suggestion.

The way I have it set up at the moment, the 'in use' part of the track does occasionally see some traffic/usage as a storage siding.

Oh, and a kind of side issue, does anybody know of any Australian pedestrian/zebra crossing signs? Or alternatively Australian give way to cyclists / cycle path crossing signs?
I've only been able to find UK crossing signs on the DLS, and well they don't really work given that the signage is different (their crossing signs seem more like our watch out for pedestrian signs....)
Thanks.

Been lurking for a while. Everything looks great as usual! =)

Need a hand with how milk was moved on the railways? Well, my father drives milk tankers here in Taree and has been for 25 years. Taree had two factories, Manning River Co-op and Peters Creamery. Dad was with Peters (and was going to apply to pick up for Manning River in a joint effort, but that's another story) and he brought milk in to the factory (in the early days an FF Hino, then a bigger Hino with a 10 speed RoadRanger, then a 1418 Benz... I'm getting off topic) where it was pumped into one of the 4 storage silos at the factory. The rail siding was down the back of the factory (Manning River siding on NSWrail.net) and the milk required in Sydney was pumped into (in the 1980s) NZMAs or NZMF wagons (which were ex- MLV and BSV underframes with tankers on them). This was then railed to Sydney to be packed at the factories in Sydney (Darling Harbour, Ultimo, Pippita). Milk packed at Taree was loaded into RACE containers.
In earlier times, bulk milk was loaded into BMTs, and CV/ICV wagons handled the packaged milk & ice cream (ICV - Ice Cream Van), then later MLV vans. Milk was never transported during the 60s 70s and 80s by loading the milk cans (or churns) onto the rail wagon. The milk can trucks would arrive from the farms and the milk would be tipped into vats, tested, then maybe pumped into BMTs or processed. Not sure about other areas, but the North Coast & Hunter factories (Dungog, Hexham, Taree, Norco) did milk transport in this way.
An interesting aside, in the rail strikes of the 1980s the milk would go rotten in the siding. To prevent spoilage and get it to Sydney, the tanks were unbolted and loaded onto a flat deck truck. So, a 38 tonne limit for semi-trailers, truck and trailer around 12 tonne gross, a heavy stainless steel tank with 20,000 odd litres of milk in it... wouldn't want to stop at Mt White or Twelve Mile weighbridge!

Keep up the great work guys. Feel like some Trainz now! =D
Catch ya's!

Thats it - now you're getting there - I approve, it appeals to me immensely my young apprentice - before too long, you'll be ad dedicated 'old branchline' builder like I am...now, let me dissapear into surveyor for a few, I might come up with a few ideas of my own as a demonstration - but thats looking mighty fine as it is!

Additional: Thanks for the information on the milk haulage mate, much appreciated there - I certainly agree, he'd avoid ever weighbridge he could think of, with a load like that on the back *chuckles softly*

Thanks for the compliments and feedback guys :)

Daniel that photo is awesome. I love how there's a buffer stop and the disused line continues on. Just something about knowing that that extra section will never be used again which appeals to me! Love it mate. More shots please!

What an awesome photo Mulie. Abandoned branchlines for the win :)

The trestle bridge one is great.

Any more photos of abandoned sidings etc?

Hello Everyone

Excellent, I am very much looking forward to trying it out, and making some assesments. I have high expectations for the Kingaroy Line, and I hope it lives up to the high standards that Patchy has created.

Hi Ron,

When searching on the black pages only put in the kuid numbers (not kuid2) and no version number (:1) in the kuid.
search as 12060:38076 and this should give you the result you are looking for.

Hope this helps in future searches.

Cheers,

Bill.

 Hi Ron

When you go looking for Kuid's on the Black page's dont use the 2: only use -- 124060:38076
