In October 1980 ECML services were being diverted via the Joint Line and I walked from Sleaford station to Sleaford North Junction to get this shot of Deltic No 22 heading north...

In August 1981 ECML trains were being diverted via Lincoln and I snapped 55009 Alycidon at Lincoln Central with a Down train. The Deltics only had 4 more months to go so her paintwork is a bit shabby but luckily she was saved by some heroes!BTW the lads in this shot will be in their mid to late 30s now; I wonder if they"re still interested in trains, or even Trainz?;)

The Last Stop on the CZ inbound from Chicago.

A passing UP train..

They are from Emeryvill CA, near Oakland. Took them last night, I was out rail fanning in the area. just playing around taking a few night shots.

In July 1981 I hitchiked to the Ribble Cement Works in Clitheroe (Lancs) to see the sole surviving Clayton Class 17.Formerly numbered D8568, she was in the charge of an Eastern European driver (Polish I think) who proudly showed her off to me and even did a little "run-past"! Luckily she was preserved and can now be seen resplendent in two tone green livery at the Chinnor and Princes Risborough railway....:udrool:

By August 1981 the writing was on the wall for the Deltics and they visited unusual places. On 29/8/81 55009 Alycidon worked a Filey-Newcastle via Scarborough train and 55013 The Black Watch worked Scarborough - Kings Cross!I couldn"t do both,so I had 31275 to Scarborough (passed by 55009 at Seamer) and bashed 55013 Scarborough-Newark.55013's roof grilles were painted light grey - maybe someone could do a reskin? ;)

On 10/1/1981 I made a long trip to London and visited Stratford TMD to see 2 of the remaining 4 Class 15s which were being used as carriage heating units. All but one were (incredibly) scrapped in the early 80s leaving just D8233 for preservation.According to an article in the railway press its hoped to fire her up for the first time next February...:mop:

On the same day (10/1/1981) as I shot the Class 15s I snuck into a shed at Stratford and photograped withdrawn Class 31s 31019 and 31004.These were part of the original Pilot Scheme batch known as "Toffee Apples" because of the distinctive shape of the power controller.Like many Stratford lococ 31019 had been tarted up with a light grey roof and red buffer beams.

A few photos taken from the 1970's of some redundant locomotives, Hymeks and a Warship taken at Egginton Jct near Burton-upon-Trent, Staffs.
These may disappear at any time as my laptop has now virtually given up, so these will be the last photographs I post on this thread.

Cheerz. ex-railwayman.
