I have a medium spec PC,3.2 pent4 processor,1 gig ram,and a radeon 9300 graphics card i am however planing on adding another gig of ram and maybe upgrading the graph. card, but sometime early next year,so,which is easier on my PC,2004 or2006,i have both but am currently running 2006,thanks Mike

TC or TRS2006 normally is easier on the PC. TC3 would be my one of choice.

TC & TRS2006 use more power TRS2004? Why is that?

Hi John

Why does TC & TRS2006 use less computer power than TRS2004? How do you compare them? Very curious.:o

Based on my personal experiences with a similar PC, 2006 would be my choice.

TC maybe someday when they are done tinkering......

Hi John

Why does TC & TRS2006 use less computer power than TRS2004? How do you compare them? Very curious.:o

A couple of reasons essentially the newer cpus have additional instructions. When you compile a program normally for something like Trainz you use an optimizing complier which knows about and takes advantage of the latest instructions so the newer versions will run faster on a more modern cpu and more modern here means anything after the first 8088 cpu. Practically the first thing you do is query the cpu and set up the program to take advantage of anything going. If it's an 8088 then use this code, if it's a 45 nm Intel quad core then use this code for the optimised routines.

The second reason is as programmers get more experience they get a better idea of what works and what doesn't. There are things called profilers that essentially take snapshots at what a program in doing. So if you see a program is always in a particular bit of code you go through that code very carefully and optimise it. TRS2004, TRS2006 and TC are all based on the same code, TRS2006 is a later version of TRS2004, TC is just a later version of TRS2006 note the build numbers.

You add more features and occasionally replace a bit of code which is why somethings don't work quite the same way in TRS2004 as they do in TRS2006 but on the whole each new version will be a little more efficient; than the old one.

Mind you as people start to add polys to make really neat looking rolling stock so the recommended system requirements mount but if you stick to the same rolling stock and some actually works in all versions then the TC version will normally give the highest frames per second.

There is always the other side as Ed mentions TRS2006 is now frozen and we know a great deal about it so from a content creator's point of view it's a stable platform, TC on the other hand is still under development and being improved and to be honest we don't know it as well as TRS2006 but your question was which can be expected to perform the best and the answer is TC. TC3 has a rather interesting group of people creating content who know the Trainz quirks very well. They will be pushing the developers to create a more stable platform and performing beta testing at the same time so my hopes for TC3 are high. Besides I like the look of the new rolling stock.

I don't keep on the leading edge technology-wise and I replaced a 9300 3 years ago. Your other parts aren't bad, I say replace your video first. I'm sure you have AGP video- make sure you replace with the same.
