I actually got a new computer...again. Although I'm still a little mad, it is actually about 2-3x faster than the HP was.

It was disappointing what happened to the HP: I tried to turn it on one day, and nothing happened until I started smelling fried electronics. I then quickly unplugged the power and all the connections, looked inside, and sure enough, there were black spots dotted around the motherboard. I knew the computer was gone, but I kept the power supply (the Corsair one in my first post), the video card (the 512 MB Visiontek ATI 4850), and the sound card, the SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio. Out if the 3, the power supply was the only thing that worked (and still works). I guess that's what I get for buying the HP refurbished .

So, even though I lost out on about a $800 computer ($500 refurbished HP M8300F, $200 ATI 4850, $100 PSU), I saved up enough money, and with the sell of my Dell C521, I got enough to purchase my Gateway with a 22" matching monitor for about $1200 and bought the upgrades as I saved up the money. I would say that it was totally worth the trouble, as now I have perfect framerates on all but the most intense routes like Marias Pass.

Take care,
Kyle

dont buy computers from retail out lets

the best way to get a good computer is to build it yourself and if you dont know how to get a friend to do it for you and watch and learn,
the price of building it yourself is nearly 2 thirds cheaper than a shop for a much faster more relieble hardware, before you buy any parts for your computer always review that part on the internet and see how good it really is,there are computer markets all over the world run on weekens in all suburbs once or twice a month at a more affordable price and if you use you brain you can write it of on your taxes each year as i am in the flower industry so i claim it all on taxes,a computer you buy at a shop might cost around $2500.00 to $3500.00 for a alright one, compaired to one you built youself at a cost of $1500.00 to $1800.00 including lcd 22 inch.so think about it ,that price dosent include os in australia ,yes you can go and buy cheap second hand ones, but why do that its second hand because it was either no good or couldnt do the job it was asked to do {think about it}and always buy at lest 2 hardrives ,put os on one and all the stuff you want to keep on the other that way you will not lose it if you have to reformat,
just a few tips for new computer users
