WHY CAN'T I D/L?????

Okay, this is getting ridiculous! I'm talking about TRS04. May 16 I purchased a First Class Ticket for a year. It was immediately activated and I downloaded several items with no problem, including 'Port Ogden & Northern 1a'. The next day I tried to D/L an item (for TRS04) and immediately got the 'This web page cannot be displayed' window the instant I clicked on 'download (helper)'. Nothing had changed from the previous day to my knowledge, and yes, I am registered, signed in and all the rest, otherwise I could not have D/L'd the day before. I have emailed Auran (using the correct form) about five days ago but have received no reply. Please, can anybody shed some light on this?? My FCT is ticking away.

Chill out westa, I would not get to agitated, it only serves to halt your progress, besides, no one else is really that bothered about it. Have you tried using mozilla firefox? Have you attempted the trivial operation of deleting your cookies and temporary internet files?

I think you should approach the problem in a new light.

The servant side of bernie. :)

No reply is because Auran do not consider any one with TRS2004 or earlier versions customers anymore, and will refuse to answer any helpdesk emails from members who only have TRS2004 or earlier versions.
Wether Auran like to admit it or not we are all customers no matter what version we have, even the very earliest version of Trainz, as only one part of Auran (Auran Developments) was liquidated.

But have you done what Bernie has suggested? If you're getting page can't be displayed, try waiting for say about 20 - 30 minutes.
Westausssietoo, are you on dial-up or broadband?

Hi, Thanks for the quick replies. This is frustrating, but sorry if it came through in my post. I have deleted cookies etc and restarted my PC. I'm on broadband. I guess I'll try Firefox next. I could try uninstalling TRS04 and start over but that may not work, and I don't want to lose what I do have.

Don't do it!

Don't uninstall, it could make matters far worse! This is something else (if only I knew what!) so try Firefox as suggested.
I have had trainz since Trainz through UTC and 2004 and have never bought an FCT - I have never been stuck for downloads either....

As has been said, Auran miss the point, we are all customers. But maybe they take the view that our 'warrantee' has run out... after all, most companies only do it for a year at best.

It must be very frustrating when you buy something like an FCT - and this is new so I assume under warrantee - then find it doesn't work. We all know the staff have been reduced at Auran but when you buy something new and it fails straight away they should help, no matter which version of Trainz it's for, as far as I know FCTs do not have to be associated with each individual Trainz version.

I downloaded and installed firefox, and when I tried to D/L something I got a message: "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address because the protocol (trainz) isn't associated with any program". I'm wondering if that's the firefox version of "This webpage cannot be viewed etc"?

Ah, it isn't quite communicating with the Download Helper correctly.

Angelah - agree they ought to support the FCT but it is common practice in software development to cease to support older versions (see MS and windows). Makes little sense for them to support something that makes them little money. Of course the helpdesk is far slower these days anyway.

Anyhow sounds to me like IE wasn't communicating correctly with the DLH. Firefox appears to think that it should open the link rather than opening DLH and I suspect IE is doing the same. Not sure how to fix it mind!

Westaussietoo, I don't want to (nor should I) replace what Auran helpdesk isn't providing, but I would suggest backing up all the stuff in the Auran folder, if possible. If not, I would suggest backing up all the Trainz related stuff that you have downloaded, added to.

Check to make sure that you're logged on. DLS is a separate cookie, so you may not have the DLS activated anymore if you lost that cookie.

 Claude

I would suggest, and this is just that - a suggestion - that you log into the Planet Auran part of the site, and put in your username and password again. This hopefully will force a 'reset' of your account, and enable your FCT to resume working.

I am not sure what the problem is, but I have been using TrainzAgent for many years without any problems. It will also download any known dependencies.

Only 1 thing to remember, it will only download 100 items at a time :hehe:

Hope this helps.

Hi Westaussietoo,

I am having the a problem with the First Class Server too.

At the begining of May I noticed TRS down loads were very slow ..... Ah! My 1st class ticket has expired! So on the 4th May I purchased a 1st Class ticket and activated it.
Ever since downloads just keep 'retrying' until I cancel the down load box.
Now I have another legal copy of TRS2004, this one has no First class access but happily downloads the items that the 1st class server can't!

I have just gone to the trouble of installing TRS2004 on my 'risk' computer, ( no vital information kept on it ) turned off ALL internet security and tried downloading from the 1st class server, still keeps 'retrying'.

I am sure the staff left are doing their best. but when some one sells you a service to give faster downloads you expect it to work!

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions. I'm able to download via FTP, however I have another question. When downloading locos or rolling stock, they show up in the list in surveyer and in the railyard, however when I click on the item and then click on the track to place it, nothing happens. This happens most of the time. Could someone explain this to me. Thanks.

It usually means you have not got all the dependencies required for the rolling stock. Since you're using TRS2004, you can take advantage of Trainzobjectz to see what dependencies are missing and even get it to search the DLS for them.

Like Craig, I also use Trainzagent to download things by FTP from the DLS. It's faster and more informative than the Download Helper. It works out what dependencies are needed at the time you're downloading, so there's usually no need to go back a second time looking for missing items.

I can say that whatever your problem might be, it hasn't been due to the DLS server. Over the past couple of days, I've grabbed nearly 800 recent items from the DLS, without the slightest hitch.

Thanks. I.ve tried to D/L trainzagent but I get the message "the file type is unavailable. The file you are trying to access has been blocked because it has an invalid file type" What am I doing wrong?

You are doing nothing wrong, the hosting company for TrainzAgent does not allow to download files like .zip etc. and the file you want is neither of these below. The error message says:

The file you are trying to access has been blocked because it has an invalid file type.

Valid file types are: .htm, .html, .gif, .jpg, .png, .js, .css, .jpeg, .txt, .shtm, .shtml, .cgi, .pl

Re your other problem with d/loading I can not help you as I only d/load via FTP and this is working for me. I also have a 1st Class Ticket and I still get reasonable d/load speed too.

Cheers

To Seeseeme,
You quoted this in your post :-

When I went to d/l this utility but got the same message. I am not keen on signing up for umpteen different sites so wondered, if the file is not a zip then why won't it download?

Angela

I tried downloading trainzagent and I got a message saying "Trainzagent says file type unavailable. The file you are trying to access has been blocked because it has an invalid file type".

SORRY, IGNORE THIS - DIDN'T REALIZE THERE WAS A SECOND PAGE ALREADY
