2009- Isn't Another Element To Be Added??

I have had TrainZ 2009 since it came out. I believed that another element was to be added to enhance the visual aspects of the program. I have seen nothing!

There is no information on any such addition. Is this one more case of vaporware promised to sustain sales of the original release with no intention of ever releasing the promised next element? Another waste of money!:n::n::n:

Hey boleyd, you're the one with the inside information, maybe you can share what you know or heard with us? I think it's common (yarn) knowledge that WBE is one of two parts. The second part is either delayed or not due out yet. As far as enhancing the visual aspects is concerned, maybe you mean more High resolution assets. I think at least half the posts on this forum are about that subject, so possibly you could start by reading any 100 of them.

You are very perceptive for interpreting that from my message.

So, where is the promised next element to be released?
Perhaps if someone could answer that.

I'd really love to answer but I'm having a bad day it seems. I guess you just have to weed through the hundreds of posts you will find on this very subject in the forums and come to your own conclusions. We all did.

Were you thinking of normal mapping? If so have a look at KUID2: 86627:2441:1 which has it. There should be a updated texture group that is wending its way through the DLS process but the existing texture group works fine. The version level is set to TC3 since it works fine in TC3 but it is handled slightly differently in TRS2009 so the view at a distance is better. KUID2: 86627:2442:1 is the TRS2004 version which is not normal mapped for comparison.

Are we talking built in assets, Dick, or those made by third parties?
Built in we have Engine Tree Track and Station, and then there are the items made by users. Are you thinking of the EE part of the game? It beats me when that will be out, if at all. It seems prudent to finish WBE first.

...try these...

 Hey Dick, your living in Pennsylvania, download & try these uber-tech high resolution Trinity RDVI 5-bay Rapid-Discharge™ coal cars...the TILX cars run in your area.

These cars have a high level of detail & operate as smooth as your settings can create.

These assets are bump-mapped so you will be impressed by the surface details.

Also the doors & load are animated & dust is created during the dump cycle.

Auto Random Running Numbers(ARN) are featured correct for whatever fleet you get.

If you like long(1½ mile) coal trains in the modern era, you will not find a better simulator.

TRAINZ RULES!

Hi boleyd

TS2009 World Builder Edition properly supports much high resolution textures that previous versions, as well as having much better support for normals maps (except for some bugs), and many other 'backend' or 'unseen' updates/fixes. The world builder edition of TS2009 was designed mainly as a focus on code updates, to give content creators (and users once the content creators began to start making new content for it) access to these new features. Granted, many content creators are still happy making for pre TS2009. However, there are others who are working on TS2009 content.

At this stage, the built in content that is built to '09 standard' is as follows: UP SD40-2, Tree, Station Wallangarra, a road, a hedge spline, TS2009 track, a ground texture (stones with puddles IIRC). To locate all build 2.9/3.0 assets ingame, use the built-in content filter, use the Min Trainz Build No. filter, and set it to '2.9'. This will filter out all pre TS2009 assets.

Added to the above is the TS2009 content that is now appearing on the DLS. If you go to the TRS04 DLS page, you will find a check box for TS2009. Have only this ticked, then do a search (leave the search box empty). You now have all of the TS2009 standard assets that are currently available. These include 50 ground textures, many new tracks, and other various items.

Have fun

Thanks Zec !!!
You helped a newbie like me a whole lot .
I knew there was major changes in visuals.
With a high-end card and a big screen it will be wonderful.
1680x1050 is nice but a littler higher would still be great.

I see that TRS2009 is selling over the counter in Australia for $69AU, a bit steep for what you get, a programme that only supports new features, but has very little new builtin. As it was supposed to have been considerably less than previous editions when announced, thought of getting it when in stores, but I don't think $69 is much less or buying online for $39 plus $10 postage. Either way doesn't seem like good value.
I suppose that when enough 3rd party content has been made Auran will snatch up what they want and use it for the Engineers Edition. Nice way of doing business, very little expenditure on their part. Pity US car makers couldn't have operated on the same principle: build a factory and wait for people to stroll in off the streets and make cars for them!

here are all the built-in HD assets minus the loco; and what they are called.

What one road spline! Looking at the DLS seems that there are no trees. As a good look at the TRS009 forum will show trees made for 2004 & 2006 do not work very well in what's charmingly called "Native Mode" and most users are running in "Compatibility Mode". This would seem to indicate that the new features wouldn't be usable in this mode. if Compatibilty mode is the only viable option at the moment it seem that isn't worth the money.

There are trees. Jankvis has made a small set of them.
Granted, it isn't a huge set of trees. But they are there. From memory, when running in compatibility mode, 2.9/3.0 assets do still effectively run in 'native' mode. However, you won't get as good performance in game, as you will still have the alpha blending, etc, in there.

One busy man making trees for 2009, maybe it's about time Auran actually thought about paying for this work. As I understand it jankvis's trees despite his best efforts don't work very well due to very high poly count and from a distance look like stick trees. So it looks like Compatibility Mode with some improvement in fps or see thru trees in Native Mode with a few very high poly trees and big hit to performance. Still not good value. Not much prospect of TRS2009 EE being released anytime in the next few years unless Auran actually pays someone to make content for it, and that's not likely is it Zec?

Speedtree has been suggested. Chris thought it would work fine but management hasn't brought into the idea.
