Western Pacific Steam, oil fired

Hi fellow Trainzers,

My prefered railroad is the Western Pacific in California. Until recently there were a few diesels and no steam. Within the last year a few locos were reskined for WP but were coal fired. WP used coal but not in California. There is very little in US oil tenders to choose from except for the Vanderbuilts which WP didn't have. WP didn't put the railroad name on the locos, only on the tender, ussualy the square logo.
Now there are two WP oil tenders that I know of. Snipier was nice enough to put the logo on a medium sized oil tender with six wheel trucks. A small WP oil tender with four wheel trucks comes with the "WP 94" 4-6-0 from Steam Train Workz with the older style "Western Pacific" spelled on it's sides instead of the logo. I hope some one will replace the text with the square logo but I will make do with the text version.
I have put these tenders with locos of the types use by WP to give me ten oil fired locos to choose from. They are listed below. most if not all of these locos come in several versions and those I have initially chosen may not be the best choice but they work for me. I think all are on the DLS except WP 94.
WP 4-6-0 #94 was like the "Baldwin 4-6-0M" most of it's life but in ~1954 it was restored to it's "original configuration" and paint for use in promotions and such.
Now if some one would remove the skirts from the black SP 4-8-4 "daylight" and paint it as the WP Class 481 GS-64-77 with an apropriate tender the world we be a better place.

2-8-0 "Baldwin medium 2-8-0M" with small tender. #21 is OK. Remove letters

I have added one more WP oil fired loco to my roster. WP 124, A C-23 built in 1882 by Baldwin for the Boca & Loyalton RR.
I know that she was still in use and looking good in June of 1941. I intend to renumber her to 124 once I learn how.
Actually she is on the DLS as "Generic 2-8-0 Compound-SG". I used the small WP oil tender.

I am still learning... I like Western Pacific, too. Could you possibly steer me in the right direction? I have Trainz 2012. Is any Western Pacific steam available/compatible with this version? Also, interested diesels, looks like the G.E. unit and bigger EMD unit do not work in 2012 version.

Paul

More WP steam, oil burning:

WP Challenger. (Actually UP Challenger with a mid sized WP oil tender) Should be numbered 401-407.

I do know the GS-4s are Lilb's but a WP GS-4 would really be a sight in Trainz. Awesome work so far, that 2-8-2 is my favorite. Looks just right with that WP oil tender on it.

Hi Paul,

There are some reworked coal burning steam locos that may be on the DLS, not sure. I have them but, in my opinion, they are too dark and I need oil burners as I model WP in California and WP steam in California only burned oil.
The oil burning #94 may be on the DLS. Probably the "Western Pacific 4-8-2 Mountain Type" also.
As for using TS2012, yeah, lotsa luck. I use TS2009 sp3 in compatibility mode. I have made (painted) me some WP GP35s F7s and SW in paint shop but getting them to work in TS2012, if posible, may be more trouble than it is worth.

Hi haddock56,

Yeah, the 2-8-2 Mikados look great except almost all WP "Mikes" had brow mounted feedwater heaters. :(

So that's what that cylindrical-shaped thing is; I know a lot of Canadian engines have that feature. It makes them look pretty neat. You do provide a lot of inspiration though.

There is a very nice Canadian Mike with a feed water heater that comes with Trainz, at least TS2009. As I see it, the only problem in making it WP is the inclosed cab.
I would LOVE for someone to make an open cab version, preferably painted WP.:udrool:

Would this be helpful?

Would an oil-bunker that could be added to Ben Neal's short and long USRA tenders (as an attachment) be useful to you folks that run oil-burners?

I made the basic mock-up in a few minutes in Gmax, shown below:

oil-bunker-conversion-attachment.jpg

which is based on the oil-bunker conversion kits used in the RR modeling world, like this one:

Very interesting. Did WP do something like that in full scale?
I trust you would have to be a Trainz "creater" to make use of it.
