Whistle Problems

I read the tutorial on how to make your own whistles in Trainz (I'm using 2010) and made one from a recording I took while at Cass. The whistle I created works fine if I'm in the cab of the loco I'm operating, but complete silence when I leave. Also, the bell does not work at all. The files are labled horn.wav; horn_loop.wav; idle 1.wav as (I'm pretty sure) they should be. I also checked to make sure they were all in mono, not stereo. I've been using Audacity. What have I done wrong???

This sort of thing usually means the wrong sample-rate has been used. This is something set in Audacity.

I found these parameters listed on the Wiki. See if you can match them for your .wav file:

Code:
Bit Rate: 352 KPS
Audio Sample Size: 16 bit
Channels: 1 (Mono)
Audio Sample Rate: 22khz (or 44kHz, but it doubles the file size for no audible improvement in sound quality)
Audio Format: PCM

They should also be uncompressed.

Still having issues. I went back into Audacity and fiddled around with some things, as you suggested. The files are all 16 bit PCMs, 22khz, and mono. I could not find any information on the bit rate itself. Where might I locate that? The file sizes themselves are as follows (in case they need trimming):

horn: 8.11mb
horn_loop: 498kb
horn_start: 37kb
idle 1: 1.09mb

I also double checked to make sure I actually committed the asset after making changes (I've forgotten to do that before).

PS. The asset also has a 3.1 build number, in case that's relevant. From what I understand, that should work fine in TS2010 (especially since I use the Content Creator to create the asset).

If you change that to 2.9 by using Edit in Explorer rather than CCP, you'll be able to upload it for people using TRS2009 and above to use.

It looks as if you haven't patched Trainz 2010. The latest build for it is 49933. (49938 is higher but it has Multiplayer and drops Compatibility Mode). Patching may help solve the problem.

My build number is up to 49933; however, once the game boots up, it does say there are scads (2000 and change) updates available...I take it I need to get busy updating?

Also, I have changed the asset build number to 2.9 so others can use it once I get this whole thing figured out.

Those updates are content updates. You don't really need them but if any are items you use then it's probably best to update them.

I'm afraid I can't really help much more with the whistle.

Kieran.
