Trainz might be the suspect

Hope this is the right forum. If not, move it. However here's my story and wondering if it's ever happened to anyone else.

Now here's whats happening to me. I'm running my Gateway, with XP and only have TRS 04, 06 and 10 installed. Now down in the right hand bottom is the zoom level, in windows. So, lets say I'm in here and I'm scrolling down with the mouse wheel, to see different post's. In fact anywhere, ie Google etc, that I have to use the wheel.
Then out of nowhere, the zoom level will go crazy!! Now what I'm referring to is, as I try to scroll, the mouse wheel will suddenly zoom the whole page in and out, whichever way I turn the wheel. Example....if I turn the wheel counter clockwise, the screen will zoom down to 10%. If I turn the wheel the other way, it will zoom all the way in to 1000%.

Ok so far, this is not Trainz related right? Well let me explain more about it. Every so often, when I'm in surveyor (of any Trainz program) the compass will go crazy on me and just spin the whole layout in circles, instead of roaming like it should. Then I have to shut down the program, then shut down the computer and do a restart and run the c cleaner (which I never find anything it has to clean at a major point.
But before I do a restart, my Google and c cleaner icon are lit up in blue. And just for grits and giggles, I double click on c cleaner and google pops up and vice versa.
I know I know so what still does this have to do with Trainz? Hang on.
Around 6 mos ago, my Gateway crashed and had to be reprogramed, by the pc fixer upper. So in turn, I was wanting Trainz, while I waited. So I went along and installed TRS 04 on another pc, that always worked great. Never had a problem with it. Bought it brand new in 03. It just got too old. Anyway, approx. 1 day after I installed 04. That computer did the same thing with the zoom in and out, wheel deal. So just for a little test, I uninstalled 04, cleaned everything up and it ran just fine. I got online all over the place where I had to scroll and not a lick of zoom problems. Then I reinstalled 04 and it ran just fine for around 2 days. Then again, out of nowhere, it did it again.

Now back in the beginning of this year, I installed 2010 on my win-7 machine and as far as I recall, it done the same thing to that computer also. But only a couple of times. As of now (so far) that one is doing fine. (Knock on wood)

So in conclusion, here I sit with my XP doing the same thing:'( . Not always but when it starts to do this, it just won't quit. I've had to reboot several times to get it to stop. But the merry go round in surveyor, tells me it's doing it again. Oh and by the wayside. Sometimes the surveyor go round wiil stop if I just save as. But then it will crash. Now when this happens, I have to give it a cold boot. Then, when it boots back up, I have to do a restart again and run the cleaner. All in all it's driving me crazy and gets very frustrating!!!!!

Any suggestions from any of you computer whiz fellers? And again, has anyone ever had this problem after installing Trainz?

Sure would appriciate it. If I can't cure it, I fixen on buying another win-7 machine.

No other reports of Trainz causing anything like your problem. Has to be something else.
The symptoms you describe are usually associated with a bad or wrong mouse driver or a faulty mouse, often its a bad contact inside the mouse or wiring that cause this sort of problem.

You have tried a different mouse?

What else do you have installed that is the same on each PC? are you using non standard mouse drivers? if so get rid of them and use the microsoft standard ones.

Thanks Malc, I'll look into it. I have tried different mice. Right now, I'm using a cordless one. Never thought of the drivers. Thanks man. I'll let you know what the outcome is later on. Gotta get to bed now.

Hey Malc, I just found out something of great importance and probably was causing the problem. My mouse drivers were last updated back in 2001. I just done a recent update. So I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks again.

Hi,

I have had a similar experience, but in my case it was due to me trying to be smart and use an old 2 KVM port switch with a more modern 2 port KVM switch to control three computers with one mouse and keyboard.
On one of my machine I always had this problem, suddenly out of now where I got the symptoms as describe above in Trainz or elsewhere.

I finally invested in a 4 port KVM switch and that problem went away, now I just deal with loss of mouse from time to time on my newest computer, but that is due to only one PS/2 plug on MB and I used a PS/2 mouse/keyboard and KWM switch so I needed a converter from PS/2 to USB to make it work most of the time.
Found a solution there too, went back to my family, engage my brother, and will this weekend change MB and CPU and all that kind from a older computer and give this troublesome one to my husband...

He still run a Win2K P3 machine so... LOL

And no, he seems very little interested in Trainz, can you believe that? :p

I'd just like to point out, that this behaviour is exactly what you'd see if you're (accidentally) holding down the ctrl key while using the mouse wheel.

I have a similar glitch and, yes, Linda, you are right, it is the KVM switch. It doesn't happen often though.
