Todays offering shows Class 20 20121 working a rather unprofitable coal train through the remains of Alloa station on 26.9.1980.As usual with the insane transport "policy" in the UK, the track was ripped up but is now being relaid and the line reopened. The 20s were (and still are) my 2nd fave loco class after the Deltics http://img119.imageshack.us/img119/7498/20121alloa26980au5.jpg

Just a reminder for you guys to keep an eye on your image sizes. There is a size limit of 800x600 on this forum.

thats why i set my photobucket account to automatically downsize to 800x600 or less when they are uploaded....very helpful feature

Oh very well :o it was early afternoon, but if you look closely (above pic) into the train shed, on the left, there is a headlight ... but it got cold on the walkway and I did have other places to go. (some trainspotter  )

But, yes there was one train go by ...

Note: the grey wall on the right is the base of the CN Tower.
And there is the vintage CP heaveyweight cars parked on the left siding.

Thanks Aradlaw, it's nice to see your pictures. May I ask if hand signalling was in operation as I can not see any fixed obvious signals? Did you photograph the road/rail truck in the corner of the last picture? It looks good!

John

Hi John,

The only signals are dwarfs as can be seen beside the truck. I am not an expert, but I would think that radio communications play a part in operation. Nowadays this is a commuter train corridor with the occasional thru freight.
Oh, here's the truck...

The workers below my vantage point seemed to be working on the switch heating ducts.

Aradlaw are you still allowed to call them "dwarfs" anymore? Shouldn"t they be "vertically challenged signals"?

47406 waits at Newcastle with a southbound parcels while 40199 stands on the centre road sometime early in 1980....
