I love this thing because of it's unusual design. Now that I've built it maybe I should do a 50 class
Will do the bogie in the next couple of days. These were not only used for shunting, but all the paraphernalia hanging off the back was for fighting fires

What type of tender is that and what engine did it run behind??? Ive seen one at NSWRTM but ive never seen nor heard of it before...

They were promently used on TFs and 50s that had to work on small turntables (is that right pete, not 100% sure) and for shunting. Mainly for the turntable is the main reason I would guess.

mate all i know is that they were used for shunting, there was a longer bogie version as well. they were used as far out as broken hill, port waratah and in the yards around Sydney. they were used behind anything from a 32 to a 50, but only on shunting duties

According to Preston, the sole tender type B - 4 wheel, 2t coal, Number LO32, was used in and around sydney, and finished its days behind saturated 5202 shunting Clyde - the extinguisher gear was a just in case fitting, tho with only 800 gallons It wouldn't have been a great fire engine . the single Tender type A (LO33) - an 8 wheeled version had a much more varied life, initially behind a C32 during construction of the line to broken hill, then spent a period behind various 50 classes working out of Pt Waratah (Including on the coal roads - theres a pic of it paired with 5195 at hexham in standrads in steam - 50 class), before ending up working the sydney yards..


If you do go ahead with a 50 class, may I suggest aiming for the saturated variant (with the short smokebox - there were saturates with long smokeboxes - can help with diagrams and pics) - that will compliment John_SB's superheated version very nicely.

Yes I was thinking of the 50, hadnt occurred to do a different variant to that of Johnsb's. if you have plans, diagrams, pics would be very appreciated. who knows might even do a waisted firebox

Unless its the angle the nose looks to rounded to me...

Cheers Pete - while there are a few saturated 50's in the gallery, I've found a few clearer shots of the normal saturated T ( D50 class) :

here is a superheated one a la John_SB http://www.pbase.com/stanb/image/91589105 (although his is actually the north british built variant with the funnel further back on the smokebox)

and finally by way of comparison, from front to back - a 53, a superheat 50, another 53, and saturated finally 5069 http://www.pbase.com/stanb/image/91647605

In the gallery there's also a few of 5112 which was a unique amongst teh saturates in being fitted with electic lights, leading auto coupler, and a turretted morts dock tender - Incidently speaking of tenders , you should have the correct mesh for the original T class tender - the c30T 8 wheeler's were recycled d50 class tenders so if the mesh is accurate then that will enable a quicker build

The two Accos you have with the air horns on the roof need their exhausts moved to the left hand side. Only the inter T line had exhausts like that! mm rivet counting

The chargemen, one by the name of...."Nat," ordered an extra 45 to be assigned to the roster of Freight, Wallangarra - Broadmeadow, for the steep climp over Ardglen.

About to end their long trip, the 45s enter the outstirts of Newcastle...

Yeah, thats the best your going to get out of me for a days work. Still gotta put up wires and do a bit more landscaping (which is something I'm not good at).

Anyway, nice screenies Daniel. Compared to me, you can aleast get a whole layout done. The one I put up is just a small portion.

Nat, seriously cannot wait to get my grubby hands on some of that content, good stuff!

Oh - disclaimer - The TF wasn't going to bloomfield. I just got bored and thought I would drive it into a coal loader so I could finish up. Thanks for the heads up, I've got to watch what I'm doing.

Between Boronia's No.1 & 2

Hi all! Just some shots from the small portion of my layout I'm working on. It goes from Cowan to Wondabyne but I've only landscaped a very small bit between Boronia Tunnels No.1 and 2.

The Northern Tablelands Xplorer heads for Werris Creek

For some reason, the people from HMC have sent an S set up to Newcastle.

JU73 Coal headed by 8234/8168/8124/8244 for Wambo charges out of Boronia No.1 and gets a caution as it catches up to a Interurban.

Whats with IRA trains breaking down around here? :hehe:

And During Peak Hour! The Up Northern Tablelands Xplorer crosses back over to the Up line.

8179 to the rescue!

4168 now continues for Botany with 8179 at the helm.
