Why pre-caching?

For context, randomly my game will pre-cache every single asset I have in my content manager (over 700,000.) This usually happens once or twice a month and can go on for hours without letting up. It'll pre-cache everything and then get stuck trying to pre-cache locomotives and rolling stock for hours. I don't want to wait over an hour for my game to pre-cache my content just so I can take a screenshot of a reskin and close my game. It's also especially infuriating when I can view the assets in content manager as well as preview them there just fine, yet I have to wait for them to pre-cache so I can place them down on a route? What gives?

I'd rather have Trainz take a slightly longer time processing each locomotive and freight car I place down than take two hours trying to scan through my library of hundreds of thousands of assets to "pre-cache" them, only for me to play the game a total of ten minutes to get some nice screenshots and log off to go do other things. I don't have the time or patience to wait hours for this process that apparently doesn't get sped up with an SSD. Disabling pre-caching would be nice too!

The pre-caching thing is annoying, I agree wholeheartedly! The most annoying thing is the program, this is TRS-PLUS by the way, will repeatedly pre-cache then complain about not being able to pre-cache obsolete packaged assets. Content is pre-cached to speed up loading in Driver and if there are any content changes or updates, these have to be reindexed and pre-cached for use later on.

I found that if I run a DBR, this seems to speed up the pre-caching process.

You don't have more than 700,000 assets installed. This is the total number of assests indexed by Content Manager that is available to TRS19. Your total number of installed assets is listed as a smaller number. On my system, I have 253,023 installed out of 805,311 total.

Since I live mainly in TRS22PE, I had to try both TRS22Plus and TRS19 Platinum to see what if anything I was missing. Since I hadn't been keeping TRS22Plus up to date, I first had to spend the day going through more than a dozen updates and hot fixes with each one triggering a validation sequence. Now that that has been done, neither one is doing any excessive pre-caching, just the normal first time pre-caching.

Since I don't collect routes made by others, I mainly work on my home-made routes, so I only have 83,369 objects in my TRS22Plus and 65,488 in my TRS19 Platinum. My TRS22PE tops out at 83,540 out of 778,531

Content Manager shows the total of installed parent assets as the lower number, and total installed assets plus dependent assets as the higher number. So the total assets installed is the higher number.
