why we talking about TS 14 when TS12 still has major problems

The Rocker Trainz Veteran
We need to fix TS12 before moving on to TS14. TRS. 2004 had to have many patches to finally get it to run smoothly. This is what has to be done with TS12. I for one will not purchase anymore future trainz programs. They are moving on without correctly correcting there errors . And they passed this on to the consumer. This is wrong. I call this passing the buck.

I asked this also ... Are there going to be any more updated SP's for TS12 SP1 ?

Or is TS12 a done deal, abandoned ... and the new ball of wax is now TS14 Kickstarter ?

When I first saw the NKP Berskshire, I was almost sold on TS12, and was ready to buy ... once TS12 was completely fixed ... now there is no word on further TS12 update SP's ?

All I can say is if TS12 is not patched further ... TS12 sales will drop off to near zero, as people will wait, and hold off buying TS12, in liue of TS14 Kickstarter

Think yourself lucky. Mac Trainz got absolutely no updates before work was started on the next version (yes, I'm still banging on about this).

Will any version of Trainz be correct and fully functional as a piece of software?

I doubt it. I think Trainz is an 'ongoing experiment' subject to the ever advancing progress in technology with which Trainz software programming has to keep up with. I doubt if we will ever see a 'finished product' in the foreseeable future.

As far as I am aware there is nothing wrong with TS12 other than the problems associated with updating old assets, N3V and active colaborators re working slowly through this problem. Additional work needs to be carried out on payware either by the original authors or others who have permission to do so.
To my way of thinking what has been carried out recently is probably due to the need to standardise ready for the next version, but we will wait and see.
I have this past week carried out a completley new install and imported my old content from previous versions together with my own content.
This install was 100% successful and my rout works fine.

I think TRS2006 had all it's bugz ironed out.

I believe that TS10 has very few bugz.

If the bugz in TS12 were ironed out, with further updates, I would buy that version, also.

I don't know who was blind, when they introduced the built-in speed twees, such horrid looking creations.

I'm 69 years old I’m not going to TS14
I was disappointed with 04 because of the manual turntable.
I think the code was their but Auran didn’t finish it.
and poor AI. I would have stayed with 04 except for that.
TainzObjects was simple and EZ to use. A wonderful tool for organizing

For some reason I didn't use 06 much. I remember now, it was the
CM nightmare for fixing 04 assets. I miss TainzObjects.
When in surveyor, because I could not organize, I could not find the assets I needed.
I spent so much time trying to fix assets I never did use the new turntable rules.

TR 12+++
NO locked switches
NO speed trees.
Single player only version.
Haven't used 12+++ much and again CM nightmare of fixing 04 ,06,10,assets.
AssetX ok but still have trouble fixing splines.
Stupid me. I have payware I haven't even looked at, let alone actuality ran any trains.

Well any way Ill stick with 12 and hope for the best.
I have 100's if not a couple thousand faulty, missing assets.

Nope not again!

Nailed it right on the head Damon as I couldn't have said it better myself. One issue is while the weaving of cars has been curtailed drastically, it still happens on occasion. Another issue is the bell still sounds on all the locomotives even when they are not being used. I don't know why Auran/N3V has not fixed this!!!! How is it that they can only authorize the horn to be activated in the locomotive that's operating but allow the bell to sound off in all the locomotives. That's not realistic at all. Third issue is allow the copy/paste to go for the 5 meter grid. We can fill the 5 and 10 meter grids but not copy and paste them. Also they need to allow you to fill and copy/paste at an angle. This would be extremely useful on gradients and curves for railroad tracks. Fourth, we need traffic to use all the lanes on the road, not just the lanes next to the center divide as well as set the intersections up to randomly have cars go straight, left, right and make U-turns. Fifth issue is that Content Manager has been prone to crashing along with Trainz itself, causing an unusual amount of database repairs and updating. I even one time had the Trainz Diagnostic Tool open up on me. The game is no different than the 1998 Trainz 1.0 release. It may look better and run different but it is still the same core game just updated to work with new video cards and newer windows. The Auran Jet 3D engine was originally made in the 90's for a landscape design software. New games get brand new 3D engines for the higher direct X versions and are capable of creating shadows/shading but in Trainz you must still make your own shadow model and render your own shading. It's really a joke if you ask me. If it wasn't for artist/creators taking the extra steps this game would look like complete ****. What N3V is doing is just making an upgraded version of the old Trainz and charging for it. Let me put it too you another way. Free to play games like War Thunder and World of Tanks have a superior 3D engine which makes the models look great. If Trainz followed the same idea then creators could shave off hours of extra work and release more content.

Funny how all those so called problems don't happen to everyone. My TS12 doesn't crash, CM works fine too. Not that it's perfect, nothing is, but it's hardly the disaster the some make it out to be.

Well when Joseph Ramos also known as Joram24 also says the exact same thing, (as I just relayed his message from RRMODS), a well respected payware and freeware content creator who's been around in the business since 2007 and probably longer than that, then you know that it's a legitimate point, plus there's a lot of content creators who have left for that very same reason and there's fellow Trainzers out there who would concur.

If it wasn’t for ALL the content creators most if not all games / simulators would fail.

Microsoft discontinued FSX.
Until Lockheed-Martin took over was supported by a independent web site and content creators.

xcrossi.

Service Packs = No money
Bug Fixing = need money
New Version = gives N3V money

Forum = no good at economics, even super simple stuff

I'm sure N3V has to have some money. It's not like we want them all at once but gradually. It seems that it's regressing rather than improving other than the display. Besides maybe it's time to invest in a new 3D machine so content creators use less time making content and release more, which would also lower the prices.

Name me a single software developer or corporation that waits until all the bugs in the current version of their software/game/OS/etc are fixed before they release the next version.

Microsoft are still releasing patches for Vista, Windows 7 and the various current releases of Office. Why should N3V be any different?

Without new releases, whether or not the previous version is working "perfectly" or not, there is little cash flow to keep the development going.

Incidently, I have experienced no problems with TS12 SP1.

I completely agree with pware.

To add to that:
I stopped experiencing crashes and problems with TS12 when I switched from my 8 year old PC to a new PC. There seem to be a lot of people on this forum who expect their PC that was running 2006 without problems also to run 12 without problems, but forget it requires a bit better hardware.
