A Stubborn spline

Hi Tracksupervisor
Have you tried to delete in wireframe mode? I wanted to change a spline once and couldn't get control from the circles on the surface. Wireframe showed me the roots of the problem and delete worked. I cant remember now if it was a track or object spline.

Tom

By the way, thanks for Illawarra.:Y:

It's annoying but doesn't affect gameplay - just looks weird at the moment.
Just a note - there are only 2 ends to the spline. Cannot grab it by any means.
Adjusted terrain hieght above it and couldn't delete it
When I tried a simple Replace Asset (with say a road) nothing happens
Even tried Delete Missing Assets in an off-chance that might work - nothing
Yeah will persist with all other mentioned suggestions and get back to the forum as soon as I can if there is an effect
Thanx for all the help

What happens if you try to add an intermediate spline point?

Had this happen and the only cure was to copy a bit of terrain and paste over the spline point. Only one of the spline points worked with the paste but both splines are removed after the paste. When boards are deleted not all splines are removed and they then become fixed in nowhere land. I always delete a board and replace with a new board so I can check for any splines left.

...also tried this, but still no luck. Trying all methods without success. Not ready to put a bullet in it just yet though <g>

One other way I've managed to move stubborn splines is related to the height issue (get it to 9.9m or less). What seems to be important is the height of the spline relative to the ground.

It makes a temporary mess of the scenery, but if you use the Smooth spline height tool the ground will come up to meet the spline, which may then allow it to be removed. It's an inconsistent solution but has occasionally worked for me, requiring a bit of subsequent terrain rebuilding.

Sometimes getting the camera view right over the spline helps too, or attaching another spline segment to the one that needs to be altered or removed.

Haven't tried this yet
Seems to be worth a go as I thing the roots of the spline ends are at reference height zero

This may seem odd but instead of spline mode try object mode and see if you can then select it and delete, worked for me with a similar problem.

Or, unless it is a builtin, delete it from content manager, then remove missing assets in surveyor, you can re-install it after its gone from the route.

Or find it's kuid and remove it from the routes and or sessions dependency list.

Have you checked your layers?

Make sure you haven't placed the spline on the Session layer and are trying to remove it from the Route layer; been there and done that a few times...

If that doesn't work, try choosing the Track tools and see if it's actually a track and not a spline. There are some roads that are really tracks which can be confusing...

If this doesn't work, try what Clam1952 (Malc) suggests.

This is worth a try but all I know is it is a catenary wire, but not one I have ever used on my route
(well at least as far as I know)
So as such I'm not sure of what I would be looking for either in name or kuid

Hi all

...and the problem still persists, although as I said in past posts, I think deleting a segment (but which one?) seems to remove the spline. Still working to find which segment though.
I also believe the offending spline may abort the Merge Route function when I try this process.

I could have come in the forum and say something about this way back 3 pages above. But everything that could be done has been said. I have had this several times before. And then, not knowing why, one day the offending spline just goes away. It is a bug, N3V knows about it and so far has not found a solution. Just hope that Tane does not have any surprises of this nature...

Just a thought...

.
One remote possibility.

It has been suggested back in the thread that the catenary could be a "track" type.

If it is, could the spline have a piece of rolling stock attached to it? If so you won't be able to delete the spline before removing the rolling stock if it's on the problem piece of spline, or within two spline points either side.

To confirm the type of spline press ALT-O. This toggles on/off all spline points, except the type relative to the flyout type you have currently selected in Surveyor. You can do this for each flyout to isolate the offending type.

Seen something like this myself, catenary splines are weird. Firstly, they're not (or the ones I was messing with are not) track, they're building: spline (like roads). Also I found it can be tricky to get them to lay along the track where they need to be, had to place it off-centre and them move it as it wouldn't place where the track was.

Not sure I had one that I couldn't grab though, once using the right tool. Life would be much easier if "overhead electric track" existed as a track type which included its over head wiring.

Here are just four examples of splines which are not tracks at all. There are more. However, these odd ones can only be found in the Track (F4) fly-out and could be the cause of the problem. You would never normally expect to find them anywhere other than the Object (F3) fly-out Spline mode list.

If they have rolling stock placed on them (or under them in the case of the top two catenary pieces [rolling stock always seems to place at ground level]), the spline cannot be deleted until the item connected to the so called "track" has been removed.

Can you select the spline at all in any of the tabs and right click it, to get the info?

If so try this? Create a new layer, name it delete or remove, click the question mark then click on the item, use the dropdown in the properties box and change the layer to the delete layer. Then delete the layer, I've used that for splines that refused to be deleted in the past, one being a wall and one being a power line.

In my experience, I was able to connect another spline to it. Then I would add a wagon to the new section and "move it" over the offending section. It did move there and passed over it, indicating there was no invisible car. I did this on routes and sessions, but could not move that crazy section up/down/sideways nor nothing (as object, spline or track). I was able to identify it by trying many things, it was a single rail, but time after, I got the same thing with a fence. At the end I made a small hill over it and modified the scenery. Time after I went inside to look for it and wasn't there! Go figure.
