Animation Question

I'm not having any problems exporting non-bogie animations from Blender, I don't think it's the exporter that's the problem.

There are no problems exporting non-bogie animations for Blender 2.49b. In fact they operate perfectly in game and they look great in the preview window. However in-game they are black.

Texture disapearing

This is a house with a propane tank attached with an attachment point in 2009 build 41844. Built with 3ds Max 9. The same thing happens when G-max is used. The first picture is when it was first placed. As you can see in the preview window the textures are all showing. And there is no animation in this asset either.

In this picture I have opened the properties window and the textures all show up.
BlackTank2_8x6.jpg

In this picture I have just placed the building again. There's the propane tank with no texture again.

There's no problem at all in 04, 06 or TC 1-2.
I don't have 2010 yet as it's still in the mail. When it gets here I'll test it in that version and post back here.

Did you read this post from further up in the thread?

I Told you guys this started back in 09. See Thread #14 September 2nd. And the object I was having trouble with was made in gmax and no bump mapping was used. It worked just fine in 06 but the animated objects turned black in 09. Which means that blender dosen't seem to be the culprit here.

In 09 I can bring up the property's window up and the black objects textures will show up. This also occurs with some non animated attached objects.

I missed seeing that. I thought it was only related to Blender models.

I'm using TS2010 and I have had no problems with animated or non-animated content, I have emailed Len suggesting he send me the troublesome content for me to try on my machine.

Len, if you send me the GMax files as well, I will try exporting it.

I remembered this thread when I made a trolleypole (kind pantograph) a few days ago with blender, but no problems there. Everything shows up nicely, textures included. I wonder if this problem is with assets of kind scenery specificly, allthough it's stated animations are possible with this kind.

@Peter: I think Len only uses blender not Gmax, but if you find anything that's overlooked I would be very interested to know as well.

@bnsf50: from the pics you showed I'm curious, doesn't the property window in 2009 show the layer the object is on?

You are quite correct, it was 'bnsf50' who had just posted with the same problem when using Gmax and Max9 and I got them confused.

Len , please ignore my email and the comment in my last post, as Blender and I could not exist in harmony, I am afraid I can't help.

Nope there aren't any layers in 09, they didn't come in until 2010.

In another item I had a animated flag, not made by me, it was made years ago by another creator, on an attachment and it did exactly the same thing in 09.

Now I can put the propane tank and flag down by it's self and there's no problem with it's textures. So in conclusion it seems to be a snag in the attachment code of o9 and 10.

bnsf50 thanks for the additional confirmation! That's exactly what happens. If I don't have any animation - just a regular asset no problem in both the preview window and Trainz itself. So it is solely related to the application of animation to the asset. As well, I do not have the same problem if I merely use attachment points such as for smoke stacks. Neither do I have a problem with attachment points used for night lighting.

That's right Peter I only use Blender.

What type of attachment is being used? Using an attachment for a simulated smoke stack I have no problem.

The animations I'm using are related to kind/scenery.

It's just a "kind" Attachment. and the assets are both scenery buildings.

Code:
    effects
    {
      propanetank
      {
        kind                            "attachment"
        att                             "a.propanetank"
        default-mesh                    <kuid:39134:102627>
      }
    }
  }
}

No solution to this. No answer on the help desk either. If I can't do animation maybe it's time to dump Trainz and go back to Railworks with its new version.

The problem persists in 2012. I emailed Trainz developers as well with no solution. I also used the latest version of Blender and the same issue of black objects when animation applied to scenery object. The curious part of this is that the animated object is perfect in the preview window only when placed in Trainz itself is the object black.
