AnnouncingTrainz™ Simulator 2009 & Trainz™ Simulator X

.....Can it be sensible to release TC3 than effectively obsolete it in such a short time? And how will that effect sales?......

I think you're forgetting who the key market is that TC is aimed at.

TC = AU$39.95 - Including one route and aimed at the more casual gamers out there that'll either 'take it or leave it'. There's lots of these folk around.

TS09, et al = AU$89.95 (Approx) - aimed at the 'core' Trainz userbase who cannot wait to get their hands on the 'next big thing' from Auran:D and comes with a ton of content. Less of us but far more commited !

Of course, those of us 'hard core' trains fans who cannot wait until the next major release can gain a little 'glimpse into the future' and buy a TC release if they so wish.

Some more quick answers:

Vern - backwards compatibility is paramount. Our goal is that you can import a 2006 map (probably any version) seamlessly. From there it will be a matter of adding more detailed baseboards or updating existing ones. The challenge will be along the baseboard join and fixing this work is in progress right now so people will get to play with it in July.

Does it mean that we will have the patch in July this year for modification of basebord size?

Just want to add Euphod - you always make my day - thanks.

Ron:o

That's just the booze talking there........:p Oddly enough, I used to work for a fellow named Ron Smith!

I am entertained by all the discussion concerning the use of the name "Trainz Simulator X". It's as if a comet was on course to collide with Earth and destroy the planet, and all the discussion was centered around the comet's name.:o

Carry on.

Enjoy TC3 in July.

Enjoy TS 2009 in Q4 2009 (smaller grid size).:o

This isn't answer on my question

My question is: "Does it mean that we will have the patch (or tool) in July this year for modification of baseboard size?

It works fine under XP, .........
Paul
Much though I hate to challenge the words of a master such as Paul Hobbs, I have to disagree. I have Windows XP, and, when the database is updating, CMP doesn't "work fine" by any means. The endless delays give the impression that CMP has hung up. I think it's very likely that the negative publicity from this has hurt sales of TRS2006.

I have to agree with Louise here; most of the problems people have with CMP are based on perception, not execution. Of course, some do have real troubles with CMP, and that could be attributed to their set up, but I have been using it since it's release and can find no fault with it.

I'm sorry are you serious about that date for TS 2009? We are talking about something to be released 1.5 years from now?

Auran's record of trying to do it quicker is dismal.

This will be a test to see if 'lack of time' was really the problem with previous releases as they kept to their promise release date. So far, every versions had to be follow quickly by a FREE massive service patch. It was all this work on a FREE SP, which made Trainz expensive for the Auran. They cried in their beer every time they had to do one. Hopefully the additional 'beta' time will resolve ALL major bugs in this version. But if this one also needs a FREE massive SP, then we will now know that 'lack of time' is not the cause. And the future of Trainz, I think, would be in jeopardy.

Note: The Trainz Classic run, according to Auran's plans, would have no SPs, because any problems were to be corrected in the next TC release.

Kuju had plenty of time with KRS and they are working on their second service pack. I wonder if making fault free software on the thousand and one different hardware combinations PC is ever going to be a practical proposition.

Now Macs .... ;)

Oh, I expect a SP. But a massive one is what Auran can't afford.

:) Holly Cow :) !!

That sounds interesting guys :) !
Hope you will succeed in your projects : future is great !

Hello

Sorry for the misunderstanding, happens now and again.:)

I'll leave that one for Tony or Rob to clarify.

General opinion is that all the Escape key does is gets rid of the "Updating" message. Try doing any Windows-dependent action like "Edit in Explorer" and you'll see what we're talking about!

Where are you getting this information from? Do you work for Auran? I did not see them give any dates?
