WCL2 (S2) Complete

I have just sent the second section of the WCL series up to Auran. Upload was successful (it said).

File size will be around 20.515Mb. The route length is 55 miles real scale. Starts just before Aldermaston and end well after Westbury.

This section butts perfectly with WCL1 (Paddington to Reading, actually runs to past Theale and almost to Aldermaston Dock). I have merged these sections to check they do work together.
WCL1 is about 44 miles long Real Scale so with the 55 miles of the second part you will have nearly 100 miles to go blazing along.
There are no overheads, but you can add those if you wish. By leaving them off it opens the route to a wider time period.

More details of West Coast Line (Section 2) Complete.

Remember to set the ATLS assets at mocrossings along the route and numbered in sequence. There are seven crossings.
You may find it necessary to reset the track purple value markers, there are some at Newbury and more at the sidings sets along the route.
You may also wish to place 'aim' markers (red markers) at the ends of the route so you have somewhere to run to for a full length journey, that is how I test it.
There will be a need to go get assets from outside sites, some are listed below :-

http://www.batram.wbl.sk/Download_mapy.html
For 36713:37300, 37301

http://www.trainz.org/ptt/_download/oto ... opack.html
For Niffi assets

http://www.greenery.name/mstsg/mstsgd.htm?trainz,2
For greenery downloads

http://www.trainz.hu/?
For FMA and various other Hungarian content. Needs a login.

If you wish to have the TrainzObjects file of the scan I can send that as an attachment to an e-mail if it will help, but it is quite easy to do your own scan and better, because it will show you if you have any missing assets on your PC.

DEMs

Well done Angela !! Do you still have the Transdem map I did for you, covering section 3 !!!? John.

Dear John,
Yes, I do still have all the maps you kindly produced and sent, many hours of work by you on my behalf, and I thank you for that.

If I get stuck I will call (loudly), but at the moment I am taking a break.
I noticed that the start of the next section begins with Frome town so I am not looking forward to that much, but it is there so will need doing.

Bless you,

Angela

Looking forward to running around on your new route Angelah. As always I am sure it is top notch as your other routes (which I have installed and enjoy alot)

Thanks for sharing and looking forward to many more great routes from you Angelah.

Cheers

Trent

Dear Angela,

Thank you.

Just finished downloading into 2010 (no, it's not visible in CM3.2 - yet) I'll have a look at the route later today.

(the 2004 DLS page does show the route, so I can use ftp download)

Interestingly, there were no missing assets - all seemed ot be on the dls.

Hello Colin,
There are assets that are not on the DS and I have listed the sites I can remember in a post above. You may have already got them of course and that is why they show okay.
I do try to use an many DS assets as possible and quite a lot of built-in content because that, I believe, is common to 06 and 10.
I have people who have got it into 2010 so it should be fine.

Have fun. It will take about an hour to run end-to-end, oh, maybe a bit less, it depends on what hauling power you use.

Hi Angela,

I have checked my copy of the WCML PT.3 DEM map and I see that the track laying has still to be done. I think I rushed the dem off to you when my wife was critically ill and we thought I might not be able to continue with Trainz.

Anyway, if you can wait a while till I reinstall TS2004 I will gladly finish this for you,
best wishes, John.

Dear John,
Don't worry, I have now completed the track right through so you have no need to reinstall 04. I knew your situation and accepted that it would be my job this time.
But thanks you for such a kind offer, it brings back memories of the old forum. Sadly it seems to have changed a lot now. There still some of the old crowd here but somehow a lot of the comaraderie isn't here.

Bless you,

Angela

Hi Angela.Have just downloaded WCL 1 and 2,to 2010.....and have no problem, just had to open Trainz from the CM and then go back to CMP and click on "Open in surveyor".I am having trouble though trying to merge them together,so any help in that regard would be welcome. It might just be my imagination but they seem to run smoother in 2010.Another thing I didn't realise is that the 4 track line is Down/Up/Down /Up...I always had it ,Down/Down/Up/Up...I can see that yours makes it easier with regard to multi platform terminnuses.and it make sense.
Having traveled the route many times in the Steam era.it is quite a remarkable achievement.to see it portrayed so accurately, and I must say you have a great deal more patience then most of us...Hope you eyes are getting better being 80 (Me that is)know how you feel...Regards Leonard

Ups and Downs

Hello Len,
Like you I assumed it was both downs and both up next to each other, but then I am far from being a railway buff. It made more sense to me too.
I have merged them so it does work, but it took a couple of attempts.
From memory (and it's a bit shaky lately) I studied the ends of each section carefully to work out where things were because it didn't go together quite how I thought it would. If it helps put a big black texture at the top of the second one near a name, off the actual scenery I mean, there is some area behind the backscene. Make a note of the place name near it. Then go to the other map and try to work out where it is. It will be helpful if you have Google Earth and can take a snap of the area where they join so you can see both bits at the same time.
Can you scan in when merging, I can't remember. If so then I suggest getting the ends almost together and then getting close so you can see where the tracks abd roads are, that way it might help alignment.

Just keep plugging away but save both out as a different name first in case you mess them up, then you can always go back to the original.

Angela

Thanks Angela...for the quick reply, will do as you suggest, and keep plugging away..maybe send me some of your patience !!..will let you know how it goes ''Leonard

Hello Angela... glad you've finished WCL2, quite a feat for the 2 parts and another to come. I will be downloading next week probably, very sore right now from falling down stairs... not all the way but far enough!

Got an excuse, I was 76 last month.

Best wishes

Dear Eric,
Do please be careful. Us 'oldies' can't go knocking ourselves about too much, our old bodies do not take kindly too it. I only have to bump into a doorpost (which I often do!) to get a whopping bruise come up.

Good luck with the download, I hope it goes well. Post if you have any problems.
Oh, remember you will need the HOG (Hand Of God) texture files too but for the life of me I cannot remember where to get them from. Maybe some kind soul here will help out with a link.

Yes, already working on the next section but having problems with track/ground heights. The thing with a DEM is that heights tend to get over compensated near water for some odd reason and that upsets the apple cart, so it is taking some time to sort out elevations.

Bless you,

Angela

Yes stairs are a big problem and risk to life for anyone over 60. I often have problems with balance, so must take care.

Often people will move to one story houses to aleviate problem

Take care all

Sorry to hear about your fall.....Hope for a quick recovery.....I have been trying to merge the two routes, get every thing lined up,and then get the message about layers? having the same name.begining to think they wont merge in 2010..Would like to hear from anyone who has done it.Regards Leonard.

Hi Angela
Have merged them both in 04 and have assumed that they butt against each other as ive not noticed any overlap of the two sections. Got a deep valley between them and the water had a problem matching up but it now seems to be OK after a little tweaking. Not had time to run it yet, to busy.
