AnnouncingTrainz™ Simulator 2009 & Trainz™ Simulator X

I am a little worried here.

Do a quick tally and notice how FEW non UK, US and AU trainzers are posting here. Not even a mention of this thread in the branchline fora - unless some good hearted trainzer copied it over.
Continental Europe isn't just motorways, even the competition knows this and has an Euro route - the Lötschberg route in Switzerland - in the initial launch packet. It would be downright dumb to miss out (again) on the European scene - if a brand like Märklin (as German as it gets) can sell H0 scale German locomotives worldwide, Trainz can do so too with virtual models.

....should we leave our weary bones to bleach on the tracts of the desert in vain, then beware of the anger of the Legions!

Really? I guess I don't really recall ever seeing it. And I should know because I've seen the line with my own eyes, and nothing I've seen in TRS2007 looks like it.

WileeCoyote:D

Not that competetion, the REAL competion. TRS2007 is nice, but a dead end nevertheless because of its very narrow localised focus.

Look at the MSTS2 website for renders and see what I mean - eventhough a BLS RE 465 in connection with auto transporter carriages like the ones shown is downright wrong, the BLS uses the trusty old Re 4/4 for the Kandersteg - Goppenstein run. (which you would know since you have seen the real consists.) Errors aside they still go for a fully fledged Euro route in the first edition and that is something worth a thought.

PS! My Re 460/465 for TRS2006 with sg1's textures is still better than the MSTS 2 version :D

Fantastic news. Improved frame rates? Finer grids? Improved technical whatnots? All good stuff! I came on board back in 2003 with UTC and remember the build-up, then release, then teathing pains of TRS2004. Everything smoothed out quite nicely after that I didn't think that I could be more happy. Then TRS2006 came out and I bought it... hook line and sinker. Not my cup of tea. Never registered it and went back to TRS2004. What's this? Something called Trainz Classics? Looked very nice.. so I bought it. More tea not to my liking. Never registered it and went back to TRS2004. I couldn't help it... TRS2004 is just so darn friendly when compared to the others (let alone when compared to the Simulator put out by those other guys).

Yes, I probably could have spent the money more wisely on something else. I really didn't mind though because I've gotten more enjoyment out of TRS2004 than the money that I've put into it. I honestly felt that I was somehow ripping Auran off by not continuing to send them money. First Class ticket? Yes, I buy those yearly.. and they only serve to improve my gaming experience because of the advantages that they offer.

Then I tripped across this thread. Such wonderful news! The "good guys" are back in control? The very same guys who are responsible for the very version of this Simulator that I keep going back to? This MUST be good news. Of course I'll buy the upcoming versions. All that I ask is that you make the overall gaming experience as enjoyable as you did years ago, and possibly improve on that a bit. I'll just have to wait and see how well you do. Until then, you've got some housekeeping to do to keep your fans on board. Meanwhile, I'll just go back to TRS2004 and wait for what looks to be its worthy replacement.

Thanks Ashan :)

Please remember that TrainzDev.com is designed for CONTENT CREATORS. This is where we will liaise with people who make routes, models, scripts, sessions and soon, html pages. One of the coolest features of TS2009 will be the ability to introduce players to your routes by including web browser pages. That opens up a whole new area of creativity for the artists/poets/writers/photographers out there.

Cheers

TH

Tony,

I have a request. Would it be possible to get a screen shot of a track running across a slope? Like the trackage running up to the mines in NorthBay County route. I want to see the improvement the higher resolution grid makes to this situation. Please.

We'll be providing not only screenshots but also an early dev build in the coming weeks. Not sure of the exact timing but as soon as possible.

Congrats on the news. Here's hoping the newly announced versions are good ones. I don't get too excited these days though over announcements. I eagerly anticipated that other new train sim that came out relatively recently, but saying it was a disappointment for me is somewhat of an understatement.

hi trainz team

for the new version do you think it would be possible to make it so that the new game enguine dioes not hold everything in memory like it does in TC 1&2?
thanks

The other way, is saving to your HD, which is very very slow method.

Well, you've answered your own question. Yes, if older content was made according to the rules laid down in the content creation guides then it should work fine. You may not want to use it since with all the changes, older content might not look very good alongside the new stuff.

The problem is that not a lot of content follows the rules to the letter and the rules have changed since the first version of Trainz. So those items need to be fixed to work without producing errors in the program.

Auran has said that they are willing to lead the effort to fix items on the DSL or remove any item that can't be fixed. That is a very big job. Now there is a lot of content available at places other than the DSL. Will that get fixed? Who knows? So, it is possible that not everything is going to work.

I don't know if that is what you wanted to hear but it appears to be the way it is.
