Australian screenshots

Check your email, I sent you a 'WIP' similar to whats shown on the screenshots, do whatever you want with it, it IS yours after all (I made it for you) so change, alter, do whatever you like, thats the 'bare bones' of it, I'll slowly work on tinkering with it, but could be a while - my 'motivation' for Trainz just isn't what it once was.

And now downloaded - thanks for that Bearcat245, appreciate it mate.

*edit* Dimi_109, your wish is my command...within reason :P I present, your (very much work in progress) Fruit Co-Op/Milk 'yard' you requested.

I hope this meets your expectations (texturing and scenery placement will be forthcoming, just needed to get the 'basics' down (and yes, its much bigger than I expected it to be, this is a yard more suited to the outskirts of a town, etc.

Great work, makes me want to have another go at some rail yards ive had on the work board for ages now

Great start Mulie. Can i ask what the kuid of that fruit shed is? Could use it for my Narranderra yard rip-off. Cheers, Matt.
Hi Mattm,

*slaps forehead* duly noted - okay, I'm throwing this open for debate - I'm throwing open the doors for ideas, as I'm really lost for concept to flesh this thing out and make it 'stand out' as it were.

Some perishable traffic thoughts; maybe fruit and vege as well as milk/cream may be handled by the same local coop so maybe the same building in some places but not all places as some places would have them separate mainly due to different trains. The fruit/vege may go in louvre or chilled vans to the capital city markets so the loading dock has to fit maybe a couple of vans left by the previous train. In other places the smaller lots were loaded while the train waited.

The cream or milk maybe goes in the guards van or special louvre van on the mixed passenger train or in the guards section of the branch line's rail motor. That would locate the cream shed on the end of the passenger platform so the cream churns can be loaded into the guards van at the same time the passengers joined the train. In other areas either the fruit/ vege or cream shed was just beside the line next to the farmer's gate. Several of these farm stops listed for banana traffic in the 1958 Time Table for the Casino Murwillumbah branch.

The bottom line; suit your selves to fit local conditions as the railways and farmers did just that; different styles in different area due to different needs.

Email replied! The yard is nothing short of perfect. Can't wait to get some screenshots up with 48 class and 44 class in the yard!

To be honest, your work is great. I would actually pay you to do a nicely sized branch line layout for us! Nothing too big, just one of those 4mb sized ones would be great haha.

If you ever have some spare time up your sleeve i'd love to see more layouts from you!

I have the 'skeleton' of the yard in place, its putting flesh and such on the 'bones' where I struggle with route building (vis, what belongs there, what 'feels' right, etc - I'll be 'dirtying' up that fuel spur siding, putting some more eye candy in there (some old drums, oil spills, etc (as one would expect, some spillage occurs regardless of how careful one is loading/unloading tankers, etc), *thinks* not 100% sold on the milk shed and churns, just doesn't 'feel' right - but might try to pretty it up with a tanker or two parked there (to give a 'purpose of being') as there is no proper milk-shed loading/unloading point, the fruit depot would make a good 'double-up' for the loading of milk in churns, etc (as it'd have refrigerated compartments for perishable fruits, etc)...but yes, its fleshing out these fictional yards with what would realistically be there (apart from the odd weed and such here and there), but as I said - I'll keep tinkering, the trackwork is mostly done (I still think a engine shed or something would be appropriate) - maybe...drop the milk siding for a single stall engine shed? I'm open to suggestions....

What era would you like, bulk milk in tanker cars or cream churns with the remaining skim milk fed to the pigs and later sold as pork? If you live near a very large city you may have a fresh milk market therefore bulk tank cars but if you live away from a large city you might specialise in cheese or butter but still with pork as a side line. Bega decided on cheese. Other choices include butter, milk powder and ice cream etc

The Bega Cheese website has a good historical timeline that may help anyone interested in the bulk milk introduction era.

The Norco site also has a useful timeline http://www.norco.com.au/about-norco-history.php

*ponders* well, as its Dimi_108's 'route' I'm making, he's asking for 44's, 48's, etc, so I'm guessing...(I'm not 100% sure on the 'time-period', somewhere from...60's-80's? *additional* Whilst I have limited exposure/knowledge of such times in the NSWGR (Later PTC, etc etc etc), they ARE my two favorite 'classes' along with the 47's and so on, I'm not a fan of the 'modern' NSW fleet, with GM's, NR's, etc etc etc.

Yes that's right 60's to 80's era :)

Hey Mulie, me neither, I'm not a fan of the modern NSW fleet either. With all that privatisation sh*t and weird colour schemes. Even Silverton's don't really do it for me.

Anything after Freightrail Blue livery doesn't interest me.

For the love of the Elder Gods Dimi, please get yahoo messenger or something, so I can talk 'real time' with you and discuss this route, I can't do much without information :)

For NSWGR (Later PTC, etc etc etc) time period; Bulk milk tankers in that case. I also suggest a NSW SRA NQSF Container Wagon + LRC Container which is RACE refrigerated container on a flatcar. That will handle the fresh fruit and veges as well as the manufactured dairy products. Set the temperature to either freezer or chiller as desired. 47 class as well as the others ok for that as well. 47 class were out west and they had lots of fruit and vege traffic. Actually one of my own desired time periods.

YES!!! That's brilliant. Wow. You totally transformed it in one night.

I'm installing MSN messenger now so we can chat.

That photo with the containers is awesome. Very 80's especially with those RACE containers.

Will it require the Tall Trees expansion? Or it's all goof for TS12? :)

I'll email you a 'WIP' so you can see for yourself, I don't think it uses any 'extraneous' content (such as the wonderful textures I'd like to use) that come with the Treez pack, so let me know if you have any 'quirks' and I'll address them

They are indeed, wether they are part of the 'Treez' pack (which I have installed) or Built-In to TRS2012 itself, I honestly don't recall, I think (and I may be wrong!) that they come with TRS2012 as 'standard'. There is a very narrow band of 'usable' trees for Aussie routes in my opinion, that are built-in, which is a real shame (Some of them have like horribly spindly trunks and such) or others are just massive leaves and look silly.

*additional* Tree Gum 04 (KUID:523:1105), Tree Gum 078 (KUID:523:1598) and Tree Gum 08 (KUID:523:1599) are the three that I often use

One hopes Ghosty that your computer issues didn't resualt in a loss of your work... I think everyone would be distressed if that happened..

*slaps forehead* duly noted - okay, I'm throwing this open for debate - that route is obviously just really a 'skeleton' - I need to put flesh on those bones, but what would people excpect in a yard of 'reasonable' size and complexity? I haven't added any carriage sheds/loco sheds (can add them as a dead end spur or something...), oviously, some trees, weeds here and there...maybe replace that cream shed which looks so out of place (that really belongs on some short siding on a fictional branchline in the country...) I'm throwing open the doors for ideas, as I'm really lost for concept to flesh this thing out and make it 'stand out' as it were.

I would think a rail yard of this size would be located with a number of support staff and the ancillary structures that go with rail families or communities rising out of the wilderness. maybe a small assortment of stores, school yard and a pub. along with a fuel depot. and maybe a grain silo or cattle yards.. to support the size of the yards ..

Oh I could go on but I think that would do from me....
