Too many versions?

I have 3 different sets of Trainz discs:

a. boxed set "Trainz Collection"
b. Trainz Simulator 2010
c. Trainz Simulator 12

I don't know how I came to have so many editions and I'm not sure which is the ultimate version I should be running. Are they backwards compatible? I don't use this software much (obviously) but would like to start afresh. Can anybody advise please?

They are backwards compatible. You should stick to Trainz 12 for now, It is the latest version.

best advice stick to 2010 as a new version is about 6 months away
I agree with this ... The only reason I bought TS12 was so that I could buy and run the NKP Berkshire, and because it was on sale at JR (pre-SP1, boxed disc, sold out) for $14.99, plus I got a free $20 loco thrown in the package.

I still use TRS2006 as a route building platform (as 06 surveyor has no complicated layers, and it runs on my low end laptop) ... and import my 06 route sessions into 10, or 12.

You can build a route in UTC ... and import it into 10, or 12
