AnnouncingTrainz™ Simulator 2009 & Trainz™ Simulator X

Very interesting!

I've been away from the trainz scene for a few years now but it seems there are a lot of things happening. I have t2004 and 2006 and just ordered TC3. Looking forward to receiving it and maybe getting back into things again in the future. The TC3 is especially the one I am interested in as it seems to be mainly steam oriented.

Anyway just thought I'd re-introduce myself after these last 4 years (probably more).

Regards Pete

Ну что я могу сказать на этот счет... круто!Я думаю это будет действительно дельная игра.Хотя, пока буду играть в мой TRS2006:)(on russian)
And what can i tell for this....cool!I think this game will be really good. But now, i will play to (or ?) my TRS2006 (on English)

On line Mapping or game playing

Well I just skimmed a whole lot of messages and I don't think I missed it.....
Got to admit that I came into Trainz in 2001 and stayed because Uncle Rob told us that on line "trainzing" was do-able. Well it seems the future has been revealed, and although it is a cloudy picture, I see Auran and in particular other "trainzers" not even saying much about it.
Sometimes when I went into Battlefield, I used to think, how long would I be in here if their were only bots to play. MY answer was all of 5 minutes!
It is my belief that the next big thing in Train Simulators will be mounting maps on servers and letting 30 or 50 "trainzers" go there and run a Railway!
I guess it just blows me away that we could have train controllers, signalmen, shunters, drivers and track workers out there loading carriages setting up the trains and operating them from place to place in real time.
The co-operation and friendship a lot of us have already experienced at LAN meetings could be also part of Trainz. Sadly it would seem it might be possible in 2011, but that is too far off for me, and I am unpacking my old HO railway, and its time to get a model railway club going in Albury-Wodonga once more. You know it will be easier to co-operate with 25 humans here in my train barn, than to talk sense into "trainzers", or so it would seem. The rest of the stuff is brilliant, but actually running Trainz is becoming a lot like playing with ones self, for me
yeah!

Encouraged by TRS-2009

A few months back I expected AURAN to fold their tents and disappear. It looked like any day we would attempt to log in only to find the discussion forum and download site were no longer there.

I'm encouraged that I see efforts to make 2009 backward compatible with at least 2006 since that is what I now use. I have spent too many man days making enhancements to routes, rolling stock, etc., to throw it all away for a new version that would require us to start over. My biggest complaint with 2006 were the sound problems, as compared to 2004 with which the sound was better. I hope 2009 does not require a new high end computer that must have many new bells and whistles to get 2009 to load and achieve an acceptable frame rate. It will be interesting to see the recommended specs for a PC to run 2009.

I'd echo the comments of those who caution against fielding a program full of known bugs like 2006 and never getting around to fixing them. You quickly loose your credibility and loyal following. That is why I remain skeptical of the promises of 2009 and will maintain a "show me" attitude until we see what we are actually getting.

I wasn't going to take part in this any more, but I got to say, Auran have always been up front about compatibility!
In UTC days we heard the same wails of a anguish when trs 2004 was announced. Compatibility was built in where possible but Auran said that it would no longer guarantee it past 2004. The reason was simple, you just got to keep developing with the new technology, otherwise we would still be using ATARI consoles.
It really is inconsiderate to pressure Auran "not to make the sim the best it can be"
I say that because we have thousands of people out there playing Trainz UTC, on their old 5 year old Pentim 4's
They took the decision not to upgrade their machines, and the Simulation.
So we have UTC, 2004 and 2006 out there working and suitable for the machines being used.
If 2009 requires a high spec machine then that is a great thing, because your old machine is going to die one day, and your new one is going to love the new SIM.
Auran should work with the leading specs at all times, and even then they will still be 12 months behind, by the time it is packaged up.
It is your decision to stay with TC3, or 2004 or 2006, so please don't try to hold back Auran from developing the Sim for everybody else.
However I feel very sad for the content builders. It really is a shame that all the 2006 working steam engines no longer work in TC3. And because so many creators have left over the years we will have to wait for some steam engines to be rebuilt by other builders before we get to use them again.
For this reason, I wouldl probably suggest operating two versions of Trainz after 2009 is released, something I have always tried to avoid.
Cheers
Rod

Trainz Simulator 2009 New Tracks

Hi !

Been a while since I have posted here, waiting for a better out-of-the-box tracks system without splined rails at switches/points.

Are there any screenshots anywhere to show us what they will look like ?

To me they are the most important aspect of a train simulator and if they do not look and function like the real ones then I am not interested !

Anybody else with the same attitude ?

I would hate to think that Trainz 2009 would have realistic track with spline based points! :'(
They wouldn't do that now would they ? Really it is too much to bear
The pictures show great track, but nowhere do they show proper points!
Andi has created systems that work in 2004 and with the proper additions to the code in 2009 should fit the bill.
Look here in these pictures People are doing a nice job (ignore the textures they are fillers only)
For those members of Victrainz the thread is here

These are in alpha stage and definitely need more work
But even so they should be perfect if 2009 provides the right code

Please log on to VicTrainz and see what Kkeeley and some of the boys are doing. And you can bet your boots that Andi has something up his sleeves too :hehe:

Hi Rod !

Andi got upset when Auran did not help him make his excellent tracks and switches compatible with TRS-2006.

I had a go trying to replace the default splined switches in my favorite TRS-2004 routes with his but found the task too much to cope with at my then age of 76.

Here is what put me off buying any more releases of TRS, binning TRS-2006 as soon as I had a look at it and have been waiting for tracks like Andi's to be supplied "Out of the Box" !

www.otto-wipfel.co.uk/trs

I mentioned that to Greg Lane years ago, but it fell on deaf ears !

Lets hope that they have learned their lesson now.

Without realistically looking and functioning infrastructure no train simulator is worth the money asked for as far as I am concerned !

Looks like MS-TS-2 is also lacking in that department: www.otto-wipfel.co.uk/ts2

What's wrong with the wheels ? Look at the color of the wheel treads and the top of the rail showing underneath them !

Take care, O t t o.

That's news to me! The Junction Kit objects worked with 2006 out of the box - It was Auran's own objects that had the problems.

It does seem that many if not all of the issues which have stopped one piece fixed junctions from being a practicable proposition are on the fix list. One of the most important missing script interfaces has already been added.

Why Hello Andi :D
You might forgive Otto for his bit of misinformation, as I also thought you had given up on Auran :o
I am extremely happy that I was misinformed :hehe:
However a lot of misinformation is going on, and thank goodness you saw this post. We all should actually ask the individual first, before spreading the bad news, something a lot of us suffer from here at Auran, but hey! its human nature I guess?
Otto it is good to push for something, and I believe that VicTrainz are working with Andi06 ? Well at least a lot of our stuff relies heavilly on Andi's support. So Zec tells me.
So in that I am grateful to both of you.
Lets hope we finally rid ourselves of the spline based points this time.

However I must admit that I am one who can give up on something if it becomes too difficult.
I used to find a great map that had lousy track and spend weeks converting it to Andi's system.
Some of those got lost in upgrades. My best one from UTC never translated into 2004, and even the back-up copy (which works in UTC) will not run in 2004.
It is time for me to try it again in 2006. Now where's andi's 2006 track tutorial? :D
Cheers

And where are his tracks ?

If they work with TRS-2006 and a German TRS-2007 version, I seem to remember seeing being offered somewhere, then I might get the latter to give me something to do while I am waiting for new versions of trains simulators to be released in 2009, having reached the limit of what I can do with RS.

Take care, O t t o.

P.S.: Ignore my PM, normal services seem to have been restored ! ;)
