Angled Crossing Gates

Rebel without a clue.
I've had a look around but I can't find any angled UK gated crossings. Are there any?

Thanks
Pete

The only way I know of you can do it is to use "Yard Gate" (which is actually an LNER style crossing gate) x 2 if you want to span an ordinary road and then mount "Red Circle" in the middle. Its not animated, but it looks excellent and very prototypical if you"re doing LNER lines. If you want a single track crossing you use Yard Gate x 1 and red circle in the middle of it.

Take a look through the UK screenshots thread - there are some good shots in there. Could take some time though.

Yep, found it. That looks good. The next question is - how do you capture the screen? Don't laugh, I'm serious.:)

Press the Print Scrn key. The result will be in the Screenshots folder of Trainz. Trainz saves screenshots as .tga files. They're 3 Mbytes in TRS2004 and over 5 MBytes in TRS2006. You can reduce them to a tenth of that size by converting to .jpg format.

Angled UK Crossings

I raised this in a thread UK Level Crossings recently.

Why are there so many angled crossings on the DLS for US, Denmark, etc and none for the UK?

I would hope that some of our content creators could add UK animated gates to some of the others that are available.

Will anyone take up the challenge?

Roy

For sure 100 people will come on with 200 pics to prove the point but
and its a big but, I dont think there are many gated crossing in the UK that are angled, they always manage to twist the road so that it arrives square on ?, I seem to think there was one on the line to the old humber ferry jetty ( south side ) cant remember the name of the village off hand, but the angle was so slight that you could almost say it was not there !!

"Kelly88" Durham Ox LC in Lincoln was a four track 45 degree crossing with the Point Rods carried over it on a girder bridge.Ogdens Lane crossing in Sunderland was a narrow road crossing a double track line with a siding branching off and two single gates on the same side of the crossing. There was a level crossing at Stocksfield (Newcastle-Carlisle) in the middle of the platform with a platform section on rollers (!).Just 3 I can think of.With Trainz we have to make compromises all the time.I guess the number of people who can remember "proper" gated crossings is dwindling, just as the number of people who can remember when the UK had Coal Mines, Shipyards and Car Factories is dwindling...:(

There where angled crossings on lanes/single track roads which consisted of two single gates opened by hand one at a time. But not seen many on main roads. It would still be nice to have some available though.

I'm working on the old GNR line through Lincs, every second crossing (and there were some in this county) seem to have been angled.

oooo! What lines are you working on? Myself I'm currently doing from Peakirk (outskirts of Peterborough) to Spalding and then up to the outskirts of Sleaford. I'm also doing Spalding to March. When that lot is finished in its current 1970's state I plan to back date the whole lot to 1950's and add a small part of the Spalding to Boston Line in and also add in the Spalding - Bourne - Saxby M&GN line, and of course a bit of the M&GN heading towards Sutton Bridge. I've got a few work in progress shots of the line on my website. The route is designed to link in with the DPS 1970's ECML project, hence some of the ratehr weird starting places.

Its a small world! The DPS sent me the various parts of the ECML for beta testing a year ago. However on my old PC it wouldn"t work at all - there were huge amounds of content missing and flashing textures , it even froze the screen so I gave up with it.My (new) PC crashed recently and my entire self built route went up in smoke.I made a backup disc last September and when I ran it much to my surprise I found the ECML beta on it and even more surprising it works!I get a "Thread Exception" message when I open it and theres much missing content but until I can get back to rebuilding my own route I"m enjoying myself by repairng the Beta and upgrading the signalling .Do you think the DPS would have any problem with me posting Screenshots?..:p..PS I"ve got the whole thing merged-ECML, all lines to Cleethorpes and Newark.

At the moment it runs from Cleethorpes down to Firsby. It includes the Mablethorpe loop and the Barney line but I'm currently remodelling the Bardney section to Wragby to make it more realistic.

I've also put in the Woodhall Jnct to Midville section and the Spilsby Branch but it is far from finished.
I've had a spell off to actually run it!!:) I've only just begun getting the locos for it.

I have been blissfully unaware of all these other routes - I wouldn't have started it if I had know how much was being done.

It keeps me out of trouble.:D

Well the ECML Beta doesn"t include Sleaford Skegness. It was one of my favourite "bashes" with the Class 20s thundering through Swineshead and Hubberts Bridge then round the tight curve at Firsby! Ialso walked the old line from Louth to Willoughby Junction and from Bardney to Tattershall.Halcyon days..Anyway back to the OP heres a shot of London Road (Spalding) Crossing.I"ve replaced the signalbox with a GER Signalbox and the road surface with Boardwalk Spline to represent timbers.I"ll probably have to replace the Footpath with something too.

Lewisner, that's a very interesting improvement. Would the level crossings in the Spalding area been of the wooden style like you have done in the screenshot during the 1970's? If it is the case then I'll be updating them accordingly. I think the change in single box design is a good idea as well with that being the GN & GE joint line.

The original creator of this part of the route certainly intended it to have these type of gates as he had Red Circles in the middle of the roads.I took a picture the empty London Road box in 1983 and like most of the signalling on the March- Spalding section it was GER pattern so presumably the gates were the same.I have a video called "From The Fens To The Highlands" and I"ll dig it out and have a look..

I really like the way that looks and it would fit well with my layout. I've tried crossings with those footpaths too but they just dont look right. The driveway sprline looks better but it's too wide for most places.

It's academic anyway as my CMP still won't work so I can't even get the gates.
