What's going on here then? - BR 9F Evening Star & Black Prince

All speculation. Neither of us have the sales data from N3V and their customers to prove our points either way. Same with your claim that this decision by N3V "makes no logical sense" - neither of us are in the business of selling Railway Simulator software, they are.
I am also not into the business of buying from n3v any more at all, which proves my point.

While we're at it, we might as well start making Star Wars movies exclusive to disney plus and not sell dvd copies of the films anymore. Oh wait, but then Disney would make things even worse for themselves.
The main reason I became a Disney+ subscriber was to get access to their exclusive subscriber only Marvel and other TV series. "Ms Marvel", "Alien Earth", "Agents of SHIELD" are amongst my favourites.

When you start up your own business creating and selling software for a small niche market, I will be very interested in seeing your sales strategies and how they pan out. But until then we are going to have to disagree on our opinions.
I know you feel compelled to reply to every post on this topic, but that is pretty lame.
but it hardly proves anything.
Well exactly, you put it so well about much of the responses.

At the end of the day people are on here becuase they are supporters of Trainz, and they have their own opinions. Not sure why every alternative opinion has to be shut-down by the same 2 or 3 people. It just comes over as 'I'm right, I'm right' over and over again, supported by a load of whataboutery, and flawed analogies.

You are absolutely correct. We have a forum here where we can all freely (and calmly) express our views and can (politely) disagree. Expressing an opinion does not make any of us right or wrong. In the end, it is N3V who make the decisions based on their circumstances, sales data, plans, limitations, etc. You can agree or disagree with what they do but it is their decision to make.

End of story as far as I am concerned.

Hmm, how is Alien Earth? I would watch it on Disney+, but Disney+ just doesn't like me for some reason.

I mean, you definitely have a point. I and other users understand that N3V Games does need money to continue improving the game and the franchise, however, I personally think that Trainz Plus Exclusives is a very questionable way to go about it. I'm not saying N3V are horrible and anti-consumer (even if some of their practices are questionable) and I do believe others who share my perspective of Trainz+ exclusives aren't saying that either. What we're saying is that some decisions can be more harmful to customers than the business itself. If a business decision divides customers, while only benefiting the business itself, then it really shouldn't be made as a business, and the customers are supposed to both benefit from decisions the businesses make. Trainz+ does offer sweet benefits, however it also comes with a cost, like a trap right out of an Indiana Jones movie. It's a gold ingot, but it's sitting directly on a trap that will only allow you to take the ingot if you are willing to sacrifice your good arm for it. You can take the gold and give up your good arm, but is it really worth losing your arm over?

N3V, formerly Auran, has always made some questionable decisions that have left us scratching our heads for days afterwards. I'm not sure that it is intentional but sure looks that way.

While many people don't like the subscription model, some people do and unfortunately this is the way software is going now. SAAS has been in place for many years initially in the corporate space. When software developers ran out of corporate customers, they looked at the lucrative consumer market and it was out of this we have what we have today.

The concern is always for losing access to data when a subscription is canceled. There is also a chance that what was once a truly free program ends up being gobbled up by a larger company and then becomes a paid program or is still free with a catch as happened recently with Eagle CAD. Eagle was, I'm saying this in the past tense, an excellent and easy to use free CAD program. A short time ago, AutoCad purchased them. They still offer the software for free but with a catch. All of your creations can only be saved on their server and cannot be saved locally. Should you want to download your models, you have to pay AutoCad some sum to download the file.

The other catch with some subscriptions is required for ongoing support. Avid, the AutoCAD and Adobe, of the video and music production world, sells a fully downloadable versions of their software, however, outside of an initial purchase and support period, software support requires purchasing an annual support contract even to receive any kind of updates. The company does offer community forums, but as a Sibelius user, I found the members rude to newcomers asking basic questions because their user manual is as useless as a brain fart. Contacting the support group via an online form requires purchasing a one-time support ticket for those that require access to tech support unless the user has a contract.

To reiterate the point Chas made further up this thread, and which have been ignored by the usual apologists for N3V, there are critical models here which are now (permanently?) hidden behind a Gold paywall (class 47, class 08, class 40, revised Mk1 coaches) which are essential for anyone modelling UK trains from the 60s to the 90s and cannot really be used in any Session uploaded to the DLS because they're not available to the whole community. Essentially these models are 'on a shelf' and cannot be adopted by the wider community (the fact that N3V have a poor record in developing their models and rectifying errors is an additional burden). As far as I can tell, there has been a distinct lack of enthusiasm in the UK Trainz community for the BR Blue pack because of this issue. Ultimately, people want to own not rent!

To reiterate the point again, you pays your money, and makes your choice! If you don't like the other freely available models (Not like there isn't any other class 47, class 08, class 40, revised Mk1 coaches out there), then feel free to make your own or get someone to agree to make them, This post has now been nearly going on for a year. Just count all the stuff we have had added within that year to the subscription program and not paid £30 for each one of them, unlike certain other Failworks DLC with incorrect bugs for free!

Oh, and @ Amigacooke, whats is this years (paid for) version of DTG's TrainSimWorld XX called, which is only free for a short period? Last I heard, some of the paid DLC that people own, will not be able to be ported into the latest version. At least we (Trainz) don't have that issue. Toot, Toot!

TSW was a lost cause from the beginning. At least TSC dlc can be bought and a there's quite a good amount of dlc (mostly 3rd Party) that beats a majority of Trainz's dlc. Also, Epic games isn't even that popular of a platform any way (still doesn't excuse dlc not being able to be ported to the upcoming TSW release).
