Anyone has problem patching 2009 SP4

I have to complaint that every patching takes at least 30 mins, and this one has been go on for 2 hours and just stuck in the middle. Now it seems another 2 hours just to cancel it. I really don't want to uninstall and spend half a day just to reinstall it and patch up to SP3.

Any idea about how to accelerate the process? Thanks in advance. I've checked other posts but didn't find anything useful. And my copy is a clean one without mods.

Hi,

What I did was....

start with a clean install.
.....started Trainz 1 time

Installed SP2
......did a disk defrag

Installed SP3
.....did a disk defrag

Installed SP4
.....took just less than 2 hours

My thougts about the defrags between patches was to make searching for file fragments easier for each patch.

There are numerous posts on here about how to patch and how long it takes.......

It is not stuck, the indicator does not move until near the end of the proccess and don't interrupt it or you will have to reinstall from scratch, it can take several hours depending on how many assets you have installed, it has to go through every file in the database, there is no way to make it go faster it's a limitation of PC's and this patch is a big one as its adding 2010 compatibility. It's also advisable not to use the PC for anything much.

Cancelling will corrupt your install and you won't be able to patch it at all, as half the files will have been altered. If the patcher was capable of returning everything to as it was, which it isn't, it would probably take another two hours.

The best way if you hadn't already started is to Install and patch as administrator (Win7 / Vista) with antivirus and anything else that does on access scans disabled, otherwise every file that the patch opens may get scanned by the AV as well adding to the time. I usually leave it to patch overnight.

it took 1.5 hours to patch with 0 error nothing fails every thing is ok

I am glad to start a fresh install like the topic says to many assets will be to hard for sp4 to be install, but it will be harder for any user to start fresh as we got to install from basic then service pk 2 is a long one than install service pk 3 after words than service pk 4. plus i reccomend to install the add ons after service pk 4. but if i did not start fresh there's waiting game during the day and night thanks for the info
