ZecRail Trainz Content

Looks good Zec. I Have a couple of questions, if you don't mind me asking. Is this going to be part of a future DLC pack, and is there going to be a Christmas train for this year?

Thanks all :)

I'm still undecided on how it'll be released (freeware via the DLS, or payware via the DLC system), but I am leaning somewhat toward payware at the moment. It's quite likely that this one will be for TANE only (by the time it's actually finished, I expect TANE will be released lol!).

Sadly, it looks like there won't be a payware Christmas train pack this year. I'm still rummaging around in my mind to see if I can come up with something that could be release as freeware for this year though :) Will need to see what I can come up with!

Hi Zec

Regarding the V class loco, have you done anything along the lines of the interior, or the painting of the loco, because I must admit, I want to see what it is like. How did you get an image of what the cab interior looked like, I do not think there is a photo of the cab interior somewhere.

Cheers!

Hi Aidyn
So far, no. I've been working almost exclusively on the M class 4-4-0 lately, so the V class is back on the backburner (not the first time for it lol!). There's no photos of the inside of the cab, but this isn't a disaster :) The drawings that I'm using actually show about 3/4 of the cab control locations. This plus experience around, and photos of, the PBR's NA Class locos (still pretty standard Baldwin locos, minus a few modernised bits), and photos and videos of other Baldwin designed or built locos has allowed me to get what I reckon is a 95% complete/accurate representation of the cab. There's still a few bits missing though (the main one is the hydrostatic lubricator!), which I need to obtain reference for from PBR's ones (that design is no longer on the NA's, but one or two are still around apparently).

Speaking of the M class, I've now completed the mapping and started the textures for the wheels, which has really improved the look of the loco :) Still quite a bit of detailing to go on them though.

Been setting up normals maps on my M class tonight. Not a huge job, but it does look good on a clay render!

And a 'painted' version with them enabled :)

Excellent Job Zec!

That M class is going well, will the builders plate be the same number as the prototype loco, or is it just a default decal?

Thanks guys :)

The builders plate will 'update' to match the locomotive number, as per all of my previous releases back to the T class :)

I spent today animating the 'bogies' for the M, which in turn culminated in it going for it's very first test run in Trainz! :)

Nice change of pace to finally be able to take her for a spin!

Hello Zec

Just a question, how much of your content is in T:ANE, is it is just stuff by Victrainz.

I see that M class is running along nicely, I personally think you should go for freeware, because people might speculate that you are being greedy, by releasing the M class as Payware, but the V class should be pay ware, all the hard work that has gone into it should come back to you. In cash!

Also... I saw in one of your youtube videos, with R711 pulling that train. there is a K class in the sheds, identified as Z(ec) 301, is this loco a reskin by yourself or a model you never released?

Cheers

Aidyn

Yes, making something payware is greedy, and saying that everything should be freeware so you don't have to pay isn't. Solid logic there.

I'm pretty sure we've already explained the time, effort and resources put into models like these that justify the price we pay to have them...

I think you misread my statement, I was complimenting Zec, but not actually complimenting him, do you get my drift?

Anyway, please do not make this the screenshot thread, we have had enough trouble as it is.

The hard work that Zec's put into the M class means that he can do whatever he wants with it

Thank you for stating the obvious H222, It was a merely expressing my opinion.
Please don't say anything smart back to me because i don't want to start a war again.

Cheers

Good Evening All
As noted a few times, I've not yet decided on if the M class will be free- or payware :)

I don't think most members will find it greedy to make it payware, if I make it worthwhile as payware. Which at this stage, it probably will be, with a few new/special features on it. Remember that T:ANE will include a reasonable number of new, or overhauled, VR steamers, both from myself and Azervich (with work on them, mainly for scripts, from myself as well).

I will say this, I don't really appreciate being told how I should release my models. I do take the decision quite seriously, and weigh up all options for an asset before making a decision. Sometimes it's quick (or even pre-determined, as with the DD's and the V's), other times it's something I leave till later to make a decision on (as in this case).

I think you misread my statement, I was complimenting Zec, but not actually complimenting him, do you get my drift?
I have absolutely no idea what you're trying to say here :| Anyways...

Also... I saw in one of your youtube videos, with R711 pulling that train. there is a K class in the sheds, identified as Z(ec) 301, is this loco a reskin by yourself or a model you never released?
That's likely to be my old 'Zs' class asset. This was, quite literally, a fictional tank loco version of the K class lettered/numbered and painted for 'ZecRail' use. I also did a set of 'Ke' class versions painted up in VR colours, and a few others (the total list was, from memory, 2 tone green; Canadian Red; VR Black; VR black with red valances; Razorback Railway 2 tone green with yellow lining; SAR maroon with silver lining :P ). They were never released, as I've never really been satisfied by the look of the different designs I came up with. There's a render of it here. I might go back to the idea again one day, it's a fun design to play with :)

Back to the M class!

I spent today playing with giving it a little bit of weathering, just enough to represent 'in service' 'road grime' that you'd expect after a day of running (these locos were kept clean, but it was a dirt environment as well :) ). Also done the 'env' and 'specular' maps, definitely looking a lot better now! I'm actually really happy with how it looks in-game!

Note, numbers and builders plates are placeholders :)
