What might be happening tomorrow? (Win TANE Collector's Edition)

I would like to take a crack at 'my xmas gift' Murchison for Tane coming available at christmas, still my favourite!

Michael (sirgibby) phoned me earlier this week. He's still working hard to get Murchison 2 for Tane out as soon as possible, but unfortunately it won't be out before, or around Christmas.

By the sounds of it, Murchison 2 for Tane is getting a far bigger overhaul than I originally thought. (Michael could have done a quick job by just fixing the original faulty M2 content to Tane standards). A lot of the original content is being replaced with newer content.

Don't want to give to much away, but it's going to be a slightly younger era, with a lot of newer content that has only become available in the recent years.

I know an awful lot of time, effort & energy is going into this M2 overhaul, so it should be really great when Michael has finished.

The more time he puts into the overhaul, the better it will be, so please be patient.

Hang in there, all you fellow diehard Murchison 2 fans, 2017's the year...

Happy Trainzing,

Cheers, Mac...

I'm pretty sure car dealers don't allow you to drive a car free for a month :p (otherwise I'm trading my car in and visiting Mercedes this month, BMW next....)

I'm also pretty sure most "demos" are not feature complete and content complete for a month (happy to be proven wrong on that...)

It would also seem that a lot of people disagree and are happily paying their $4 to access this item. We're not forcing anyone to pay the money, just providing an option (which appears to be rather popular!).

And the last piece on this - it costs money to provide free downloads. Based upon the Trainz V1 downloads, we would have broken our servers offering TANE free and pissed off a lot of people.

I'm sure a lot of people will be happy to pay $4, but I fear you may be breaking the CoC with your last comment (though N3V does of course have the final say on what is a breach).

Nervertheless, Merry Christmas you lucky barbie using people, have a great one!

Really though its a good idea
lets you test whether or not you system is capable of running the game or not
better to spend $4 to test the game & features for a month than get the full version
up front and not be able to run it.

You can get a free trial by buying the Steam version, try it out for two hours and if unhappy get a full refund. the Xmas sale on Steam also likely to start in the next few days which will probably see TANE discounted by 50%.

Far better than this paid "trialware" idea!

Pretty sure it would be impossible to evaluate properly a program like TANE in two hours given the wide range of stuff you can do with it and the differences to previous versions.

I think that Steam 2 hours thing is more for the "I can't get it to work" or "didn't bother to read the hardware requirements" brigade. ;)

I agree. I have done the please refund thing on Steam after I installed some real crap. One program was supposed to be a new release of an old one, which it was, however, there was no update in the graphics which still had a maximum resolution of 1024 x 768! Try to view that on a new LCD display.

Given the complexity of T:ANE and Trainz in general, a half-baked trial version or one that loses features in 30 days is not something that could go very far.

"Trail version of Tane"

Personally I think it a great idea. Almost try before you buy sort of thing & $4US isn't going to break most peoples bank.

It will allow people who are not sure whether or not they are into "Train Sims" to give it a go. If not, $4 bucks was a cheap price to find out. (It's also a way of giving fans of "other Train Sims" a cheap way of taking Trainz's for a spin. Who knows how many might be converted)...

I can't understand why the usual "knockers" knock N3V when they try and show some initiative and come up with different ways to get more people into Trainz & increase "their" sales. The more sales, the healthier N3V gets & the more money that could be put into the further development of Trainz. Everyone wins, including you!!!

John, not to sure where the "half-baked" comes into it. I thought it was a full "trial" version of Tane!!!

Cheers, Mac...

I know this is the full version to try for 4 bucks, but there are some trials with some things disabled and are usually the things that you really need to try. They have the usual message "This is only available in the full version" To use this feature, please go to whatever domain they have and visit the buy now page.

+1 with what meatloaf747 has written.

A month's trial with full excess to the standard edition at a cost of $4 is very good. Will give people the opportunity to really get their "teeth" into exploring T:ANE and it's features. It is explained very clearly at trainz portal https://store.trainzportal.com/prod...ion-trial?mc_cid=8a4fb6358d&mc_eid=a24fb8168a as to what is required. Like any business if N3V doesn't make money it will go under and we the customer/fans will no longer have future trainz to look forward too. :'(

Two hours should be more than enough to check it works adequately on your PC, couple of quick ten minute drives on the more frame hungry routes and a little dabble with Surveyor. However there wouldn't be much point starting a serious route build in Surveyor if you're going to hand it back at the end of the trial period! If you're that much into Trainz then just keep a lookout for the best price (N3V or Steam sale) and get the full version.

Still, Tony states he is pleased with the uptake and if people wish to indulge the concept of a paid trial, good luck to them. Not a system I see myself as bothering with in future, though.

There are some big assumptions in that statement - specifically that the trial users would be familiar enough with T:ANE to be able to determine which are the frame hungry routes to test their hardware on, and knew enough to get around in Surveyor to give that an adequate trial. The latter would probably be true for TS12 users who have not yet moved over to T:ANE but for anyone who has never tried Trainz (any version) or any train sim for that matter - two hours would be woefully inadequate.

I think it is a great idea.
