what made you like trains?

I remember as a little boy my grand parents lived in louisanna and we lived in new york this was in the early 1950's and the only way to travel was by train. I still remember the train ride it went to St. Louis first then recoupled for the trip south to La. if my memory is corect it was the old PPR and we always got a pullman burth ever sence then I found a love for trains I still remember the soot fron the locomotive :hehe: and you had to go fast when walking between the cars because of the grates between the cars. thats my story and Im sticking too it :D

I have had so many wonderful train experiences before... I wouldn't no where to begin!!

I have liked trains for as long as I can remember, and I don't even know why!!

My dad used to work for BR, so that was interesting, but I wasn't even born then.

Living in Queensland, I am fascinated by the range of trains we have here.

In 2001, I had the great honour of operating the hand brake on a QR 2000 class railmotor on the Famous Zig Zag railway. In 2003, I sat in the cab of the Cairns Tilt Train, I rode the XPT twice in 2003/2004 (over the new year period), I went to Townsville on the Cairns Tilt Train and back to Brisbane in 2007, and for the future, I am going on the Eurostar and possibly the Le Shuttle Trains...

But it all started I think around Thomas...

My friends all think I am crazy cause I just love Trains!!!

I love being at the level crossing when the Sunlander goes through, or at a station for freight or express trains, or any trains for that matter!

The first train I would have ridden on would've been a QR EMU from Sandgate..

And thats about all!!!

Hey everyone,

Well, I'd have to say my dad is who made me interested in trains (may he rest in peace). As far back as I can remember, I've always seemed to be fascinated with them. As a little kid, I can remember watching the Burlington Northern scream past my grandfather's house on the main line. My dad and I went on several railfanning trips, most notably to see the SP Daylight 4449. And, growing up my dad had a rather large HO scale layout in the garage that took up most of it. Anyways, enough rambling on :)

I'm in the "liked them for as long as I can remember, no idea why" camp. Nobody else in my family was interested, but I got my first model train on my third birthday and it's been downhill ever since.

I was about 2 and I woke up one morning and couldn't get back to sleep. My mom went and turned on the TV to keep me distracted so I didn't wake up my 3 month old sister. During the channel flipping she passed Thomas the Tank engine, I was immediatly hooked. (altough If I hadn't gotten hooked then, my grandfather would have gotten me into trains anywhey).

it's actually in my bloodlines, CORRECTIon my bloodlines are railines:) :D :p :hehe:
but it fills the void not having a gal, besides guitar, it keeps me outta trouble, so what if i get made fun of at school, they are a bunch of morons who think they are gansters. oh well their loss.

Back when Microsoft Flight Simulator 2 was in it's heyday, I had been wishing for a good train simulator with the graphics and physics of flightsim. I wrote Microsoft with that suggestion that a train simulator would be very popular with model train enthusiasts. I never heard from them but within a year, they came out with Microsoft Train Simulator. I'm not saying that I was key influence in it's creation, but it seems like too much of a coincidence to ignore.

my grandfather had model trains. he had a lot of model trains. they were O gauge lionel. he influenced me to like trains. and here is a secret:
i almost got my grandfather trainz classics! i talked me dad into it, but he said no. so i gave my grandfather the BVE (Boso View Express) trainsim.

What Made Me Like Trains?

The first Train I ever remembered was a subway train in Brooklyn, when I was 3-4. But the train-bug hit hard when my family moved to Yonkers,NY and my "playground" was a freight yard along the Hudson River, from that moment on I was hooked. (that was 45 years ago)

What made me like trains?

Wooden railway toys. When I was little I had a Brio layout but I was afraid of the trains until one day I tried them out. Then I discovered Thomas the tank and now I like trains a lot! I also go to Model Railway Shows.

The first time I had got interested in trains was when I was 7. I went to the train station for the first time. And all of a sudden a midland mainline class 43 in it's old livery came shooting past me. When it past. I said "...Wow... Now that was fast. I wonder if I could buy one of those". And my train interest escalated from there.

Thanks for asking.:D

Hmmmm..... I think it was either my grandma getting me a video when I was like 2 or 3, or the fact that my 1st house was right next to a NS mainline!!! :D And if course, Thomas helped too..... LOL!!! :p :hehe:

What made me love trains, really steam engines only was the smell of hot steel, burning coal, the feel of cold steam in the winter, the sound of the mornful whistle, to feel the heat coming off the engine, the awsome power it has. Nothing can beat the steam locomotive in my mind. It is the ultimint machine that there is, it may not be as effecieant as the diesel or a electric, but it is the symbol of power. The ET&WNC #12 was my 1st sight at a real locomoitve when I was the age of 3.

i like trains because

my brother used to be intrested in them but by the time i can remember he hated them.:D all the thomas stuff for me!!!!then i wactched the show every day and was upset if i missed it. Then it was real trains and model trains. i got my first hand-me-down model train set when i was seven. it consisted of a cp 4-8-0, and sevral cars. i never had the money for model trains so i got trainz.but this x-mas i got a cp gp40-2,and another set with a C liner! then this january i went railfanning for my first time at the big ol yard downtown. My train intrest went spiralling!i also wanted to model the US so i bought an amtrak p42 but insted of blue on top stripe it has black?and i bought 3 passenger and a bagage car.
