Where do you get International terrain data for DEM?

I'm looking for a source for Japanese data mostly, but where do you get your data from wherever you are in the world?
For American data I go to the GIS Data Depot.

How about England, Asia or South Africa? Let's make a collection of all the sources we know, okay?

For my sailing simulator I use srtm2 data
http://www2.jpl.nasa.gov/srtm/index.html

Third panel down with link. srtm V2 released.
SRTM/VERSION 2/SRTM3
Eurasia I think which is for UK, Europe and a lot more I think.
There is a also a world map detailing the areas available in one of the ftp boxes.
Probably you know the link but may be useful for others.

How do you use the SRTM files in MicroDEM? I've only worked with the standard files from the Data Depot.
Is there another tutorial to cover this?

MD can read SRTM DEMS directly either zipped or unzipped. Open the DEM from the file menu just like any other. These are long/lat grid DEMS but for most operations this should be transparent to the user.
