Australian screenshots

I agree, the lander cars may, in reality, have very limited 'life' left, but these look fantastic Bill, now, if we can only work out a 'working consist' for them, to set up a 'fixed' consist of lander cars, and get the two loco's out to haul them, we'll be right :)

G'day everyone,
Long time since I've posted, and what can I say? Awesome work everyone!

Pete, great work with the new 32s, the 421, the SAR 720 and those fantastic cement pots!:D The 32s will come in handy when I get around to building my Taree - Wingham section of the North Coast Line.
Mulie, FR, patchy, brilliant screenies you fellas! I can't say enough about your scenery and trackwork, great job.
That just about goes for everyone around here, fantastic work.:)

As for our mates up north, look after yourselves. My condolences to those who may have lost family members in those devistating floods. Stay safe, and stay strong.:(

I've got a question or two for those experts of the NSW Railways. The D57 class locomotive, 5713. In this model railway video; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPYbBlBX-E0&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL

5713 has a regular 57s boiler, but an articulated wheel layout. This confused me, I couldn't find info about 5713 anywhere. Not in my railway books, nor after a search on Google. So, is this just a fictional model or maybe modelled about a real prototype? Before my trip to my aunty's place in Brisbane on the XPT (this was before the flooding) my grandfather was talking to a bloke (I won't reveal his name, because he's probably not here, and doesn't want his first name plastered on the internet) who used to work on the South, out of Goulburn. He was an engineman, so it was interesting to hear stories about his experiences with steam engines, and early diesels. He said he drove 57s, but I didn't remeber to ask him about 5713 until I was on the train to Brisbane.:hehe:

Since this is a screenies thread, I reckon I should post a screenie.

A NSW SRA freighter headed by two unidentified 48s crosses Willow Creek on a stormy morning.

The next day, I catch the middle of the same train in a clear sky, this time lead by an 81 due to a higher loading.

Well, I think that just about finishes this post. I'll start hanging around again... maybe.
Thanks,
Mitch

The SAR 750 class loco is available over at Victrainz, superscript numbers on the loco and the tender has manual numbering.

cheers

Mules,
Leave that idea with me and I will see what I can do. I have some people who might be able to get me some info or I might be able to get hold of something myself. I'll get straight onto it this week.

re 5713

thats a furphy that one, I have the 57/58 book and that was never done to any of them. A flight of fancy, sorry

just found the following pic of 5713 and its the same as the rest
cheers
pete

Righto, thanks Pete. I was just thinking it may have been a testbed for a possible NSWGR articulated loco.
By the way, thanks for the new SAR 750, I'll download it later.:D
Thanks,
Mitch

EDIT: Mulie, how can you approve my screenshots when yours are much more developed? Thanks anyway I 'spose...:hehe:

the answer is to be found in Preston's book on the 53 & 55 class. During the 30's Lucy schemed up a number of designs as successors to the 57 class including a number of mallet types - based on the boiler of the 57, married to the engine unit of the K class in both 2-6-8-0 & 2-8-8-0 types. An artist's impression actually listed it as the 58 class, complete with southern valvegear, so I'm guessing the modeller decided that to keep some sembalance of historical plausibility by suggesting the 5713 was altered as a testbed ..

personally I'm thinking that had such a machine been built, it would have traded the K class's southern valvegear for the already established and highly successful walschaerts variety

there are a few other paper schemes/legends as well - the T/P a 4-8-0 version of the T class , a proposal to marry a 59 class boiler to the engine unit of a garratt.. and I've always wondered if a freight version of the 38 was ever considered

Not so fast, there Bill + Steve!!!... No Trainz for a week and be greeted to a nice gift. Thanks Pete.

At home on the Eden Valley Lumber trains... :p
