No Excuse

Does anyone know wat is up with the DLS???..........been trying to get

stuff off it but it is always fulll......Has Auran forgot about the little man

and have forcefully made people have to Buy a FCT to have acess to it???

Any Info would be greatly Appreciated...

thanx

Dan.

In this day and age of high technology, there's no excuse to need a FCT at all. There is plenty of available bandwidth out there to support all of us and the simple fact is that if you get an item QUICKLY, you won't be in the way very long. However, after being forced to download a heck of alot of new content when I changed to TRS2009, I coughed up the money for a year's subscription to FCT. I figure I should have everything I need installed....

Just in time for Auran to come out with TRS2012 (or some such) and have to start the process all over again.....

Auran must be taking lessons from Microsoft! :hehe:

:hehe: I like you new banner very much, Ed. And I'm not saying anything else but...

"Let trainzers come to me. Foster them! For the kingdom of Klingons belongs to those who hold a FCT -preferably a lifetime one because it works better than any Medical Insurance you could ever have-" ;)

Yesssss, one more thing: I feel honoured when I'm sent down to someone's hellish Ignore List. It's really I pity that some guardians still keep me 'unignored'. :hehe: I know they'd sleep better if they did. Masochism is really amazing over here and it's beating fun 10-0.5.

The promoting-Ed-to-promote side of Alberte

Ya know, in the last few years I've had half a dozen people tell me they "put me on their ignore list", and not one of them really did. Have to laugh at that.

I realise this is a bit off topic, but I only have 1 person on my ignore list (for excessive swearing, and I know I'm probably not the only one who added them).

Back on topic, I am aware that things with the DLS are a bit trickier to deal with for Auran/N3V, as they do not run their own servers in Australia - they are hosted by a company in the US, and AFAIK Auran/N3V probably have to go through said company in order to sort upgrades out.

Shane

EDIT: Should this not be in the DLS,FCT forum?

Hi Everybody.
snip~Thank goodness for that, I was afraid you were going to say that you teach economics.

You are forgetting financing the projects that made a loss (such as Fury) as well. Trainz is not the only product Auran have and at the end of the day it's the overall result that counts, not what the individual projects have made.

Paul ~snip

Once again Paul you have stated what is obvious to most of us on the forum but seemingly not accepted by some others.

Like the banks, BMW and all the other giants of various industries Auran/NV3 are there to make a profit ( note the word.... P.R.O.F.I.T) except on a much smaller scale of course.

I can understand how people can become so attached to the Trainz hobby that it would be easy to lose sight of that, but unfortunately the foregoing is a fact.

The Only Way, Auran makes a profit is from their dealings with us that engage in the hobby they create. Undoubtedly they will charge us whatever the market for their products (including freely donated assets to the DLS) will stand and as long as we are there to pay the amounts they ask these things will continue.

I do not say I support the above system ( that is why I will be on the March for the alternative in London on March 26) but at the moment no one seems to have come forward with any alternative, so with over 1 million going on the march let's hope economist start to look for one.

For once I have to agree with Zato as the world's economist seem to have made a mess of things for all of us and should not be allowed to control anything else but their own domestic house economy.

Bill
NB:- fancy me agreeing with Zato, I really have lost my street cred now:D

No-one told me about this March for an Alternative DLS!

I'll come. :hehe:

Bill, nice to see some Anglo/Hispanic accord between you and Alberte!

One fact that is conspicuously absent in this whole debate is that our hobby of trains isn't exactly the most popular one in the world and we are very lucky that a decent product is being developed at all. Obviously, the 1.3 million copies of MSTS sold weren't enough to warrant the completion of a subsequent version, nor were the 10-20 million or so copies of MSFS enough to keep ACES going.

This is a niche market and we're gonna pay accordingly.

If that, maybe it's due to my most gentle old-fashioned Anglo-Saxon background

mezzoprezzo, Zato I have always had a soft spot for Spain as in a former life I was there with wellingtons army fighting Napoleon until I got hit by a cannonball which really " spread" my interest in the country.:hehe:

Off topic and before this thread gets right out of hand, if anyone is interested in genuinely going on the "March for the alternative" then p.m. me as I am now organizing the Bristol transport sector of the march (got conned into that one)

It could be the biggest demonstration ever seen in the capital so I would not advise anyone to just go steaming up to London as transport could be a nightmare. there are now 22 coaches just going from Bristol plus many more from the surrounding towns. Many like the road transport sector are arranging car travel convoys with 15 full cars and the minibus already committed from our sector.

Anyone in the UK West country area could join our car convoy if they wish as there will be no cost for the journey ( Trainz could join being transport)
:D

sorry for being off-topic, but just thought I would give anyone interested the information.

Retro00064 This message is hidden because Retro00064 is on your ignore list.

Its so great I don't have to see this sewage anymore...

I know you feel, he follows me around screaming about COC with practically every post I make. Kind of like the guy with a sandwich board and a bell screaming "the end is near!"

Seems that every time you look around there he is...:hehe:

I also fully agree with what you wrote on your website, seen it, lived it, dealt with it, still see it everyday...

For some they just don't like the truth, I got an e-mail the other day from one and he kept using the words "I want" like I was somehow put on this earth to really care about what he wants...

So I composed a rather lengthy reply purposely using the words "I want" in every sentence...

Strangely I haven't heard back from him yet...:hehe:

Ignore lists seem generally quite pointless.

I’ve only use it on two occasions, and that’s when certain users posted links which were failing to open, making my system “hang”. Problem since resolved. No-one is now on my list.

Keeping an open mind on all posters seems to be the best policy.

Even those with the craziest points of view may sometimes have something valid and/or original to say (rare!)

Then there are those who make the rudest and most objectionable posts, leaving me wondering if they can excel themselves (they frequently do!)

The art is to simply not bother responding, rather than shut them out and miss the sideshow.

To me it’s all part of the attraction to this fine Forum.

With regard to ignore list, you hit it right on the nail their Casper. I mean everybody knows that me and Zato have had our disagreements but by not ignoring one another I did find myself agreeing with him today.

It just shows, there is peace and tranquility to be found in the world. All you have to do is be patient, keep an open mind and good can come from any situation.

As our local vicar often states, There goes the first lesson.

In the few weeks I have been here I have experienced many problems not only with the DLS but with other aspects of the game itself, some yes is due to my own lack of knowledge of the game and it's inter workings.
But with the volume of seemingly quite intelligent individuals from all over the globe, I have yet to see anyone address this issue as such, Trainz has been out for what approximately 8 years, and there have been how many newer versions since, then it would only seem that the problems did not start yesterday but years before, with that in mind I question where was Auran regardless of how large a company it is. If they are selling and in charge of Trainz then why did they not start to correct some of this stuff long ago before putting out any more new versions, and before someone lights off on me for being cheap and wanting everything for nothing let me say right now the money I paid for the game and the FCT are nothing to me I can easily spend more in the saloon in one afternoon when I do occasionally go there, however I can understand the college guys complaints and younger ones complaints. To them half a hundred bucks plus is a lot, but regardless Auran should have fixed these things long ago, there would probably be much less traffic on the DLS if one did not have to go from page to page to page just to get to the download only to find it is either obsolete, can not be found etc, I realize a business has to show a profit but I think they are going about it the wrong way.
Auran by allowing this stuff for years has lets face it put out a product that while it is amazing is not up to snuff, look at 09' there is more update than program, add to this that content is supplied/ created for free by users charging extra just doe;s not seem right in this instance they are charging for their lack of good business practice, not good like I said I could careless as far as I am concerned money wise, and before I felt too sorry for poor Auran one may want to look at the fact they are still laughing all the way to the bank on the money we all supplied them, and will continue to supply them, they have users over the clothes line and they know it.

It would help if you use paragraph spacing and not use run-on sentences!

Outside of that, a lot of what you are complaining about, is finally being addressed, albeit slowly. It took a change in management within the company to do this, and a lot of pressure from the community.

TS2009 is a far cry from what we had before, and really even with its wharts and growing pains, TS2010 onward prove to be even better. I'm saying this as a somewhat "old-timer" here, and not as a sunblower for Auran. I used the early Trainz 1.0 Demo, and then purchased TRS2004 way back in early 2004 when it was first released. The ride was quite rough with a lot more problems than TS2009 or TS2010 have shown.

Long after TRS2004 had matured, TRS2006 and the Classics series came along. TRS2006 had lots of issues, which put everyone at odds, but we stuck through it and things got better. TS2009 was an expansion and improvement on TRS2006, and included a lot of what improvements were made in the Classics Series. It too brought on more compatibility issues as the error checking was implemented, and other code changes were made. This is a common issue with software as some things are fixed, others get broken. This is why there are releases and service packs.

TS2010 is the latest in the line, and includes more improvements over what was in TS2009, and with the latest service packs, is not such a bad program to use. I can say that on weekends, I have spent well over 10 hours jumping between Surveyor and Driver as I test newly improved sections of my now 7 year-old route.

The FCT issue is another matter, which unfortunately has come up recently. There was always the FCT owner versus the free-downloader. Those with the ticket paid for the maintenance of the server, and helped with the bandwidth. Today things are a bit tighter for Auran as well as everyone else, besides they are finally discontinuing support for the old products! How many companies still support products that are over 7 years old, or older? It's time to let them go, and move on. Like many old products, there are those that still use them, and in the community here, we were warned this would happen soon enough, and it finally did.

As a new user, I would recommend this as part of your purchase to enjoy the program to its fullest. It's only $20 per year, which is really not much when you think about the hours of enjoyment you can have with the program.

If you are having trouble with your FCT, I can't remember if you purchased one or not, let us know. There are things you can try, including your firewall settings, antivirus settings, etc.

So having said this, if you could in a separate thread, list out your issues, and perhaps we can help you. There are many aspects of this program that may be hard to grasp, or perhaps are giving you trouble in other ways. This is what the community is for.

John

As a fairly new user myself I affirm John's recommendation -- it's sound advice.

No, I do not post about the CoC with practically ever post you make. I only spoke up when you were doing or saying things that were inappropriate and rule-breaking.

So, for that reason, you consider me a pest? I wonder why, for if you do and say what is right and rule-following in the first place, then I would not have to speak up about it! ;)

Regards.
