@Simon, I personally first saw John when he visited Pichi Richi back in June 2010, when we was visiting family in Port Augusta. I was on the footplate of W933, getting educated on driving the mighty W class, which was a first for me as I am used to RX classes, PB15's, C17's and the D17. We were sitting at Woolshed Flat, and he came up to the cab. The guard on the train yelled; "On ya John Morty" then I knew it was him, so we started talking about Commonwealth Railways, SAR Broad Gauge, a little of trainz and the occasional oddball ramblings for the rest of the trip when I was not on duty. He was a good bloke, and really friendly to approach. He was telling me stories when he grew up watching the old ghan run though these hills, where a NM class was going up hard. He would always say those where the days.

He also made trips down to Steamranger where he would always sit in his usual request seat of 101. He joked that was the age he wanted to live to, so thats why he wanted to sit there. I was proudly his attendant, sometimes his guard, somedays I was his driver. He used to always like to come up to the depot and check out the lighting up of the engines. Sometimes, we would let him have a go shunting as we were all nice blokes.

It has hit me personally, as I used to always see him at Pichi Richi & Steamranger every June/July Holidays as he would make the trip from where he was living to see his family and catch up with me and the lads at Pichi Richi & Steamranger. He will be missed by everyone as he was very knowladgable and he did give the young guards a run for the money.

To John Mortlock. The Gentle Giant of South Australia

Hi Ron,

Suggest checking some of the routes you've downloaded, eg Brisbane Valley or Kingaroy etc. May have something similar that you need so do the usual beg borrow or steal.

Sorry if you have already thought of this without any luck. There might even be one on the Brisbane to Kuraby, Gold Coast or Cleveland routes that have the curved cuttings.

Cheers,
Peter

@Ron,

Send me some photos of what you wish, and I am making the same thing for QR South Coast in Gmax. Bloody Coolangatta Cutting....

Now some Screenshots of my headache, Nerang River Bridge.

I don't know if this has been talked about before, but is there a possibility of an Australian version of Trainz being put together in the future, with content just from Australia, including routes, Loco's, rolling stock etc? Because I look around and see some fantastic content on this thread and I'm sure if we all kept creating we have a decent amount of stuff, even though we already have a decent amount anyway.

Cheers Cameron.

An Oz version of Trainz would be great, if N3V weren't into chasing the bucks they might consider it. N3V's view seems to be that the money is to be made from Europe and North America. I reckon that a TRS version with good Aussie content would be popular in other countries.

@Petan, funny because I was just about to mention that. I really could use that for Nerang. I bet you could throw a few roudy gimme pigs in there and let them think over their actions. :hehe:

Reminds me very much of the Nerang QLD one.......... (it is now preserved in a museum at Pimpama. Same museum has lots of other items of use to Trainz folk)

What's wrong with them chasing the dollar ?. Pretty sure if a company is to survive then they go for what sell's best, There are a couple of Aussie's giving the Payware side of the game a crack. Instead of whinging you should give it a go your self if you think your good enough that is as Europe and the US have raised the bar age's ago for Content Creation and i doubt we'll ever catch them.
Cheers Mick.:)

@Petan; Funny, because I just found the original diagrams of the Nerang Police Lock Up & Station in my collection, with all the dimentions and she is in colour, she will deffinatly worth being made for my South Coast Railway as I am modelling part of the Nerang Township.

Also, could you please dig around to find some track diagrams of Coolangatta and Tweed Heads, as I am currently refining the yards due to earlier guesswork. I just tracked down to Tugun and just about to join up with a section of track when I laid when I first started.

@Ron,

here; http://southcoastrestorationsociety.wordpress.com/

Did you know they used to have a 2ft Gauge Steam Railway, until recently when they sold the locomotives to a collector and the track was sold to a Bundy Sugar Mill.

@Patchy, yeah; I used to stand outside the Great Northern Hotel in Townsville when my great-uncle used to get into some cracking physcial fights at some of the boys at South Yard, back then there was an old rivarly between North Yard and the South Yard. Those were the days.

The Bun Pub, makes a bloody good roast, as I have travelled through there and make stops to check out the overgrown railway yards. Sadly the pub is up for sale at the moment as since April 2012, as the owners have called it quits after 50 years.

@Matruck, well isn't Trainz an Australian Creation, it was formed by an Australian Company; Auran. So it would make sense to come back to its original roots. Besides, we can give the Europeans & The Yanks a run for their money anyday.

Be Back Latter Tonight with some South Coast Pictures.
