A Sad End to an Epic Run for Me with Trainz.

but Apple iPhones are more popular than non-apple phones.
A little trivial fact checking. As of November 2024, Android has a 71.42% market share worldwide. In the US, iPhones hold a market share of 56.63%. More than 1 billion iPhones and over 3 billion Android devices are currently active.
That's what I hate, when newer versions break things that weren't broken before.
That does not always mean that the "unbroken" assets were fully compliant with the set standards, and may not have been fully compliant even for the the versions where they appeared to be "unbroken".

I am all for improving the compliance testing when new versions are released and weeding out those assets that will, eventually, be a drain on system resources, FPS and performance. My opinions.

I am still jumping between TRS19 and 22 on the laptop trying to get another model layout done.

Problem is TRS19 runs very well but is getting left behind in 2025. However 25 despite not being graphically much different blows the fans off on the laptop trying to work on a small two section model route with draw distance at minimum and V-Sync set to half!

I noticed the heat spike as well. This version is particularly hard on video cards and GPUs.

If you have a NVidia GPU, try MSI Afterburner. You can adjust the fan RPM curve so that the fans run sooner and faster to keep the GPU cooler.

There is hope that when N3V switches to DX12 there won't be as much of a load on the graphics cards because DX12 operates a lot more efficiently than DX11.

My problem is, I want to get the fan speed down so it's not blasting out. I did find after delving around in the properties TRS22 might have been defaulting to Intel Graphics so I've now changed that to use the Nvidia chip. Ideally I would get a newer laptop but I need to change the main PC later in the year as it won't take Windows 11 even with the registry edit and Rufus trick. So I won't convince the missus to let me get a new laptop and desktop PC!

That makes sense. That fan noise is a big issue for me too. Blasting the fans prevents the hardware from melting but at the same time makes using Trainz unbearable due to the noise.

I know how you feel about Windows 11. I'm lucky that my old Windows 10 machines are too old to even accept Windows 11 and I'll continue to use them as they are since they are used for proprietary things such as control a Roland LX-17 digital grand piano and tablets for displaying music. My main desktop and laptop came from Dell already with Windows 11 and I've spent a boatload of time killing off things to tame it down.

If you want to migrate to Windows 11 using hardware that is compatible, I will tell you what I did.
Got a 12th Gen 12400F (includes fan), ASRock motherboard for under $89 (small form is all it needs), and DDR 5 6000 RAM. All the other parts should be reusable so it should keep the price low. Of course, there may be better prices now or perhaps desired more powerful CPUs, but that is what I did.

Microcrap are supposedly going to allow peeps with non compatible pc's. Too install Win11 in the near future.

Yes I'm basically going to wait and see what happens with Win 11 and the main PC. It's an old potato which still runs most of the stuff I play quite adequately, even TSW and MSFS 2020. As my missus says why pay out £1200 to replace something that isn't broken (until she wants the latest TV of course :) ). I have considered just upgrading as I like my case and it has plenty of drive bays etc. but with a touch of neuropathy my fingers aren't what they were for fine work.

Anyhow back to TRS22, setting the affinity to Nvidia seems to have helped, looked like it was defaulting to the Intel graphics. And another incentive, I don't know whether something changed but despite not having a FCT seem to be getting much faster DLS speeds than 19, where 10 kb/s I considered good!

Wonder if N3V are planning a TRS2025 or 2026, seems to be very quiet on that front?!

Standard business practice. Why advertise your plans to your competitors and why cut off your current revenue stream by telling potential customers "don't buy the current version just wait until Aug/Sept/Oct/etc when we will release a brand new shiny version". My theories.

Most likely. A trainzer friend of mine does. He still uses TRS2004 through TS12 even though he purchased TRS19 ages ago and will never update to the latest version he said. I think he will when TRS35 comes out.
Knowing me I'll have probably pressed the green instead of red across the Styx.

DTG do it all the time with TSW, Peter. Pre-release announcements of the latest and greatest version rubbish.

Mike.
Here’s the announcement for 22. It seems to contain a certain pre-release element.

Yes, TRS22 was put through "early access" with the official release in May. So there is still a few months to go to the 3 year development cycle. I was surprised that they didn't do the same thing this past holiday season. The vibe around Trainz Plus feels like it is ready to be branched off for a new retail release featuring TLR at its current state of development. I don't know if it will include HD Terrain but that would be nice.

Going to use your quote "For other folk who lacked such skills it was a horror show and brought them to the edge of binning Trainz and walking away from it forever".

I have supported this company for many years started with msts then here. I've been a trainz plus user just to support the work that nv3 does. If i use it more then 10 hrs a month thats alot. My renewal is up Feb 1st and for the whole month of jan i have been debating weather to walk away or not. I'am not a big content builder but like to do a little. I was trying to find out exactly how long been with them i do go back as far as train simulator 2009 also brought 2010 and 2012 hard copy of game.
Well i have a week to decide already have it in my budget. Lol the other big thing this week my wife retires Friday.
Just a update NV3 never even attempted to keep me from ending my subscription. If they had someone look back how many dollars i spent not just on plus but content to.

Not sure if that is a criticism or an endorsement.

I, for one, would not want the marketing department (and N3V, as far as I know, are too small to have a marketing department) of any subscription service that I had decided to terminate hounding me for reasons why I left. Those reasons are mine and none of their business.

But even if they did what would you have expected them to say or do? Offer a reduced subscription just to you to keep your business? I would certainly object to that.

Again, N3V is too small to have an employee keeping full time track of how much each customer has spent over the years.

Each of us has our own financial and family situations that decide what we can afford to do or not to do. Your circumstances have changed and you have made a decision that is appropriate to those circumstances.
