A down Shepparton Goods led by H1-T363 (hired)-G539 back in 2002

Wrong line running was common in Vic, track gangs could work freely on double track lines as all trains would only run the one side as single track block working, another interesting thing was when the Albury SG train derailed the VR converted some of the BG line to SG and connected it to the SG section to keep SG trains moving while they clean up the derailment, the up Melbourne section became 1 track for that short section so all down Melbourne trains where known as wrong line runners, lol

Someone posted photos on FB about it a few years ago, lol

I also saw something similar back in 1999 or 2000, one section of track between Corio and Lara is concrete sleepers while the other side was timber, V/Line had all trains running on the concrete sleeper track while track gangs replaced the old wooden sleepers with new wooden sleepers, today they do mass line closures just to replace a few sleepers.

Cheers.

G'day everyone,
Hope you're all having a great weekend. Some really nice shots lately, outstanding quality. I seem to have caught the steam bug again.....

Why would it need them though?

They where mostly added for ARE tours in the late 60's and early 70's as most of the coal stages where disused due to Dieselisation (I have photos somewhere but it'll take time to dig them up), the sacks can give between 1 to 1.3 tonnes extra coal which would allow it to travel another 50 km's or so and if the loco was poor firing it'll be using more coal than normal, also most tenders only hold between 100 to 110 cwt, coal sacks are pretty much an extra 20 to 30 cwt.

Hi Graeme,

Should post more :)

Cheers.

I love these photos Azervich. They are a good example of the Aussie countryside and make for better scenery detailing.

Are any of the lines to Foster and Heathcote still open?

Cheers,
Roy

G'day everyone,
Thanks for the compliments Roy.
I've been spending a bit of time updating Goulburn Murray this weekend, mainly swapping out trees and fixing my formerly terrible track laying. It's amazing how much I have learnt in a year and the skills I have picked up.
Aaron, because you asked so nicely........
