This member does make some sense. Just before Christmas I began getting odd things happening in 2004 that I couldn't understand, and also in other areas of my PC. Not big problems, just niggles. Then, immediately prior to Christmas my PC suddenly shut down right in the middle of a lot of work in Trainz. No warnings at all, apart from the niggles that is.
I thought I had lost 2.5 Gig of data, it turns out that was nearer 5Gig! So back up, pronto, whatever is happening might be disastrous. It might not be of course, but I just wish I had backed up and then I would have had to spent the last two weeks searching for assets - and I still haven't found them all...!!
Was your Virus program turned off? An easy thing to forget in the excitement of a new program.
And I would advise getting as much RAM as possible, Trainz is graphics hungry. I use 4Gig. Also some on your graphics card will help, again as much as possible. The card should be near the high end if you want to run large and complex routes, otherwise the PC will keep locking solid.
I know it is easy to blame whatever you have just installed but the fact is that I know several folk who have put this on their machines first time with no problems at all and it works perfectly. Yes, each version of Trainz has its faults and each version has had patches to cure them, but as 2010 is installing fine elsewhere then the problem has to be on the machine it went on to. Elementary my dear Watson!
Take a step back, a deep breath and listen to the folk on here. They are a wonderful bunch and willing help.

Tell me, have they ever gotten everything worked out with any version? Or do they just go to a new set of problems and drop the previous issues all togeather!...all the issues will have been worked out....

I am fairly new to trainz having given up on train simulation after buying rail simulator and being very disappointed. However, after a few months I decided to give TC3 a try and started developing a re-creation of the old North Devon branch lines with that. I have been very satisfied with TC3 and have spent about three months working on my route.
My wife decided to buy me 2010 as a Christmas present so I was left with the decision to either start afresh with the North Devon route or try to transfer it into 2010. I decided to try and import it into the new simulator. So I just exported it as a CDP file not really expecting any results. surprisingly It worked fine, only a few assets showed up as faulty one being a hedge spline that I had used a lot in TC3.I could not seem to correct the fault so I have patiently spent a few days replacing the spline throughout the route and with those changes it will now run in native mode (great).
I was a great enthusiast and still am of TC3 but I have to say 2010 is a great simulator. The graphics are far superior it runs much smoother (at least on my machine) and for a new launch program seems very stable with very few bugs (if any that I have found). So for me well done Auran and keep up the good work you certainly seem to be achieving far higher results than any of your competitors.
It has already been said on this posting that patience is a virtue and not everything will work first time. My suggestion would be to control the frustration and work your way through it systematically, it will come out. By the way I am hoping to be able to put my North Down branch lines on the CDP in a couple of weeks, it will be my first upload.

May I say, your comments are like a breath of fresh air.
After reading about others carping on about TS2010, I find nothing wrong with it, at this stage.
It's a dam sight better than the others, when they first launched.
They all tend to be like newly launched ships, with all the super structure in place, but still need some fine tuning, and I would say this is the most complete one they've done yet!
Personally I have found that I can transfer all my old routes across with no problems, just the odd kuid fix here and there, that’s all.
After reading all the winging on the forum, some times you feel like slitting your wrists, or something, when most of the time the fault is not the simulator but the users fault.

I entirely agree with your comments, the problem seems to be that many people expect instant perfection in everything with no effort on their part whatsoever. I retired this year or should I say semi retired (my former employer still keeps ringing up asking if I can do this or that) but one thing I did learn in my 35 years in the road transport industry was patience especially when I was an HGV driver.
People can write all the schedules and delivery times they like but it is very often in that industry that you will not arrive at times they expected sometimes not even on the day they expected. I bet with the weather we've had in Britain this week that delivery times have not been met by a very long way perhaps not in the right week let alone day. I learned in those sort of traffic conditions all you could do was be patient and take everything as it comes, you will eventually get there. As I said something that many people seem to find impossible these days.
My only problem with your comparison between 2010 and the fine-tuning of ships would be, where they not fine-tuning the Titanic on the night of the disaster. Remember the famous comment by Captain Smith in the film. Fine evening, flat calm, wonderful ship, Lets stretch her legs. Let's hope Auran does not go the same way or we would all lose a great hobby.

I run Trainz (Trainz, 2004, 2006 and 2009) on a computer connected to the Internet via a proxy server. (Why, you ask - no firewall(s) no virus scanner(s); they aren't needed. They are located on the proxy server.
My problem: 2010 won't/can't find my Auran profile (it is indeed there and complete) and hence my User ID: 154025 is not available in CM 3.2. Result: anything I save is stored as <kuid:-2:1nnn> instead of <kuid:154025:nnnn>
Both 2006 and 2009 have no difficulties with my UserId.
So: SHOWSTOPPER! 2010 is poised at the edge of the bin/trash/dumpster or whatever you call it in your part of the world :'( I cannot use 2010 without my Userid.

My feeling is that the first thing you have to do is to accept that there are now many thousands of us who have installed and run 2010 without any problems, therefore your problem must lay within the computer and system that you are using. I would not pretend to know much about proxy servers but it would seem to be an "unusual setup" to say the least. However if it has worked before I think I would try the following.
Completely uninstall 2010 from the server. If it won't uninstall in the normal way just move the 2010 folder to the bin. (But make sure you backup your whole system before you do this). Use a registry cleaner to remove all traces of the program from the computer and server if that is necessary. Reinstall 2010 but this time do not try to move any of your old routes into the new simulator until you have tested it with a number of the routes that are preinstalled in the program.
If you find after doing all the above that the program will not run or crashes, just remember it's not the end of the world. Go and have a cup of coffee or a beer or something like that, wind-down and come back sometime later in a fresh frame of mind and have another go.
As said if the program is still not working I think I would do away with the proxy server and install 2010 directly on your own computer. There are plenty of cheap or even free antivirus programs out there and if you are using Windows XP or Vista the firewall comes built-in. I would then repeat paragraph two of this thread and my feeling would be that it would be much easier to then sort out any problems directly on your computer although I would think that the installation should go well then as many of us have found.
If it does I would then start to transfer your old route gradually, by this I mean select some of the assets from your local folder, transferre them to 2010, rebuild the database and if all is well repeat the process until everything is transferred. Then try running the transferred route. If the whole thing crashes I would then repeat paragraph 3 above but this time having a couple of beers before coming back.
Remember, the bug has to lay somewhere in your computer or system. Think it through, take regular breaks from the problem, stay relaxed. It will come right, the answer is there somewhere and thinking logically and calmly will find it quicker and with far less stress. Doubtless there will be many others on this forum with much more expertise than me who will be only too glad to help if you approach the problem in the above manner.

Got a answer to my problem yesterday. I was getting a error:setup files corupted, get new program. Well mine is in the mail as we speak so I can't complain. Wasn't really complaining to begin with because sometimes things go wrong and nobody is at fault. I'm ok with the way AURAN has handled it.While I haven't used them, CMP does have settings for use with a proxy server. Have you tried changing those?

I was about to write a final comment. However, after reading so many supporting messages as well as some criticism which I really appreciate both, I decided to give it another try. With such a wonderful people around here I can't run away from my beloved trains.
