Interesting Find...

Hey Everyone,

I keep seeing the most interesting thing lately. I was wondering if anyone knew why? There's this truck that drives around my town. It's white, with a red stripe and the big [DB] logo on the side, identically to the Duetsche Bundesbahn. What's the deal with that?

Cheers,
Mitch

P.S. Nice wagons, Matt!

Awesome stuff Matt!! :D One must wonder though, why oh why did CFCLA paint them in green? Good luck to the Auscision boys in selling their HO Scale model versions, hehe!

Looking forward to them mate, well done! :)

Thanks Craig and Tom for the kind comments! :)

To answer your question Tom, the first series were painted green upon their introduction to service as Freight Australia was the first operator to lease them from CFCLA IIRC, even though the green was too light to match the FA green. :hehe:

Cheers,

Matt

I don't know what the deal is Mitch but I can tell you where it comes from. I have a feeling the truck you are talking about parks out near me. I am pretty sure it sounds like one I've seen parked out here on one of the main roads. If I can I will get the name of the company off the side and see what I can find out. It did look to be a German company of some description. I should pass it on the way too or from work tomorrow.

DB Schenker or however you spell it are in Australia. There is a depot in Western Australia at Forrestfield (Perth) and i know there is are depots in either NSW or QLD?

So possibly another rail company in the future!!!

Cheers

Ahhh that explains it! Thanks Matt, always wanted to know why they went with that colour green. They look much nice in the PN scheme though :p

Hi Glen,

It definately was Duetsche Bundesbahn, or a subsidery company. It had the logo on the side. If it helps, last time i saw it, it was parked by the side of Deception Bay Road, about 5 minutes from the highway.

Thanks!
Mitch

trainfan is correct in the name on the side of the van and Mitch you are correct in the location I saw it. Checked it out on the way in this morning and it was DB Schenker. A quick Google brought up a page stating "The Automotive Market Unit of DB Schenker Rail, Deutsche Bahn's rail freight operator". So railfan may be correct?? Might we see yet another operator in Qld???

decided to redo one of the locos I made when I first started making these things. This is an early progress shot on the totally new build

go Pete - your P class has long needed an update... now, will there be a high frame version as well ? :P

I dont have plans for that as it is not on the data sheet diagram, or maybe it is. the one illustrated is the superheated reframed version and the other does have lower frame sides more noticeable around the smoke box. Not explained clearly on the data sheet, so perhaps you could let me know.

Eggggcellent, as usual Pete.

I've been riding behind the real thing sporadically over the last few months, so this has me salivating about the virtual version. :udrool:

hey pete was pulling your leg :) - Tis a minor detail and other than perhaps saving a few poly's probably not worth the effort :)

the best way to tell the high frame/low frame is the shape of the footplate. On the low frame it has the elegant sweep down to the buffer beam as done your model ( together with the curved cutouts on the frames under the smokebox - 3265 is the only remaining low frame P class). the high frame simplified the foot plate, with a simple bend and flat plate down to the buffer beam - see 3237 http://www.pbase.com/stanb/image/98701164. I thought the data sheet may have shown the difference, but my brother has them so cant check for you

most of the P class in their later days were reframed .

Actually more useful would be doing both 6, and 8 wheeled versions of the tender - and give you a head start if you ever update your C30T since the 6 wheeled version was commonly paired with them for use on lines with smaller turntables ( the c30t 8 wheeled tender was usually the very similiar original T class tender, which, of course you have already done -tho others were also used )

lastly, you realise that if you do end up doing an original saturated P, you are setting your self up for the delights of turn of the century NSWGR ( and possibly starting a commonwealth railways) collection as well - should keep you busy for a little while :P

Happy Birthday

many happy returns David, have a great day.
@ Stanb No, I already have it built, I had your words echoing in my head so when I modelled the frame I made two versions the one you see with the curve down to the buffer and the other with the more or less straight line down to the buffer, shorter smokebox, set further back from the buffer, no headlight, but with lanterns and adjusted height of boiler, the only thing I have to do with it is to check if the chimney is the same, I dont think it is and may need some adjustment or new chimney. I had thought about the CR G class, there is not much info around in relation to it.
The plan I have shows saturated and unsaturated with a high and low frame but the footplate appears the same. i will check r. prestons 32 class and see if it has a plan with the different footplate in it, if not will need to try and find a pic of the P that shows the footplate clearly, would not take long to change.

My 32 class book only has one pic, any way early days yet I still have to do the main bogey. I cheated on the old one and just used an adjusted 30 class bogie, but not on this one. and tenders
cheers
pete
