A Bit Annoyed with the DLS

Does anyone know wat is up with the DLS???..........been trying to get

stuff off it but it is always fulll......Has Auran forgot about the little man

and have forcefully made people have to Buy a FCT to have acess to it???

Due to the fact there are too many people using the free option, the server is frequently full.

If you have a look at the Status log (http://www.auran.com/planetauran/FTP_Status_Log.php) it will give you an idea on when it is not full.

Not having a FCT ( I am a student - I can't afford to spend on things like these - and really they should make it more cheap), download speeds are 8kb/s when it is working and that is like 8 am weekdays. It is really annoying...

We spent enough money buying this game, so please provide a better download service... Not one that isn't working 90% of the time.

If we could pay on a daily basis, 6 cents a day is fine.
That way we wouldn't be wasting 6 cents a day when we aren't using it.

If you want it free..you have to put up with free restrictions...
Auran almost went out of business providing a huge download service for free for the last decade..

You want better? Pay for it..If you can't...do without or put up with the 'I want everything free' restrictions. A business is supposed to make money not provide everything for free..You are all lucky they even allow what they do for free..IMHO I think it should be FCT only so Auran will be sure to be around in the future.

I think you should take that advice yourself.

It should be FCT only?! If it was like that from the start, that would have been better actually. That way you wouldn't have one site storing ALL the files, and there would be a more even distribution like there is for MSTS. People would be able to download freely whatever they wanted with no restrictions. The thousands of free download sites (many of them run on a donation basis and just ads) easily outdo Auran's download speeds which I think is ridiculous. Auran is a large company and they should have the infrastructure.

We are so lucky that they provide a free service that sucks and doesn't even work? Mate this is freedom of speech. Stop telling me to stop crying and deal with life cause I am dealing with it quite well. I am just providing my own opinion, which many would agree to.

Auran has good customer support and in my eyes that is what makes them good. However if they weren't too much of a cheapskate to provide 1kb/s download speeds it would make them a million times better.

Auran is a large company and they should have the infrastructure.

That's very misleading.
It is actually an extremely small one with a handful of staff and does not have the resources you are imagining.............

... I bought a 90 day FCT with a discount I got for registring my new copy of TS2010.

For the past couple of days I have been decorating and so haven't used my FCT and so it has been wasting away. Would it not be helpful if there was a way for us to SHARE our FCT's - IF WE WANTED TO ?

I know there would be masses of spongers and leechers but I would happily download something for someone if they were DESPERATE for it.

OR

Maybe some kind of mirror in Europe to spread the load so that those without FCT's could maybe get a better speed, even if it is capped to a daily limit.

Just thoughts and up for discussion.

EDIT: There would be another way if it could be implimented. Wouldn't a queuing system work, whereby your content manager sends the request to the server and it gets downloaded when you get to a certain position in the queue.

I'm afraid I was not alone regarding disappointment with the current DLS policy. See it, dear John!

And I'm always typing from my long-term support and the 2034-dead end position of my FCT.

Of late someone is talking too much of life and learning to live. From my position very close to the sixties, I guess I could advise -May I?- this someone not tell people to judge and do what you can do because not everybody can do what you can. Almost sixty years age is an excellent watchtower to life 1:1. Virtual life -as some seem to confuse and mix over here- has nothing to do with 1:1- Maybe too much modelling, tiny world representation and model making twist and blur perception of reality, andd as commons say: "Reality bites" as well as some dear trainzers over here do.

Not the only one, as I supposed and realize now, unfortunately. And this is a message to the owners of this site, N3VRFailers, not the Prætorian Guard searching for Brute in the Ides of March.

...going back to the status prior to September 2010... since...

The response to our First Class Tickets has been phenomenal so we have decided to extend the sale on '1 Year First Class Tickets'.

I'm having no problem in paying for my doomed-too-early-2034 FCT for others not so priviledged being able to download free at a reasonable limited bandwidth as in yesterdays. Internet leeching is a very subjective controversial matter nowadays. I would be much more worried for compulsive greedy download from FCT holders.

Just so I am not misunderstood, I am more than confident that people realise that Auran / N3V or whoever runs the DLS, are not a charity and can not offer everything to everybody at the same time.

BUT, saying that, if they are to offer a FREE, LIMITED service, then there are some points that I would recommend that they take notice of.

1. If someone wants to download, let them get it as fast as possible when they do connect. That way, they are not tying servers up for longer. As it is, EVERYONE, is trying to get logged on and it's just not working, so queue downloads up and let the speed increase.

2. Invest in a mirror in Europe, it can only help.

3. Don't offer a service if you can't actually support it and make it work.

4. How about offering download credit instead of time limited FCT. That way, servers are paid for but only for the time that people actually use them. A happy compromise I would have thought.


Not being one to whinge, and I hate the sound of violins, but I have been diagnosed with epilepsy which, in the UK means the loss of your driving entitlements for a period of time. Seeing as my main profesession is either driving lorries or buses, I had licences for both, means I cannot work in my usual capacity and therefore have alot of time on my hands.

This means I have plenty of time to make use of my FCT. If I was working and only had 2 - 3 per day to enjoy my simulator, I would be pretty miffed at letting my FCT slip away for the times I didn't use it.

It's like paying 6 months road tax for your car and only driving it on Saturdays!

Well I feel healthier for getting that off my chest.

I see your proposals pretty interesting and assumable from a business point of view and appealing to some new a-bit-annoyed trainzers who joined in here.

Ha ha, not quite, but surely when FCT servers aren't quite so busy, couldn't that be used to boost the free side?

I appreciate that if you, I or anyone else pays for a service they expect that service and yes, I agree that if someone wants it they should pay for it but there is such a big divide. Obviously they want to make money from FCT sales but lets be fair about it, if they created smaller FCT durations and prices, they could probably serve those that stay on the free side quite easily.

Who knows, they may even be able to have it FCT only.

At the risk of preaching, we live in a world that alienates people in so many different ways, I'm just trying to be objective.

what seems to have been forgotten here is that Trainz and its holding company are a commercial enterprise. Therefore they will sale their products including FCTs for whatever they feel the market value of that product is or at whatever price the market will accept.

As the first duty of any private company is to its investors and shareholders (if public) I am rather surprised that Auran/NV3 even run a free sector of the DLS.

Profit I Am Afraid Is the capitalist system of economics which almost all nationalities live under at the present time and until that that system changes everything will have its price with the appropriate profit added.

As we are being told that TRS 2010 is the best-selling Trainz version so far brought out, so obviously the management policy is indeed succeeding far beyond expectations to the benefit of its investors.
