Are you a rail photographer??

UnionStation_2.jpg

Those workers don't seem to be bothered by your photography, which is interesting, after hearing how the Network Rail guys (sometimes!) behave.

Another interesting thing I find, is the colour of your track crews orange jackets, ours have to be like this: http://s57.photobucket.com/albums/g217/wessexelectricnut/Others/?action=view&current=DSCF1009.jpg (Thats me in my boiler suit with the flash on and yes, it is bright, I have seen the reflection in someones sunglasses before! In fact, you have to wear sunglasses to see me!)

Anyway, here is some lineside photos, yes, they are legit. (Although I didn't ask taking them). I did take them in full safety, I do have a legit PTS, but don't do this at home if you do not have a Personal Track Safety certificate AND an orange jacket.

Hopefully, thats my rear covered anyway!

Hi WEN,
Those pics were taken from an enclosed overhead public walkway from the 'mainland' so to speak to the 'other side of the tracks' that leads to Toronto's CN Tower and the Roger's Centre (retractable roof sports stadium) and all pedestrian points south ;)

Those orange 'hitme' vests seem standard workman issue for most outdoor activities around Toronto, altho I have seen some like your 'boiler suits' on occasion.

Yes, but my boiler suit and orange jacket (Which doesn't have a hitme mark on the back!) has reflective white stripes, rather than yellow stripes. To be honest, after seeing how the colour turns up in your image and wearing a simliar vest, I prefer ours. You really cannot miss us that easily when working traside, unless someones rounding a corner.

darn, now i'll have to get busy to keep up the Australian end of this thread, looks like its going to be action stations for the next few weeks everytime I hear a train horn, lucky weve got three crossings in town will give me time to grab camera, get in the car and drive out to the last crossing and snap some shots.

who me have a life? naaaaaaahhhh :hehe:

I will now mar this thread with my crappy photos taken on my commutes from school:

Northbound VRE train from Fredericksburg had the side panels open and flapping about:

CSX SD60 idling outside Alexandria Union Station; it left 15 minutes later in what I believe was a deliberate attempt by CSX to delay the Southern Crescent:

Amtrak B40-8W, I don't think the normally come this far east? (Of course, there was an Amtrak California coach in a later train:confused:)

Was idling outside the station near my house:

I will have some decent photos soon.

I could buy that. By the time the Southbound gets to the 'Ham, the delays stack up until the train pulls into the old L&N platforms* upwards of 3 hours late. :o

*Not quite sure what to call it, 'cos it sure ain't a proper station! :hehe:

ok time for a couple of Australian shots

a Frieght Australia G class ( yep like the one on the DLS ) idling on a passing loop in town with a loaded ore train behind:

bigfitzy - thanks for the pics!

They have English Electric power units.

The ore train is in fact the mineral sands train. The ore train that passes through Peterborough is the one with the white ecofab covers on top of the wagons.

yep thats the one blue wagons, they look almost new, where are they from and where are they heading?

The Mineral sands are mined south of Broken Hill, trucked to the processing plant at Kanandah just west of Broken Hill, then railed to Port Adelaide. Some of it is exported directly from there while the remainder is shipped to WA for further processing. Runs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays ex Broken Hill returning the next day.

A couple of pics of the first train just after it arrived at Port Adelaide (May 2006).

In 1981 some Class 50s were repaired at Doncaster Plant and run-in on test trains or (if you were lucky) on a Cross Country train. Here is gleaming 50010 Monarch on the centre roads at Doncaster hading for York...:mop:

Many thanks to the people who are keeping this thread ticking over. Extra thanks to those of you who provide a little bit of information. Lewisner, I well remember test trains from Doncaster Works travelling through Knottingley. We always seemed to be in our physics lessons and Mr Peck got so fed up of us turning round that he ended up telling us when they were going past, so that we could concentrate! more on his lessons.

After tea there used to be a train coming from York to Doncaster. Usually this produced a pair of class 31s and often had DMU vehicles in it heading for the Plant. Some of the drivers used to let us ride in the cab when they shunted at Knottingley Station.

Now for a few pictures at York early 1980s?

I travelled to Scarborough with a group of mates (LOL) on this train. Whilst there they used me to see how deep the water was in Peasholme Park boating lake. Despite having been thrown in it was me that got the ticking off!

THE EVENING STAR!!!! wonderful so thats what the BR 9F's (that i had so much trouble getting to work lol ) look like "in the flesh", great pics.

and going back to the comment about being allowed in the cab, I remember catching a Bluebird railcar from Adelaide to Peterborough when I was but a kid, (thats well before they pulled the line up) and the driver letting me into the cab for a while. never forgot it... but thanks to safety and insurance laws thats a never to happen again thing i guess. :'(

Lovely photos Johnchisem! Do you remember how York used to have Electro - Pneumatic point motors which let out a loud hiss and crash as they moved? Sigh....
