Hello again. I got Trainz 2010 just about a year ago and I haven't been able to play it because no computer we can find has the right specs to run it and ours doesn't have a good enough processor. All I have to say is I might be selling it soon if I can't get a computer with a 3.4 GHz processor to run the dang thing. I only found 1 computer with a 3.4GHz processor but it was a $1000 Laptop. :(

For the same distance settings and assets TS12 uses fewer resources than TRS2006. If you have a dual core processor and most are these days it should run fine. Lap tops aren't really made for running applications such as Trainz you'll do better with a desktop with a separate video card.

I have a FX 2.61ghz single core 7 year old computer 8800gt video card that runs 2010 just fine including the large routes with fps in the mid to high 20's. I have the sliders set at mid range.

True enough. I'm running TS12 (TS2010 before that) with a 4 year old 2.7Ghz dual core processor. That said, you also need sufficient memory and a half decent GPU if you want things to look their best.

There numerous issues with running Trainz on a $1000 laptop. These issues range from slow 5400 rpm and less hard drives, to slower processor speeds due to thermal cooling and power settings, right down to the video chipset.

You have to remember that a laptop is not really meant to run high-end applications like a desktop due to the reasons mentioned above. They are for remote light use even though the specs of laptops is encroaching upon desktops in many areas.

If are interested in a laptop for Trainz, check out the more substantial Alienware machines, which use discrete video and sound as well as real processors. The price is also more substantial too like 3 times what you paid for your current machine.

I have an Alienware M17x that I got last March. This machine handles both TRS2010 and TS12 just as my desktop does. It comes with 8GB of RAM, the ATI6850 video card and a decent sound system. There are also two 640GB drives RAID'd together to give me 1.2TB of space. These drives too are not the normal 4500 or 5400 RPM laptop drives. Instead they are 7200 RPM Seagates, which really are fast.

I'm running Trainz 12 right now on a duo core system with few problems, I don't think the OP has a valid argument.

I agree, Ed.

I think this has a lot do with a) being a cheap laptop, and b) bad video chipset.
