Hello all,

I find this to be some of the greatest news for years for me - one that really got my mind to start dreaming a little again.
And, even if it sounds very strange, gave me some purpose to think there is a future and I should do my best to try hang around till that future comes and can be utilized.

The news about the 5m grid is beyond words almost, I find that to be the most important one from my point - as it affects so much of what I use Trainz for - thank you so much Auran!!

I also hope the 3000m height limit is lifted - it's quite annoying having to build the high country and having to start lower then I should have to avoid the hard coded height limit - please Auran? ;)

The CMP I hear shall be tamed, sounds great, can you please give it some instruction to let me as a content creator have some custom folders for my self and only be a "by choice" tool for me?
You can hide it in the background and keep the database if you want, but don't mess with my custom folders please?
You can limit them to for instance only 10-20 at any given time, just let me have them and not use the CMP to get work in progress in/out. :)

Rest, I love it, I always loved Trainz, and while I would love more support for underground work as well as over the ground - I'm mostly happy with the way I can get a underground system of mine tunnels set up together with on the ground rail systems.

Thank you Auran for keeping the Trainz dream alive, for now it seems like the still perfect platform for the Virtual Cripple Creek.
Now, to fix my life so I can get back to business. :)

A warm but happy girl with renewed dreams and faith in Trainz signs off - thanks all!

Linda

I've been playing Trainz since shortly after UTC was released, and have been a bit disappointed in the last few releases...it feels to me that the jump from UTC to TRS2004 SP2 was one that hasn't been equaled to this day. I've not yet felt the same sense of wonder and appreciation for Auran's work as I did when I got my hands on TRS2004 for the first time.

So I think it's safe to say that I'm hoping I'll get the same feeling when I get my grubby little hands on TRS-X, or even TRS2009 ;)

I will say that the news about the dramatic performance improvements and the finer grid are very welcome, indeed. I don't think I need to elaborate :p

Yes, Yes I would, I would love to see what you butchered this time. Will it be released in America? or will you make us order it off the internet again?

Mike

Im hooked in already. The new surveyor tools makes it sound alot of fun.
The main issue im still curious about is the Graphics Engine.. I havent read all 5 pages to find anything out, but a good success story for TSX would be an updated Graphics engine, similar to the one from KRS.
That, would make TSX a hit once again.
Cheers.

That is GREAT news!!.

DCC Mode - They aren't really considering removing DCC mode, are they? That would be enough to keep me away. I'm a professional railroader and work the controls all day long. There are times that I just want to play in DCC mode.

IPortals - Are they going to address this function a little better in this version? Maybe giving us the option of having an address book of friend's addresses that we could connect directly to, instead of always having to rely on the IPortal/IChat server, that has a lot of issues.

Sounds - We need a way to adjust the sounds in-game.

From a railroader's point of view, you have the best thing going. I've tried the rest and they are no competition for your sim, not even close.

Thank you VERY much :)

Absolutly Outstanding news, I think I will invest acouple million dollars into this after I win lotto this weekend.

Truly outstanding, commonsense has prevailed, I can see MSTSX shuting up shop now, there is no way they will be able to compete with a mature 7 year fully updated fully featured Trainz Sim.

Well done Tony you are going to use the power of the Trainz Community again its got to be good sense to do that. the amount of talent on these here boards is amazing.

DOUBLED THE FRAME RATES already, outstanding thats the wholly grail.

I'm so happy best news all year

Cheers

sorry, but you're totally missing my point about the FS thing -- what i wanted was for the auran people to check out what people say they want in a stable and long-established game like flight sim -- then extrapolate and decide maybe not to add the UFO's, but just to maintain the sim as a sim and define that and develop more content.

is trainz something you really like? it doesn't seem like you want to do much with it. i want to do fun things with everything... including your comment.

Doesn't seem that way to me...what indicators led you to believe there was desperation in their marketing strategies?

Not a good marketing strategy....FS forums are populated by those who already have an interest in flight sims and had purchased at least one...people wouldn't normally go to a FS forum first and then get interested in flight sims.....and sales figures are irrelevant. There are more FS people out there than train sim people....that's just the way it is. It makes more sense to market an app to fill the needs of those who are interested in trains and train sims in the first place than trying to find a way to get people interested in train sims. And what's the point of looking at fs apps that failed to compete with msfs..? Trainz has held it's own against MSTS for years...maybe non-ms flight sims should look at Trainz..

Just a paragraph with no known meaning...:p

This is the target market?....really, what do you base this on?

Actually, this is where your marketing strategy falls flat....your priority doesn't take into consideration the total needs of the available market....instead it focuses on what would be primarily a USA venue. There are many who aren't interested in that aspect of railroading. And, sorry, but the rest is just rhetorical gobbily-gook..

Cool, will this version have Pixel Shaders and Dynamically created shadows like all other games have had for the past 5 years?

Maybe, if it got a TRUE UPDATE! it would be an EPIC success.

I agree with 007007 here.

I will get if it looks way, way, way better.
This is going to be exciting.

...and everybody cries "yepeee".

This kind of announcement did happen once or twice in the past 6 years and 10 months, but I'm getting used to it.

:mop: <- The only remaining of the good old days :p

Hey!!!!

THIS IS SUPER DUPER NEWS!!!!!

For those who also like trainz, could there be some alternative stuff as well? With lots of people noticing the good uses the invisible track is good for, I think adding some other "drivable" content like buses, watercraft, and even aircraft would be nice. Also, I'm not sure if anyone is on my side for this, but possibly a more detailed highway system with interchanges, exits, bridges, tunnels, and highway pieces(signs, overpasses, etc.)? I also want to ask if it is possible for station and train announcements. Some could be in American, British, or Australian English. Also German, French, just to name some other foreign languages.

I know this may sound like jumping the gun a little bit, but its just a few suggestions. I hope I can get backed up on this.

Isaac

P.S. Looks like another few years here at Trainz!

Hi Tony and Great News!

I have one question that has been going from the begining,

Is Trainz X going to have Internet multi Trainz running capability and dispatcher capabilities?

For one it would allow groups of people to schedule operating sessions and they could communicate using Teamspeak.

My group at Trainzproroutes have been asking for this for a long time and it would be great to have op sessions on prototypical routes.

Please say that this is in Tranz X.

Wow!!! This IS really good news :)

Now lets hope all the mentioned features and improvements by Tony will make it into the final release. Good news also on the Surveyor front with the smaller grids etc, a big thank you Tony

Also the content backwards compatibility had me worried when first reading of the announcement but as stated, the older content should work alright in the new versions. Very good indeed :D

Thank you Tony for making this a day to remember

Cheers

A Few Questions for Tony

What kind of system will Trainz2009 or Trainz-X run on?

What efforts to allow backward compatibility? Do you have to have TRS2006 to move content forward to TRS2009 & TRS-X? It would be a crime to lose all the great content that is currently available.

If you read the 'sneak peak' you'll find the following...

"Drive using full in-cab realistic controls or simple “speed” controller."
