Animation Question

Jan

Thanks for your help. I included, texturing, b.r.main, turned off double-sided: see text mesh below plus the pic which is again black. Again, I should note, I make numerous assets, I have never had this issue with normal asset making. Just animation applied to the asset and the net result in Trainz is a black asset though properly animated. :

This is frustrating. I have some industries with Cemex Trucks I've made - one animated. That's the black one backing up to get cement. On the Rhone is a cargo ship animated with animated props going up and down - all black. Every time I export the inset picture is perfect as is the animation but not the asset in Trainz.

Well, I wipped up a quick animation and, you guess it, exactly the same as what you have. If this worked before, then SP3 broke something in ts2010. That's the only solution I can think of. I've tried a direct anim tag as well as the effect animation option in the config.txt, but the result is the same, nice thumbnail, but black in the game.
I think you should drop an email in the Auran helpdesk and report the problem. Maybe they can fix it before SP4 is released.

Thanks Jan. But, hehe, I have not applied any of the SPs to 2010! I have the original without service packs. I'm thankful you've confirmed the black problem and it looks like the SPs have not done anything to help the issue. I'll email the helpdesk. By the way I'm using Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 1 gb card.

I Told you guys this started back in 09. See Thread #14 September 2nd. And the object I was having troublel with was made in gmax and no bump mapping was used. It worked just fine in 06 but the animated objects turned black in 09. Which means that blender dosen't seem to be the culprit here.
In 09 I can bring up the property's window up and the black objects textures will show up. This also occurs with some non animated attached objects.

Ok at least I know now I'm not nuts. I emailed the help desk as well.

I'm using the same card, luckely, reading bnsf50's response, that's not the problem, nor is blender. Lets see what, or if you get a reaction from the helpdesk, 'couse this is litterally a real showstopper.
Maybe we should count our blessings that bogey animations aren't affected...:hehe:

Greetings from sunny Amsterdam,

Thanks for spending time confirming this Jan. This is a significant issue without question.

For those following this issue I sent the issue to the helpdesk yesterday. It is a significant matter as any asset making involving animation is basically useless.

Are you guys getting this problem with existing assets or just new ones. Is it related to new work that has been made in Blender or is new work from Gmax also affected?

I just checked with one of my locos that dates back to early TRS2004 and there was no sign of a problem, despite that there were two steam bogies with full animated valve gear. The cab has two drivers, animated with arm and foot movements, activated by the pantograph button.

I'm running TS2010 fully updated to SP3. If someone wants me to try a faulty one on my 'puter, shoot me an email via the forum (not a PM).

Peter

This is with newly created assets working with Blender 2.49b. It was also confirmed as noted. Just try a cube, animate it through Blender and create it for TRSS2010.

Unfortunately I don't have Blender. I still use Gmax.

May I suggest that it may be a problem with the way that Blender files are exported to Trainz, has there been a recent update to either Blender or the exporter. I will make an animated box in Gmax and see what happens to me.

Peter

The only time I have come across this; is when I set auto create to 1 for the shadow im in the config file.
I don’t know if this is your problem or not. As I only use G-Max.

Belkenn:wave:

I made two boxes, both animated in different planes, a single blue texture and they exported as a scenery item to 2010 without a problem, still in the same blue, no black.
Your problem does not seem to be related to Gmax or TS2010.

One thing I did find, not connected with your problem, was that I could open my textures folder but could not select a texture, I had to merge something and use the texture from that.

To be clear, the animated asset looks perfectly fine in the preview window of TRS2010. The textures are fine, etc. It's when you place it in the main window of Trainz that it is black. As you can see in the postings this was replicated with others. I'm doing nothing different in asset making. Only when it is placed as an animated object in Trainz is it black.

With all respect, this is not really an Auran problem, if everyone had it, it would be, but I use TS2010, and I can't replicate the problem with Gmax. It seems therefore that the problem lies with Blender, that is the most likely reason. Auran do not provide support for Blender.

Do you know how many people use Blender to make assets? Significant enough to write an exporting script for it. If no one used Blender then there wouldn't be an exporting script. Blender and Trainz are not new kids on the block. With all due respect I think it is at least the developers problem. If Auran is the distributor/publisher I assume they forward these types of problems to the creators. Gmax is not the only tool used to create assets (thank God for that as far as I'm concerned).

Maybe take this direct to the guys who developed the exporter? http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=57664. They may also know what the problem with the exporter is.
