What are you Trainz Must Haves?

SuperSpeedMaglev

Wonderfully Old Fashioned
I'll say mine first, I have a lot so I'll only say a few of them.

  • LNER A2
  • A hell load more LNER engines
  • Quite a few LMS stuff
  • The USATC(I think that's it) War Engine that came to Britain
  • Lot of GWR engines
  • The W1

And there's a short list of only a few of my must haves. I'm aware most of what I want is out there, but it's pay ware, I want freeware.

Now, let's hear yours. ;)

1. A model of Southern 2-8-0 #630
2. A model of Tennessee Valley (Railroad Museum) 2-8-0 #610
3. A good variety of Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum passenger cars, particularly the sleeper car Clover Colony, dining car Traveler's Fare, and observation car Eden Isle.
4. Tennessee Valley GP7L's #1824 & 1829
5. Tennessee Valley RSX-1 #8669 (Their (Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum's) website says 8669 is a RSD-1, but it's the export version of the RSD-1, the RSX-1, evidenced by the cabs sides angled inward for tighter loading gauges)
6. Southern 2-8-0 #154
All I can think of that has not been made for Trainz yet. But there may be some more.

I must have the PRR from Enola Yard, to Pitcairn Yard, and possibly all the way to Conway Yard

I must have the East Broad Top RR iPortaled to the PRR line in Mount Union PA

I must have the Buffalo line from Harrisburg PA to Williamsport PA, then SW to Tyrone PA

I must have the Petersburg PA to Hollidaysburg PA line to Tunnelhill PA

I must have the Wopsononock RR from Juniata PA to Dean PA

I must get a crack-a-lackin' on these !

SuperSpeedMaglev didn't CamScott make the A2 as payware?

I'm gonna be a wishful gimme pig here, without intending to be disrespectful to the outstanding content creators and fantastic stuff they produce...

I'd like to see a Transpennine Route - York to Man Picc or even further ideally. There are some awesome routes for the south west on Trainz but only really the S&C & ECML for the North/North East.

A WCML route at the standard of the ECML.

Plus...
I do think that the BR Standards are a big gap in Trainz content - specifically the Standard 4 4-6-0, and the Standard 5, 6 and 8.

BR Class 44/45/46 in BR blue condition... BR Mk2a/b/c with interiors... BR MK3 DVT to match the loco-hauled MK3s recently released.

A Class 91 in BR Intercity colours and a full EC MKIV set.

BR Class 155 in WY Metro colours!

I would like to see a passenger enabled HST set, and all the MK3 coaches light up in the dark, now that would be superb... DROOOOL

BR Standards certainly
LNER P1 and P2, V!, V3, V4
LMS 4-6-0 classes - Jubilee, Scot, Patriot, as built and rebuilds
Scotland - NBR and Caley locos, coaches, goods stock to begin with, Highland, GNoSR, GSWR also if possible
Wemyss Private Railway locos & stock, just because it's local for me
A WD 2-10-0
Metropolitan Railway steam locos and stock, including the Pullmans
Beyond the UK, I'm a huge fan of narrow gauge, quirky trams, and the magnificent Pennsylvania Railroad

Cheers
Richard

Must have as in already available, or another wish list?

There's only one "must have" for the budding route builder and that's Transdem. End of!

I would like to see a multiple player which lets you interact not just with trains, but the other vehicles, too. Buses, trucks, boats, planes, even bridges and office buildings. Maybe just walking down the street. Have bodies you can make to see each other, like the engineers you see in the cabs, people waiting at the stations, etc.

Existing British routes reworked

They'd be good but .... the S&C could be reworked to improve the scenery; and perhaps some better looking track with additional detail alongside it. I'm thinking better speed trees, some animated figures, better trackside grass and textures, more detail and better textures in the wider landscapes, perhaps some better roads. Perhaps there could be a few additions, like the line to Carnforth or some of the old line from Darlington to Tebay that passes under the S&C?

There are quite a few very good UK routes that could benefit from such treatment - to the standard of Gwladys Ddu or Ashburton to Windrush. In fact I like to "upgrade" such routes myself, as I'm sure many others do too, for personal use. But what it needs is the original author to perform the tweaks, not least because they will get the detail right. :-)

Yes, shameless gimme-piggin'!

The S&C is still of a far higher standard than many routes on the DLS - I don't want to name and shame because it's disrespectful to the creators but some are really quite poor. Ashburton & Windrush set a standard but even a short line like that, with full sceneary, causes lagging on my usually smooth mac. To rebuild the S&C to that standard would destroy most computers.

It's an old problem - that better quality software demands better quality hardware. Does this mean that no one should ever make better software?

In Trainz there's always he option of staying with a previous iteration of something. For example, I ran TS10 for a long while after TS12 was available, although I've moved to TS12 now. I'm currently at build 49922 because even today I'm wary of the mess that may ensue should I go to a higher build. This inevitably means that some new routes and assets can't be loaded into my version of TS12. But should the creators stick to version 3.6 just to please me? Hardly.

With T:ANE (possibly) just over two months away, I suspect most route builders are waiting to see the potential for refurbishment on the "new" platform, rather than in TS12. My West Highland route was mentioned in another thread, but rather than touch it up in TS12 I feel there'll be enough UK resources in T:ANE to give it a go in that - with the added benefit of better looking track (points/crossings) and hopefully some means of retro applying superelevation to curved sections. There's also the issue over Speedtrees, discussed at length elsewhere, that T:ANE is using next-gen Speedtree tech and the existing ones don't work, unless upgraded. That's not stopping me working on a new route in TS12 (minus any form of Speedtree) but that can hopefully also be ported across to T:ANE to finish.
